One of my favorite moments from my mother’s art retrospective was when this song came on the playlist I’d made for her, and I caught the eye of my friend and tarot client Susan, and we were both singing along…

I found myself singing it for the next few days, and it just felt very poignant and perfect — especially when I saw all the video clips of precious moments with so many wonderful friends and family who came through the show the weekend of 8/8.

It was such a powerful culmination — of healing, of grieving, and of community coming together to honor that process, and my mother Maggie’s life and work.

Very grateful to Melody Murphy / @tinysherpa for having such an amazing eye, and capturing these sunlit moments in time: my elders, cousins, their babies, and so many beloved folks from all chapters of my life…

A magical moment while closing up the gallery last night after Raphael Umscheid’s FATHOM opening. Angeliska walked in, and the lovely Bente saw that we simply had to get photos of Angeliska in front of this painting. It would have been tragic if we hadn’t because look at these pics!!! 😻 (I have dozens of pics to share from Angeliska’s exhibition of her mom Maggie’s work last weekend- stay tuned!) Bente, thank you for your presence at BFG- we missed you when you were in Norway ❤️ taken in Blackfeather Vintage Works by @angeliska

There’s just a short time left to get your copy of my mother, Maggie Cook Polacheck’s haunting portrait of Hank Williams, “No Room in My Heart for the Blues”.

Get yours through the link in my bio, or right here: https://bit.ly/double-eternity

The Ramblin’ Man had Maggie’s heart, and her love letter to his lonesome soul was her magnum opus.

You can pledge to receive a vintage prints of this powerful image that was made over 40 years ago, before my mama died — tragically young, like her hero Hank.

These were never available before now, which is a story of its own.

You can now receive your own copy of this achingly beautiful painting and support this powerful closure of the circle.

It strikes me as deeply poetic and heartening that these prints that were left behind from my mom’s presence here on earth, and can now help fund the fruit of my decades of writing and healing.

And it means a lot that they can finally be shared with people who will appreciate her talent and artistry.

You can support the restoration of Maggie’s artwork, her memorial exhibition, my memoir about losing her, and the completion of her Hank collages by acquiring one of these prints, through my Kickstarter.

Thank you for supporting this work of healing and honoring.

There is so much magnificent revival and tribute fostered in a Retrospective endeavor and Angel made sure that every possible facet and fragment of Maggie's beautiful visions & mind was available to the world at hand. She is a Torchbearer of this Magic!

Curating the Double Eternity art retrospective, on the 40th anniversary of my mother, Maggie Cook Polacheck’s death, was one of the biggest things I’ve ever accomplished in my life — both logistically and emotionally.

It was so much work, so much fun, so profound, and I have never been more proud of anything I’ve ever done — this exhibition and gathering were pure magic.

There is no way I could have pulled it off without massive amounts of support and love from my community, and I am forever grateful for everyone and everything coming together to make it happen so seamlessly.

Maggie’s retrospective was like opening a time capsule at an Irish wake, with an old time string band playing.

Old timers sipped spritzes and tapped their feet in time to the banjo, and babies danced in the arms of adoring aunties.

It was sitting shiva for three days, with a glimmering mixture of laughter and tears, wonder and delight — the flowers of grief placed on an altar of love.

Flashes of heartfelt conversations have been replaying in my mind ever since — with countless sweet and moving moments, joy and tear-filled eyes, happy surprises, and so many people coming out of all the nooks and crannies of Austin (and beyond!) to be present for me and for Maggie, and to see her body of work in its full expression.

We had a beautiful turnout for all three days (plus all the magic of installing the show, and taking it down), with an incredible convergence of beautiful people coming through Blackfeather Gallery and Vintage / @blackfeathervintageworks

Folks came out from as far afield as Santa Fe, El Paso, Waco, Stephenville, San Marcos, Pontotoc, San Antonio, and Maggie’s hometown of Llano and Lone Grove for the experience!

It was a very multi-generational gathering, with many elders (including all of Maggie’s 3 siblings — my uncles and aunt, and their children and grandchildren!) and so many adorable babies and kiddos, plus lots of doggies and one special kitty — which I know would have made my mom (a big-time animal lover) very pleased.

Deep gratitude to everyone who came out to the Double Eternity: A Maggie Cook Polacheck Retrospective preview and @angeliska ‘s book reading last night.

Today, 8/8, is the 40 year anniversary of Angeliska’s mother Maggie’s passing.

This retrospective exhibition is the first time all of Maggie’s paintings, collages and journals have been in one place.

Maggie was a painter, collage artist, silversmith, and musician in Austin’s hippie heyday.

Maggie was obsessed with Hank Williams, Black cowboys (like Nat Love and Bill Pickett), the intersection of psychedelia with the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts movements at the turn of the century, and the country and western music scene at the Grand Ole Opry.

This is an EXQUISITELY BEAUTIFUL and evocative collection. Join us in the gallery today and tomorrow from 12-9. Music by @austinfriendstm this evening. Thank you to the drink sponsors @epochcoffee @aceofcupswellness @stargazerbar @rambleraustin @ummajuice
And thank you to the incredible install team- @justin.wilson @souljunkieforamerica and @artofjeanpierre and @efeasterly for helping making this entire event happen ✨🙏🏻✨ taken in Blackfeather Vintage Works by @angeliska

If you haven’t pledged to pre-order my very first book, and some of my mother’s marvelous artwork yet, but have been meaning and wanting to… Well — now is the time!

We have only a handful of days left to raise $4000 to meet our final goal, y’all!

Aaaand as often happens with these fundraising endeavors, after the initial excitement has happened, people move on to the next thing, or don’t understand why I’m still banging this drum!

So, lemme explain what I’m trying to do here…

We created the exhibition of my mother’s artwork on the weekend of 8/8, and it was an incredible triumph! With the generous support of my community, I was able to honor my mama, Maggie Cook Polacheck, and hold the retrospective for her that she deserved, but never got to have, while she was alive.

The next phase of this project will be restoring and reproducing her artwork, and beginning the completion of the collage series she left unfinished before her death.

It will also help me cover all the unexpected costs for the show that came out of my (rapidly dwindling) checking account — including compensating volunteers for long sweaty hours of work, and all our other expenses: printing, restoration, collage materials, project labor, and fulfillment.

Our final goal is $25,000. Your pledge supports a big dream being realized, and it’s going to require the WHOLE village showing up to make it happen!

My mom’s art retrospective was just the beginning — and I still need your help to complete what comes next! And you get to have cool stuff, for helping me do this very big thing!

I’m not asking for charity or donations here — I genuinely want you to receive my memoir, and prints of Maggie’s art, which you can get on stickers, shirts, totes, postcards, as tattoos, and more! These rewards are cool AF, and I’m really proud of them! I want to mail them out to YOU!

It would mean a lot to me if you supported me in this, friends. This is the biggest thing I’ve ever done, and I want to close it out with a bang, and shout of glory! Soooo please go peruse the prizes, and pick one or some RIGHT HERE: https://bit.ly/double-eternity

So much more magic to relive (& for everyone who couldn’t be there to see Double Eternity in person!)

But here’s a bit of psychedelic delight from within my mother’s ultra-trippy genius dodecahedron collage sculpture!

Immense gratitude for Melody Murphy / @tinysherpa for capturing this video (& ALLLLLLL) the magic & to MJ from Northrop’s Furniture Shop / @northropsfurnitureshop for the absolutely stellar restoration work on both Maggie’s marvelous sculptures! by @angeliska

So much of who I am and what I do in the world comes from my mother: being a tarot reader, making jewelry, art, and collages… It’s all because of the person that Maggie was, and what she taught me to value.

This is my true inheritance from her, and I’m honoring those gifts with my writing (my memoir, Double Eternity, is available via my Kickstarter, & you can get prints of her artwork (& shirts/totes/stickers!) there as well! Please come see her work this weekend — it will be the ONLY time all of her pieces will be shown in one place!

Her art retrospective is at Blackfeather Gallery /@bfg.austiin 8/8 + 8/9— 12-9pm with a special preview & reading from my memoir on 8/7 from 6-9pm

It is very healing for me to be witnessed in this ritual of grief, & for the people in my life to understand what I, and the world lost, when my mom Maggie died — 40 years ago this August 8th.

I hope to see you there — and if you can’t make it in person, please support the Kickstarter that is making this all possible! Double Eternity: Memoir & Retrospective Art Show

You can help support the completion of Maggie’s unfinished Hank collages, the exhibition to honor her memory, and the book that is an enormous part of my healing journey by coming to see her art at Blackfeather Gallery on 8/8 & 8/9 (the ONLY opportunity to see all of her work in one place!)

Please help spread the word, tell your friends, pledge to the Kickstarter to get my book, and Maggie’s art on postcards, prints, shirts, totes, stickers, and tattoos! The more money we can raise, the farther we can get on this massive, multifaceted project — and the more people can be supported in making it all happen!

We really do need you to come see Maggie’s magic, and to take some of it (and mine!) home with you (when it’s all ready to be mailed out!) It truly is so special, and it means so much to get to share it all with my community!

Today (Sunday, 8/9) is the LAST day to see all eight collages, along with her watercolor portrait of John Keats, in her retrospective at Blackfeather Gallery (@bfg.austin).

You can support the Kickstarter making this exhibition (and so much more!) possible by pledging for prints here: https://bit.ly/double-eternity

That my mother Maggie was creating me while making these works, and that I spent hours staring at them as a young child in her studio, truly explains so much about the person and artist I came to be.

These pieces informed everything I find sacred: moths, moons, maidens, and more…They are utterly luminous, incandescent, transcendent. Please come see them in person, if you can. I promise you will not regret it!

I had not seen them for 40 years, but have been blessedly reunited with them through my godmother, Sarah Houston Green, for this exhibition.

The originals require meticulous restoration, but we are reproducing them for the first time so they can be shared with the world.

One of our big stretch goal is to have them professionally restored by a conservator, so if you have recommendations in Austin, please let me know!

You can get a pack of 5x7 art cards featuring all eight of these glorious paeans to magic and mystery.

Each print comes to a little more than $9, and only a lucky handful of people have pledged for the set so far, so… what are you waiting for?

I imagined this would be one of our most popular rewards, and I suspect that’s because people haven’t yet had the chance to take in how exquisite and special these works are.

They’re even better in person. I hope you can come see them IRL — but if you can’t, please support this heartfelt and poignant endeavor to honor my mother’s life and work, via our Kickstarter campaign! by @angeliska
