It's easy to get caught up in unrealistic expectations and miraculous promises. When it comes to English, it's also easy to demand excessively of yourself.
"I should be better by this point."
"I don't think this is for me."
"I am too bad at it."

This kind of self-doubt is often fueled by comparison. That's why it's so important to understand that your journey is and will be unique to you. There is no perfect mold, there is no perfect sequence.

Forget perfectness, embrace your own process 🙏

Also, thank you to my amazing girlfriend for helping me with this post 💕 by @anibalbibal

If you just CAN'T sit down and study (hi, ADHD 👋🏻), you don't need to force it. You don't need grammar books and endless homework, you just need to change your environment.

Before I ever spoke the language professionally, these 3 lazy habits rewired my brain to think in English:

1️⃣ - The "Default English" rule: Everything I watch online is in English. YouTube, Netflix, etc. The only exception is if Portuguese is the original language.

2️⃣ - The Constant Monologue: I talk to myself in English all day long. If I'm cooking, planning my day or solving a problem, the voice in my head (and out loud) is in English most of the time. This bridges the gap between thinking and speaking.

3️⃣ - AI & Web Search: My Google searches, phone, and prompts to AI are entirely in English. If you use your daily tools in English, your brain stops treating the language like a "subject" and starts treating it like a real utility.

💼 The Payoff: Because I built these habits early, I felt comfortable enough to eventually transition my entire career. For the last 3 years, I've spent 30+ hours a week speaking with clients from all over the world, and turned English into my main source of income. But it all started with the small things above.

What's one small habit you can change to English today? Let me know below 👇🏻 taken in Curitiba, Paraná by @anibalbibal

𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘰 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘰

Nossa maior arma contra a autossabotagem é a consciência.

The Affective Filter Hypothesis is a great way to understand how to choose YOUR ideal approach to practice English.

Remember: The point of having practice sessions is to have them IMPROVE your English, not just passive consumption.
You want to:
- Feel comfortable/Engaged
- Try to produce language (speak, write)
- Make mistakes
- Be corrected somehow (a tutor like me, feedback from apps or AI)
- Try again

This cycle is what will refine actually USABLE language and make you more confident over time!

People love to make things more complicated than they need to be. Get out there, make mistakes, learn from them, and get out there again.

You can't learn to swim in a drop of water. You need an ocean of exposure. Volume means pairing high Input (inhaling the language) with low-friction Output (exhaling it) every single day.

🧠 The Science Behind It:

Dr. Stephen Krashen’s Input Hypothesis: Your brain is a statistical machine. It maps patterns, vocabulary, and grammar subconsciously when you flood it with massive amounts of content you understand.

Dr. Merrill Swain’s Output Hypothesis: Flooding your brain isn't enough to speak. High-volume practice (like shadowing or self-talk) forces your brain to bridge the gap between understanding a word and actually using it.

🛠️ Today's Homework:

Inhale: Turn your digital ecosystem to English (phone, videos, podcasts).

Exhale: Don't wait for a partner. Start talking to yourself or shadowing your favorite creators to build muscle memory.

Treat it like medicine. Massive volume over time is what rewires the brain. 💊 taken in Curitiba, Paraná by @anibalbibal

These 3 things are the pillars for long-term fluency.

It came to me this morning, actually, that this is something I did for years without knowing.

Keep these things in mind, and apply this lens to whatever you're doing:
Is it providing good volume?
Is it interesting?
Does it help me be consistent?

All of this + time = Improvement :) taken in Curitiba, Paraná by @anibalbibal
