🎣 Over the last six months, Billingford Lakes & Country Park has been introducing young people to angling through our Get Kids Fishing programme for ages 7–16 and Little Tiddlers for ages 5–7, supported by the Angling Trust’s Get Fishing Fund.

Our sessions are run by Angling Trust licensed coaches and volunteers, offering a friendly, supportive setting for children to learn fishing skills, build confidence and enjoy time outdoors. All equipment and bait are provided, making it easy for families to get involved.

Alongside these sessions, we are running Get Fishing Days from 10am–3pm, with a lunch break from 12–1pm and opportunities to work towards Bronze, Silver and Gold Get Fishing awards. We also offer CAST Awards Levels 1 & 2, followed by Levels 3 & 4, providing a pathway for young anglers to develop their skills further.

It has been lovely to share the excitement of fishing with children and their families. Our aim is to help them develop an interest they can enjoy for years to come, alongside an appreciation of fish welfare and the natural environment. 🌱

Our autumn programme includes Get Kids Fishing and Little Tiddlers sessions on 3rd, 17th and 24th October and 8th November, priced at £10 per session. We also have a full day course on 28th October, from 10am–3pm, costing £30 per child. Private tuition and group bookings are available too.

📅 Families can find upcoming events and book via the link in our bio by searching “Billingford Lakes”.

Thank you to the Angling Trust for its support, and to our coaches and volunteers for their time and enthusiasm in helping the next generation discover fishing. 🎣 by @angling_trust

Fisheries Enforcement team working with clubs to help protect your waters.

Regional Enforcement Support Manager for the South East Tom Hopes was recently over with a group from the Reading & District Angling Association. This fantastic club has some top waters, a great team at the helm, and some active bailiffs who regularly patrol their waters.

Even the best clubs and fisheries need support, and thanks to funding provided by the Environment Agency through rod licence sales, our work of enforcement means we can provide free training covering how to respond to incidents, what to look out for, Invasive Non-Native Species, and we continue our support supplying a network of contacts to help with many issues.

All of this information is contained in the free online training called FishNET. You don't have to be a bailiff or part of a club, you can register and begin today using the link in our bio.

🎣 Angling can make a real difference

It was brilliant to see @Bodle_Angling and @letsgofishing_amhi bringing their work to the South of England show and showcasing the positive impact angling can have on young people and mental wellbeing.

The Angling Trust was proud to support their involvement, helping create another opportunity to introduce people to the benefits of fishing and the community that comes with it.

Great to hear directly from the young people involved and see the enthusiasm they have for angling. 👏🎣

One of the country’s most iconic carp venues turns to the Angling Trust for expert guidance in tackling a predation problem, despite already having an otter fence in place.

See how they approached the challenge in the latest Environment Agency-funded video. In this film, Angling Trust Fishery Management Advisor Jake Davoile explains why installing a fence is only the beginning of effective fish stock protection. He highlights the importance of regular inspections, ongoing maintenance, and the often-time-consuming process of monitoring fences to ensure they remain secure.

As Jake demonstrates, it is this continued vigilance that ultimately determines whether an otter fence succeeds in keeping predators out and safeguarding valuable fish stocks.

Three years. An extraordinary team effort. And now, our final data collection trip. 💚🎣

Working alongside the @uniessex and the @nihr_research, we have reached an incredible milestone: completing data collection for our large randomised controlled trial exploring how angling and time in nature can reduce symptoms of PTSD.

Behind that achievement are countless hours of preparation, dedication and care, and people whose experiences give this research its purpose.

People like Jayne, pictured here with her support dog Bertie and a beautiful common carp. Before this trip, Jayne had never fished. Today, she is part of something that could help shape support for so many others. 🐾💚

PTSD can make the world feel overwhelming. Our work creates opportunities to find calm, build confidence and connect with people who understand. Those moments of relief matter. Understanding how they translate into lasting improvements is what this research is about.

To every participant, @angling_trust coach, volunteer and researcher: thank you. Together, we have brought three years of shared commitment to this remarkable point.

The data collection ends here. Our determination to improve lives carries on. 💚

Predation by otters can devastate fish stocks within just a few seasons, posing a significant challenge for fishery managers.

While otter-proof fencing has become an increasingly common sight at fisheries across the country, installing a fence is only the first step.

Ongoing inspections, maintenance, and repairs are essential to ensure there are no weaknesses, as determined otters will quickly exploit even the smallest vulnerability.

In the latest Environment Agency-funded video, Angling Trust Fishery Management Officer Jake Davoile demonstrates the importance of effective fence management once an installation is complete. The video highlights how protecting a fishery from this apex predator requires a long-term commitment, with regular monitoring and maintenance playing a vital role in keeping fish stocks safe.

The full video is out this Sunday on the Angling Trust YouTube channel but here’s a quick teaser here to whet your appetite.

Linch Hill is one of the most well-known carp fisheries in the country.

Steeped in big fish history and notable catches, it is hard to believe that even complexes such as this, with a state-of-the-art otter fencing, high footfall, and vigilant members, still face the same problems with predation as other fisheries.

In this latest Environment Agency funded video, the Angling Trusts Fishery Management Advisor, Jake Davoile talks through how time and perseverance is one of the key ways to keeping apex predators out of fenced fisheries.

Hundreds of year's worth of both angling and legal experience.

Each year, the Angling Trust and Fish Legal get together for an All-staff day allowing the departments to discuss the previous year's challenges, progress, the work across various departments, as well as any upcoming developments. These days are essential at helping our staff grow together, and helps us realise we are part of something much bigger than our own individual jobs.

Thank you to every person who supports our work through membership, everyone who takes the time to like and share our work, every follower of our page, all our ambassadors and trade partners, and even those who take time to constructively point out what we can do better. We will continue to serve you using our vast angling knowledge and environmental expertise, and want to celebrate our achievements as we look forward to the year ahead.

A recent visit from one of the Angling Trust's Club and Fisheries Support Officers (CFSOs) to Feltham and Twickenham Angling Society showcased the dedication and resilience of a small, close-knit club that has overcome numerous challenges, including fish kills, poaching incidents, and oxygen crashes over the years.

In this short but insightful video, club members explain how they manage their waters, demonstrate their resourcefulness, and share why being a member of the Angling Trust for the past 15 years has been so important to their success.

If your club or fishery needs support with issues such as Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS), biosecurity measures, or the day-to-day challenges of fishery management, follow the club and fisheries support link in our bio.
