Every snorkeler’s nightmare 💀Have you ever been attacked by a triggerfish? 😭

WHAT DID YOU DO?!

I’m genuinely scared to snorkel again 😂
What’s the right thing to do when a triggerfish comes at you or avoid the trigger? 🥲

❗️Caution: Danger of addiction. ❗️Once you’ve swum in the turquoise waters of the Maldives, you’ll want to do it again and again. Looking at the water here is absolutely healing for me.

I’ve been asked if the Maldives aren’t boring. Not for me at all. When I’m here on the beach I don’t even get to read my book because I just want to look at the beautiful surroundings. And I’m lucky that I can go snorkeling almost every day.

However, when it rains it can get boring, the Maldives shine in all their beauty when the sun shines.

Everyone thinks Bali is overcrowded. But here’s the truth. 🌿

Yes, places like Canggu, Uluwatu and central Ubud can be busy. But they’re also convenient when you live here, with beaches, gyms, cafés and great restaurants nearby.

But there’s another side to Bali. Just north of Ubud, you’ll find peaceful villages, lush rice fields and jungle villas where you might even have the whole place to yourself. 🤍

I love living in the busy areas, but escaping to the countryside for a weekend is the perfect reset. The difference is like night and day.

Sorry, but you need to see this place for yourself. Those are views of LOCAL Islands by way. Paradise doesn’t have to be super expensive. 🩵😊

No filter, no expectations. Just one of those places that’s even better in real life. ✨

3 fun facts about me…

1. In my childhood I have moved 8 times. I have lived in three different countries (Germany, Austria and Italy). It's possible that this helped me in my decision to be a nomad. Now the world is my home. 🌏

2. When I was a teenager, I had a pet rat. I took it to school with me where it slept in the sleeve of my sweater.🐁

3. I was very bad at school. I failed and had to repeat the 11th grade. But I still managed to get my PhD in economics. 🧑🏻‍🎓

Think the Maldives are only for the rich? Think again. 🌴💙

Having experienced both local islands and luxury resorts, I can honestly say that both have their own special magic.

Resorts offer that unique feeling of luxury, while local islands give you a glimpse into everyday Maldivian life — with charming little cafés, incredible marine life, stunning sandbanks and turquoise water that can be just as breathtaking as on resort islands.

Of course, beaches on local islands can be a little wilder and less pristine than those at luxury resorts. But for travellers looking for authentic experiences without the resort price tag, they’re absolutely worth exploring. 🐠🌊 by @anigranini_nomad
