I stepped onto NIU’s campus as a transfer student with a mission. I was committed to transforming into more than just a great student, but a damn good scholar.

ACT II. The Media Diva 👩🏾‍💻

CTRL ALT DEGREE 🎓

When I switched majors my junior year, I knew it wasn’t the “safe” route but instead the best one for me. That decision uncovered a fuel , that lit the fire to a passion I didn’t know existed, to what finally felt like me.

Media studies isn’t just an academic field; but instead, a gateway into newfound ways of human-machine communication, interpersonal relationship building, and the advancement of technologies. It is the embodiment of how media shapes not only cultural identity, but the skills we need to consume and critically understand what is being put in front of us.

With this quote in mind, I will continue my journey of becoming a part of the 6% of BLACK WOMEN who work in the media field. To make sure that women who look like me, have the ability to show our faces in the rooms that count, even if the rooms are against us.

My bonds. My sisters. We stepped into a room together as strangers, and on April 1st 2023 walked out with a bond I will carry within my heart forever. As the baby of the bunch I had no idea the impact you 10 would have on my life. I prayed to God for big sisters, and he blessed me with 10. Ain’t he good🥹💜? All of the laughter, tears, bonding, and moments we shared was taken with great appreciation; and id it all again if it meant doing it with you. 11 in 11 out🤞🏾

To 5 C.H.A.R.S and A.M.B.I.T.I.O.U.S 10:

My Babies. My Legacies. Thank you for allowing me to be a role model, and trusting me enough to help lead you through your journeys into Federated Womanhood. I am glad the legacy of WOA is in your hands to carry and pass on. Continue to lift, continue to climb, and continue to remember that sisterhood is the most important🧗🏾‍♀️💟.
