I am blessed to have learnt, trained by #bjayashree and continue to play this iconic role #Devarasi which was originally performed by Kannada actor Devaraj and then legacy continued with amazing actors like @k_suchendra_prasad @kannarpadyramakrishna and many others for over 800 shows.

One of the beautiful dance compositions of my guru @poornimagururaja . So grateful to aunty for composing this arudhi keeping my body and energy in mind. The practice at @kalasindhu_academy is focused on an individual's strength and challenges and there is always joy to see many versions and perspectives being allowed to explore in the same space.

ಕಂದಪದ್ಯ - Prosodic form
They are specific and popular four-line stanza form in ancient and medieval Kannada poetry.

ಕಂಪನಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ - Kampani theatre presented plays rich in literature, music and visuals and these kanda padyas were major part of them.
B Jayshree brings such rich artistry and passes her legacy with such diligence.

I am indebted to learn one such kandapadya from the play SADARAME, from Jayashree Amma. Her sensitivity and sensibility to everything she does is unparalleled!!!

Each rehearsal has so much value and artistry added to my personality. Over the years, I am aware of her contribution to my understanding of arts and I am truly grateful for every moment that I get to spend.

Thank you aunty for your continuous efforts to make us learn and experience such rare compositions and the richness of our parampara.

Presenting a rare gem - Thillana in Raga Kaanada and Simhanandana Tala, composed by Sri Mahavaidyanatha Iyer.

This beautiful choreography by Guru Sri Thanjavur K. P. Kittappa Pillai is a treasure trove of lineage, carefully preserved and passed on by Guru K. P. K. Chandrasekhar Pillai.

October 4th brings emotions flooding from anxiousness to joy, excitement to content, imperfections to some perfections#!

2009 was just the beginning and it has only been growth, expansion of learning-experiments-creative explorations!

Grateful to my guru @poornimagururaja aunty for everything! Gorgeous beauty with brains :):) I was lovingly, enthusiastically supported by @srivathsadebur uncle on the vocals, @sriharirangaswamy sir on the mridangam, @venugopalhemmige uncle on the flute and #Natarajmurthy sir on the Violin. Beautiful stage design by none other than @sathyanarayana.raju anna!

Raw footages: 10 years ago, we made a play. And what a play it was. ❤️

It was larger than life in every sense. A coming together of NSD artists, famous actors, aspiring actors, musicians and dancers. Some of us knew acting, some knew dance, some knew music, and most of us were figuring things out as we went.

We did the backstage work, handled properties, worked on choreography and costumes, figured out how to work with a live music pit and, for some of us, performed in Hindi for the first time.

Somewhere in those two months of rehearsals, the lines between what we knew and what we were learning started to blur. Actors learnt to dance. Dancers learnt to act. All of us learnt to work together and understand what it takes to build a production of that scale.

It was @anil_iyer first project as a choreographer and costume designer. He and Jayashree Amma travelled to Gujarat to learn the craft and bring back the costumes for the production.

For me, it was my first time assisting Amma in direction and my first experience being part of a production this huge, surrounded by so many people I had only looked up to until then.

And then, after all those rehearsals, we had just two tech rehearsals before the play was shelved.

Funny how that works.

The play never really made it to the stage, but those two months did something far more permanent. They gave us skills, friendships, stories, and an understanding of theatre that we carried far beyond that production.

Ten years later, I realise how much that one project taught us.

And perhaps the best part?

We made some incredible friends along the way. ❤️

Some plays have a long run. Some leave a long-lasting mark.

This one did both, just in a different way.
