Modern trolling motors still blow me away.

Here, @terry_bigshow_scroggins powers through a thick mat of emergent vegetation on Caddo Lake — the Texas-Louisiana border — during last year’s @majorleaguefishingofficial Team Series.

He and teammate @britt_myers_fishing punched through salvinia and hyacinth all day, fishing water that a few years ago you could only reach with a push pole.

That’s how much the game has changed.

Going back to last year around this time, when @wheelerfishing and @markdanielsjr pulled off a last-ditch run to win Major League Fishing’s Heritage Cup in Minocqua, Wisconsin.

I never get tired of watching fans greet the winners after these tournaments. Young or old, it doesn’t matter. The joy bass fishing brings to people still makes me smile.

About two weeks ago I filmed an @infishermanmagtv segment on Lake Ontario — not calling it anything different — with @bytoddceisner, Capt. Rob Westcott, and first mate Hunter Westcott.

Rob and Hunter put us on trout and salmon fast. Conditions were not ideal. Six-foot rollers from every direction.

I was worried about keeping a steady shot. More worried about keeping breakfast down.

It settled. Stomach settled. Fun segment.

Look for it on In-Fisherman TV in 2027.

I’ve been through some rough boat rides, but this one takes the cake.

Day 1 of the Starlink Team Series Patriot Cup on the Potomac. @colbymillerfishing and @justincooperoutdoors (Team Star brite) decided to leave a protected creek and make a move to the main river. As you can tell from the footage, the Potomac was a little sporty.

I was feeling sorry for myself — questioning a few life choices — but Colby might have had it worse. Poor guy had to hold all of his partner’s rods in those conditions.

Thankfully the river settled later, and they found enough fish to get Team Star brite over the elimination line. I really enjoyed working with Colby and Justin. They have a genuine friendship and an attitude that rubs off on you.

Always a pleasure working with MLF official Keith Conley, too. Man, have Keith and I been through some stuff.

Had a great time filming the first Major League Fishing Team Series event on the Potomac River in Maryland a few weeks back. It’s always fun seeing how the pros interact with having a partner in the boat. Some guys really gel well together on the water, others not so much.

The Knighten Industries team of @gagliardifishing and @keith_carsonn were a good example of the former. Great dudes with a somewhat similar fishing style and a willingness to listen to each other’s ideas on how to catch fish.

It's crazy to think I took this selfie nearly a month ago. August was the busiest I've ever been since I started freelancing way back in 2009. It's been a blur, but thankful.

This photo was from Stage Seven of the Bass Pro Tour in Sandusky, Ohio. Had a little different role on this shoot from the standard on-the-water coverage I usually do. At Stage Seven, I was tasked with filming the Sandusky area to showcase the sights and sounds for the Major League Fishing livestream audience. I also filmed the enormous (and heavy) Bass Pro Tour Champion and Angler of the Year trophies. It was fun getting to know the area and looking for cool backdrops.

Sandusky is really a sleeper of a town that surprised the hell out of me. Really cool stuff to do and the people were very friendly. I left that area with a genuine appreciation of the community. #BassProTour #MajorLeagueFishing #BassFishing #SanduskyOhio #OnTheWater by @anglinguploaded

I'm so thankful to have worked with MeatEater founder, @stevenrinella, this summer for a special livestream event in Montana for MyOutdoorTV. Always fun putting on my producer hat from time to time and getting out of my comfort zone of fishing.

Steven and the MeatEater crew were fantastic to work with, but I'm most proud of my team who pulled off an awesome shoot even with a few curveballs thrown at 'em. Major kudos to videographers, Phil Cuttino, @westphalproductions, Tom Wayne, and drone operator, Chris Clark.

Much fun was had during the friendly skeet shooting competition. Pretty great watching the camaraderie between the guys at MeatEater and the near constant ribbing they were giving to one another. Definitely a group with a great sense of humor. One of the highlights of this summer was working with @callanefishing during the last regular season event of the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit on Lake Champlain in New York.

Cal won the tournament throwing a one-two punch at the bass. He started by hitting smallmouth with a jighead minnow and FFS, then drove down the lake to grass beds for largemouth.

Cal’s a great kid (nearly everyone’s a kid to me—I’m 50) and one hell of an angler with some impressive instincts for his age. He also comes from good fishing stock. The Lane family has been consistent hammers in this sport for years.

I don’t know where the hell summer has gone, but I’m not surprised it’s all been a blur. This just always seems to be the case anymore.

It started off with a really fun catfish trip with my wife, Jessica, to the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes in central Minnesota. Between dodging thunderstorms, we managed to boat some impressive channel cats, including her biggest ever — well over 10 pounds. If you live in Minnesota and you’ve never experienced this fishery, it’s well worth the trip. Lots of fish, and the size structure has improved greatly in the last few years.
