Lumen print process. Excited to try different tinting ways. :) Turning nature into art.
what’s cool about this process and sad is that within time it disappears... just like leaves and flowers, it decays/disappears within time.

So happy that I tried out 3 different print medias this summer hehe

Distorted Memories

My father who was my best friend and favourite parent growing up (sorry mom) passed away 2015.

In the beginning, the memories of my dad were very strong and clear but as the years passed by I am starting to forget those memories. Those memories that I cherished with the presence of my father. Now I can’t perfectly imagine him, I can just imagine pieces of him. Which is weird since I am a visual person but my auditory (echoic) memory of him are stronger. I can clearly hear his voice ringing in my ear, his laugh, his sneeze as well as his scent but for some reason It is hard for me to make a visual memory of his face and his whole physical body. I can just imagine his side angles, but when I do imagine his whole appearance, it feels distorted, vague or illustrated like a cartoon.

Sadly, You can’t depend on your memory, we have to remember our memories are not always necessarily true like dreams and daydreams.…. Sometimes we only remember parts of a memory (basically a portion of a story) and we are sometimes are not sure even when a specific memory actually happened. memories are not evidence. In a way memories are a biased perception.

sadly with my Dad, all I can depend on are memories. My dad didn’t like taking pictures, I don’t have voice messages of him, so I don’t have anything to hold onto. All I have are the pictures of him and I when I was a kid and pictures of him and I when he was sick during his last days.

My memories feels broken. As time goes by, I find it hard to remember my memories of my dad.

Those cyanotypes represent those feelings. Those broken and distorted memories of mine which will fully be lost in time.

The Void , an experimental surrealist short film and installation about a person who receives a painting that begins to haunt them.
Inspired by surrealist cinema and the strange logic of dreams, this project explores fears of loss, identity, and belonging. Through stop motion, distorted imagery, and uncanny everyday objects, the film moves between the familiar and the unsettling.

In the installation, the short film was projected onto mirrors and as well as directly onto the wall, with the mirrors reflecting and fragmenting the imagery across the space, symbolizing the fragmentation of the dreamlike state and the concept of belonging.

Documented by Nelly at the 2024 IMCA final show. @nellyblanken

You can watch the film tonight at Cinéma au Cinoche @cinemacinoche, sadly without the mirror installation this time! 🖤 by @angelicminds
