My first week as Executive Assistant at NileCorp Legal has been a very busy one, filled with protecting NileCorp from wrongful lawsuits (indisposition ISNT real), fighting back against the evil @coalition_nilecorp, and dealing with the appearance of a rat in our NileOffice (turns out the rat is friendly so we’ll let her stick around). I was however rewarded for my hard work with both a copy of the second employee handbook and a very confidential document known as The Strangeloom Holiday Party 👀

Despite the lack of health insurance and the constant attacks from spies, I can confidently say this is the best job I have ever worked in, surrounded by the best coworkers I could ask for. My loyalty to our Branch Head @thechloegong has been unwavering since 2024, proved by my extensive collection of her manuals and other items. Newest additions to the collection include the Coldwire ARC I won at last year’s employee trivia night and the Immortal Longings ARC I was so generously gifted by our Branch Director 🩷🩷

I am proud to announce that I have accepted a new position as Executive Assistant in NileCorp’s Legal Department! As you all know, NileCorp is one of the most law-abiding corporations out there, and I will now be helping to make sure of that. I am incredibly excited to be working under my Executive Lead @minnowslibrary, Branch Director @theseviolentdelightss, and the one and only Branch Head @thechloegong. We anticipate that this will be a very productive and efficient quarter for the company, with such a dedicated team working to make it happen.

The Hardest Ones To Fool ARC review 💋🩸

Thank you so much to @penguinteenca for sending me this ARC! I’ve always admired Christina Li and wanted to read her books, so I was overjoyed when I saw this in the mail 💙

The Hardest Ones To Fool is a murder mystery following Amelia Wu, who is dating 3 boys at the same time, and suspects one of them is involved with the death of her best friend. Amelia teams up with her academic rival Jackie to get to the bottom of it, while desperately trying to prevent all her lies from falling apart.

This book is tense, fast-paced, and keeps readers on their toes. Instead of a traditional murder mystery where the main character is working to untangle a web of secrets, Amelia is working to keep her own web of secrets from falling apart. This had me going from feeling one way to feeling the completely opposite in a matter of pages, especially when it came to the plot twist.

I loved the character Jackie. Her personality felt so real and I think lots of readers would relate to her. I want to pluck her out of this book and save her from every other toxic character in it.

Which brings me to the main thing that negatively impacted this read for me: I absolutely hated the main character. Amelia Wu is a textbook pathological liar, messing with other people’s lives for sport. There were a couple of times I thought maybe she could be redeemed, but I was proved wrong very, very quickly. Sure, she had some redeemable traits, but so does everyone. That doesn’t mean you’re not a terrible person.

The one other critique I will make is that I am personally tired of seeing tropes like academic rivals overused. I don’t think it was super needed in this book, or important to the plotline, and would always prefer to see some more unique character dynamics.

So to conclude, my feelings on this book are pretty torn. I feel bad for Jackie and greatly dislike every other character, ESPECIALLY Amelia. However, I did feel shock and outrage and am not likely to forget this book for a while. Is this a book that will make you HAPPY? no. But is it intriguing? yes. And if that’s your style, then I totally recommend! by @angelsfictionalworld

Behind Five Willows ARC review 📖🌸

Where do I even start with this. Behind Five Willows was hands down THE best book I have read so far in 2026 ❤️❤️ This book was inspired by Pride and Prejudice, which I had never read or watched before this, and it single-handedly converted me into a MASSIVE fan. It’s the kind of book that consumes your life — I must’ve spent about a week sitting in class and doing absolutely nothing apart from thinking about it.

The book is set in historical Korea during a time of heavy censorship. It follows the paths of an anonymous writer and secret scribe, pen pals who have no clue of the other’s identity. And miiiiiight just hate each other irl 🤭🤭🤭. The angst. The tension. 10000000/10 romance could not recommend further. Though I should warn you that it is a slowwwwwwww (and very satisfying 🙂‍↕️) burn. Definitely for those who like deep emotional/intellectual connection in their romances (ME ME ME 🙋‍♀️)

Although every aspect of it is perfect, the best thing in this book BY FAR is the mmc, Yu Seojun. I don’t think I’ve ever related to a character more. We are yearning twins and writing obsession twins and feeling trapped in society twins and twins of everything else. It is clear that so much thought and care was put into creating his character, showing in everything from his letter writing style to his longing to be more than himself to the poetic language in his thoughts. Not only did he feel real and 3D as a character, but he also made me feel incredibly seen ❤️

I could genuinely go on for years about everything I loved about this book. All the side characters? Amazing. Lesson on Korean history? Amazing. Deep themes and messages? Amazing. *Extremely* vivid setting? … Yeah, you get the memo.

Homebound ARC review ⚓️🤖

One major item on my bookish bucket list lately has been expanding my reading palette to include new genres, voices, and stories 💗 I have felt at times that all the new books being published feel the same, but I know that’s much more of a reflection of what I’m reading than what’s out there. So I took it upon myself to change that, and when I saw HOMEBOUND on Simon & Schuster’s ARC newsletter I knew it would be perfect for the job!

Homebound is a LOT of different things — a book that ties together stories from the 1980s all the way to the 2500s. We’ve got emotionally detached sea captains, sentient AIs, video game astronauts, futuristic scientists, and teenage girls discovering their sexual identities, all in the same book. It’s a lot to wrap your head around, that’s for sure. There are 4 povs chapters are written in, which had me pretty confused for the first half of the book. One of the povs was also almost all emails and I am sooooo sorry I just reallyyy don’t want to read emails. So that was a bit hard to get through.

I was definitely skimming some povs at times to get to the ones I found interesting. I always liked reading about the girl in the 80s and most of the time I enjoyed reading about the 2500’s sea captain as well. The other ones were a bit slow at times. I think my major obstacles were mostly just a) I was confused and b) I didn’t care enough about the characters yet to put effort into being unconfused. That being said, now that I’ve finished the book and it makes a bit more sense I do kind of want to go back and reread parts!!

I did really appreciate the messages of this book and I did cry at the end of the story of the girl in the 80s. It was cool to see everything click together as well!

So maybe this isn’t my new favourite book, but I do think it was a valuable and thought-provoking read. Recommended to people who want to think a lot while they’re reading and to people who are looking for something a little different 🫶 by @angelsfictionalworld

Gods & Comics ARC review 🖌️☀️

Thank you @penguinteenca for the ARC!! This was such a fun and heartwarming story 💛

As someone who typically never binge-reads, I devoured this entire book in a shocking three days! The writing style was so easy to get into and every time I tried to put it down I found myself deciding to read *just one more chapter* which soon turned into five. Especially towards the end of the book, the stakes got really high and i just HAD to read the entire thing to the end. Even though I had a calc test the next day 😅 I’m sure Grace (the MC) could relate 😛

Gods & Comics follows the story of Grace, an overachieving high school student struggling with loss who accidentally brings a Korean mythological god to life. I think Grace’s character was done really well and I really enjoyed seeing her growth throughout the book. There was one point during the story where I thought to myself, ‘she’s kind of annoying’, which was hilarious to me given how much we have in common from student government to panic attacks to losing a grandparent. Definitely a cause for a bit of reflection 😅 Overall though I do think she was a great character and learned a lot of valuable lessons. This was also one of the first times I read a book and noticed the MC being younger than me (growing up is so weird wow) which felt so strange (though not in a bad way) and brought back a lot of memories.

Another character I really liked was Hae, the god of the sun and love interest of the book! Hae accidentally gets brought to Earth as a high schooler, and Grace has to figure out how to help him get back home. Hae is funny and confident and empathetic. His story was so interesting and he’s such a likable character from the get-go. He’s so sweet to Grace and every chapter with him in it is a good one 😚

silly lil post for today to get you all excited for EYES OF KINGS, releasing August 4 2026!! Eyes of Kings is the third book in the Flesh & False Gods Trilogy, after Immortal Longings and Vilest Things! ⚔️ this series features deadly stakes, iconic (and somewhat toxic) characters, action, romance, politics, and a plot full of twists and turns that keeps you terrified and excited for what could happen next ❤️‍🔥

if you aren’t already familiar with the world of Flesh and False Gods, one super fun thing about it is that Chloe (the author) ‘s cat Mao Mao is a character in the series!! he’s also the only one guaranteed to survive to the end of the trilogy 😅😅😅 so at least we have that 😅

The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox is a total rollercoaster of a book, full of romance, mythology, action, and of course tears (my personal favourite 😁). This book is NOT for the faint of heart — it can get quite dark at times, is both hopeful and heartbreaking, and is guaranteed to consume your every waking moment!!

The story centers around a demon and a demon hunter who have to work together to escape the depths of hell. The plot weaves in mythology in such an interesting way, and had me on the edge of my seat every second. As a huge fan of Katrina’s fantasy writing in the past, I was so happy to return to her worlds, and LOVED the little crossover with The Last Dragon of The East (one of my all time favourite books) 🥰

I love all the characters in this book with my entire heart 💗💗 Found family will forever be my favourite trope, and tlotntf does it SOO well. I really bonded with all of them and literally freaked out every time I thought someone was going to get hurt. The main character, Yue, is so incredibly authentic and relatable, and her story made me sooo emotional from the get go. I really loved seeing the development she went through in her character and in her relationships with others. And can we talk about the romance?! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Yue and Sonam I love you to the ends of the earth.

This has been one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and somehow yet still surpassed my expectations. It’s the kind of book that I will still be thinking about months from now. I already can’t wait to reread 😁

Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend, you’ve all GOT to read this one!!! Go get your copy TOMORROW and join me, Yue, & Sonam in hell. Trust me, you’ll love it 😁❤️
