Behind the Name…

First and foremost thank you for being here and supporting my little creative corner.

Ani is a short version from my name Annamaria. Born and raised in Hungary. 🇭🇺 Living in USA 🇺🇸 since 1990.
My family & close friends always called me Ani growing up.
I have been moving furniture around and decorating, always trying to set up a room to feel more comfortable and usable since I was 9.

The original name of the business was ‘Deco Chic’ but in 2015 I decided to change it.
My husband is my biggest fan and supporter on this journey, he has been telling me it should be under my name. Paris is one of my favorite cities and I have a long love affair with the Eiffel Tower -- that looks like a tall standing letter ‘A’ -- so it felt natural to include that in my name design.

It has been an honor to meet the incredibly talented designer @martynbullard on our good friend’s wedding. I have been admiring his work for years! He has been so gracious to meet me and take picture together. It truly made my day. I’m humbled.
I only wish I could learn from you.

If my decorations could talk…
they would tell you that I’m never settling for just one thing. I change my mind often 😜
It is fun to change things up and see different outcomes from one object.
Take this piece of cacti. It finally became part of a display for a future tablescape.

It used to be a table lamp, then when we moved out of Arizona it no longer really fit in with our decor. I took it apart and used to display it with faux flower arrangements.
It sat for a while… waiting.
Since I’m always collecting things from nature to decorate with, such as shells, coconuts and tropical tree leaves, it hit me how I can finish it.
With a recent palm tree trimming finding, it felt perfect.

October made me… change my mind - about the original door handle that came with new door. It is a stainless steel long bar, little too modern even for my taste. See last slide -

After some search we special ordered a natural wood handle. It will tie in nicely with new siding and trim on house (once we get to that point) and the warm wooden handle bar softens the look.

‘Leaving in September…’
‘Taking into October…’

When Summer leaves you behind,
I add color to my decorations, make it feel like sunny days are still here. This October I’m taking some new Autumn decorations with me. Mixing it up with silver and gold to add shine. Throwing some pearls into the mix. I had a mix of black and gold faux flowers sitting around. When I found white sugar pearl pumpkins on my latest hunt, I knew how to incorporate the two together. An elegant fun tablescape was born for this October season.
Special thanks to my daughter and son-in-law for ‘Paris’ vase and to a dear potter friend for another. They compliment the table gorgeously.

This or That…?

Both bedrooms have decorative elements from ocean life and natural wooden furniture, … but
One has vibrant details like an unexpected pink chair…

…and unusual shell art with silk pillows…

The other has more neutral tones…

Carved mango wood light that gives a soft glow…

Black and white photograph on canvas with softly striped pillows…

Each one is differently comforting.

If I listened to the contractor to just fix up the old crumbling garage and driveway we would’t have the backyard we have today.

The existing garage was basically 5 steps away from the house. It had caving in walls in the back and beams inside were so low that you could hit your head trying to walk around…. It ate up all useable yard space.
So we went for it, got permit, demolished it and built new garage at the edge of property line. It not only gave us new strong building, but lot more side and backyard. It’s a beautiful new building now; not an eye sore. Yes it was a lot of work and $$$. More than we planned on I must say. But we were also lucky to have family around and best neighbor and friends to help with labor (and lots of muscle) 😝
It made for a more fun and exciting build!
