Beautiful sunset highlights of this young kangaroo in Wilsons Prom national Park . This shot involved a little bit of sneaking in order to line this young roo up with the setting sun and to frame him with the explosive grass seeds in the foreground, I'm really happy with the feel of this photo, I love having the reach of the 600mm so I can manoeuvre around without disturbing the animal and being and to capture their relaxed state. . . . #wilsonsprom #parksvictoria #parksvic #wildlife_inspired #australianwildlifephotography #australia_downunder #ausgeo #ausgeo_wild #kangaroosofinstagram #worldkangarooday #natgeoyourshot #natgeocreative #tamroncreates #tamron150600mm #aussieanimals #aussiephotos #australianwildlife #wildlife_inspired #wildlifeplanet #WIRESPhotoComp22 by @animal.protagonist
During the last really windy day I was out taking photos, this flock of seagulls were following me along the sea walk. I feel like you can probably hear what the day was like from this picture! #tasmania #wildlifeofaustralia #BirdsAustralia #birdlife #birdsoftasmania Ra@tasmania @birdlifetasmania @omsystem_au @australia by @animal.protagonist
Always happy to see these elegant Crested Grebe's, and so cool to see one successfully catching a fish! This guy caught a good size fish, so he had to bring it to the surface so he could maneuver it around in his beak so he could swallow it. #birdsoftasmania #BirdsAustralia #ausgeo_wild #omd #birdsofinstagram by @animal.protagonist
First time enjoying a close up view of some Great Cormorants (thanks to @omsystem.cameras 100-400mm lens!) Led to a "deep dive" 😁 on their beak structure - They don't so much 'spear', but rather grab them out of crevices under water, so they have a very strong jaw, and a hooked beak so as to keep hold of their fish. Interesting hey! #wildlifeofaustralia #birdsoftasmania #birdsofaustralia @birdlifetasmania @birdlifeoz #birdfacts #birdsofinstagram by @animal.protagonist
I regular see these #hoaryheadedgrebe down at the bay when on my walks. The word hoary means frosty or greyish-white — a perfect description of this little grebe's silvery, streaked head feathers during breeding season! Its scientific name, Poliocephalus poliocephalus, also translates roughly to “grey-headed”. A bird whose name tells you exactly what to look for! #tasmania #wildlifetasmania #wildlifephotography #wildlifeofaustralia @birdlifetasmania @birdlifeoz by @animal.protagonist
Terns and pied oystercatchers may have different ways of finding food, but they often share the same coastal spaces. With terns fishing offshore and oystercatchers probing the sand for shellfish and worms, they can enjoy the same beach without competing for every meal. Sometimes, nature’s best partnerships are simply about knowing how to share a space. #birdsoftasmania #birdsofaustralia #BirdPhotography #birdfacts #tasmania by @animal.protagonist
Ever wondered why many seabirds are black and white? It’s called countershading — dark backs blend into the ocean when viewed from above, while pale bellies blend into the bright sky when seen from below. Clever camouflage for life at sea! This kelp Gull feels right at home amongst its "countershaded crew" #birdsoftasmania #birdsofaustralia #birdsofinstagram #birdfacts #olympusomd by @animal.protagonist
Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are often seen travelling in family groups, with young birds staying close to their parents as they learn to navigate the world. Their calls help them keep in touch across the treetops, keeping the flock connected even when they're spread out among the trees. #YellowTailedBlackCockatoo #BirdPhotography #birdsofaustralia #wildlifetasmania #birdsoftasmania by @animal.protagonist
Kelp Gull spotted from Eagle hawk neck. Did you know - Kelp gulls can drink seawater, they have special glands above their eyes to help remove the excess salt! #BirdPhotography #birdsofinstagram #BirdsAustralia #tasmania #birdsoftasmania by @animal.protagonist
Another endemic Tasmanian species seen on Mount Wellington yesterday, Black Currawong (Black Jay) I love seeing how playful they can be, just nonchalant awesome birds. #wildlifetasmania #mountwellingtontasmania #birdsofinstagram #birdsoftasmania #ebird by @animal.protagonist
