Hey — I’m Angie
It’s been a long time (or maybe never) since I’ve properly introduced myself, so please allow me.

I’ve always done both — design and admin, creativity and coordination. One foot in production schedules, the other in a pile of fabric. For over a decade, I’ve worked in experiential marketing, guerrilla campaigns, community events, and all kinds of productions — for big brands, local and international orgs, and everything in between.

I got my master’s in fashion design from Accademia Italiana in Florence, but I’ve been sewing since I was ten. In school, I was the one taking it to the next level — ahem *hot gluing flowers* ahem and always making the thing bigger and pushing the limits.

In 2010, it hit me that the way I see and make things isn’t something everyone can do. I figured I shouldn’t waste it. I started sharing more of my work online — on Instagram, Tumblr, then my website (thanks, @mgieva). And from there, things grew. People started finding me. Collaborating. Asking for things I hadn’t even realized I could offer.

Since then, I’ve worked with makeup artists, costumers, photographers, production designers, dancers, stylists, textile makers, videographers. I’ve costumed ballets. Helped with film festivals. Styled shoots. Run workshops. Designed jewelry. Done makeovers. Hosted sustainable fashion pop-ups. Decorated events. Co-led creative projects with people I deeply admire.

A few highlights I still squeal over:
– Showcasing at a long-running eco-fashion show created by my dear friend and mentor, Karen
– Costuming for local theater and dance performances
– Judging film fest for The Clubhouse Network
– Contributing to Harlem’s Fashion Row, Detroit Polo Classic, most recently Harlem Fashion week 2024 and more

Some of my work has been covered in The Boston Globe, The Cut, Vouge Italia. I’ve won some “most creative” awards, sure — but i know there's so much more.

16 and 18 hour days have been normal since I was 17 years old ... I'm learning a new pace these days, but PLEASE check the receipts, I'm begging you.

I often hear "your face is so familiar" 😅 I just say "I get that a lot" because I make rounds in different places for different companies, uncanny but the nature of the job by @angiespavilion

Do you have a "For your humanity" calendar reminder? If not you should consider - and watching the lorax should be one of those things that you put on there!

There's this part at the end of the movie where everyone's kind of singing in unison, and every time I hear it it does something to me, it reminds me -

Now is the time to actualize the altruism... It's more than possible and has been happening under the surface for some time!(Ask me how I know) #buynothings #sharingeconomies #fixitclinics #farmersmarkets #communityfridges #freelibraries #freestores #church (ask for recommendations), #freecycle #fbcomnunitygroups your #neighborhoodassociations #foodrecoveryapps like "toogoodtogo", that deep communal framework exists already.. MUTUAL AAAAAAAIIIDDDDDDDDDDD, now we have to use what exists to fix ourselves, fill our cups and then help each other

I said if I ever ran for office WHICH WILL N. E. V. E. R. HAPPEN, my deliverables would include mandatory (see😅) volunteer time for everyone aged 6 to 99 2 hours a week everyone in "underresourced" communities would have to share their skill... Can you imagine? No one would need anything if everyone shared their skill...that's why I work for free (I make sure my needs are met first and then..)

I'm shocked everytime I hear it! The first time I was working for @tonywilliamsdancecenter sewing tutu's 😍 and the head designer said that Tony couldn't believe I would help for free....I thought .. Tony da boss knows who I am?!? Then I thought if the girls at my university knew I was sewing tutu's they would want to also (read: be SO JEALOUS!🤣) to a little nobody like me, one of the very few successful black dance studio directors knowing who I was in itself would be worth it if I wasn't enjoying myself making beautiful things - he'd probably STILL give me a job right now if I asked & that was 10 yrs ago!

There are too many gaps in the communal pipeline, instead of situations like that viral post "YN's at work" working at fast food places, what if little brothers worked someplace...they actually liked... Professional development would be a BYPRODUCT of their high quality of life because they were enjoying doing what they like and are competent at naturally (going with the grain of their make-up and not against it) kids DO want to "work" for places that are actually cool if they can afford to do it for "free" (value exchange must cover the things they'd sacrifice getting a normal job
.
Anyway, this is why I am such an advocate for working for "free" value exchange is absolutely taking place in a way that feels really good to both parties, money just becomes obsolete
...
And listen the mutual aid people don't seem to like me for whatever reason 😂🤣 so don't come over here being weird I'm addressing a frequently asked questions okay! Leave me be

A lil trip to bk... The whole trip people were screaming "KELLY!!" 🫪 How come y'all never give her money when you screaming her name?!

I stayed in a b&b in Jersey - I'm all about the views and I was right on the water it was such a humongous house!!
.
I had no plan and tried to do three activities a day, I did not anticipate my first activity would be finding some place to sleep and negotiating with a bike caddy...
.
I like to say to myself that at the tea party in Alice in wonderland movie... The best part for me is when she's leaving the scene and the music slowly fades away (a nuanced and incredibly subtle audible/liminal/ transitional cue) - and as somebody with a little separation anxiety normally something like that could trigger some deep anxiety (in my real life) but in NY it's always meant the next adventure is on the way (just like in the movie).

I'm still processing the beginning of my summer... This has been so incredible! I'm so thankful I took the risk. This 10 months has taught me SO much in a condensed timeframe

I am thrilled I get to have 8 months of belonging to myself guilt free (🤤)

My use of "ancestors" and "shamans" is allegorical for my hot prudies
