Hanna holds degrees and certifications in dance therapy, psychology, performance, choreography, vinyassa/yin/restorative yoga, non-profit management, interdisciplinary art, and arts integration. Based in Burlington VT, Hanna shares these passions as an intergenerational educator, interdisciplinary performer + collaborator, contemporary choreographer, experimental curator and event producer. Hanna is the founder of the Vermont Dance Alliance, the INSTINCT Experimental Dance Festival, and ANIMAL Dance Performance and Production Company. Hanna currently directs ANIMAL Dance, creating work that highlights the sentience shared between species, honoring the ephemeral language of the body in motion. by @animaldancevt
“Future Nostalgia” ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Nolan Farrell aka noltron @noltron_ has been DJing on and off for the past 10 years, driven by an obsession with music and live shows that goes back as far as he can remember. He is constantly digging for new sounds to share. For Nolan, the craft is ultimately about connection; he finds immense joy in sharing his tastes with people, playing with the energy of a room, and creating memorable, shared moments for fellow music lovers. by @animaldancevt
“Future Nostalgia” ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Maura Gahan is a dance artist who performs and collaborates with musicians, farmers, loggers, and more. Her current research explores somatic understandings of dowsing, horses, and fairy tales. She trained extensively with Steve Paxton, Lisa Nelson, and Peter Schumann, and has performed in works directed by Paxton/Robert Ashley, Jennifer Miller, Simone Forti, John Heginbotham, and Cathy Weis. A former member of Bread and Puppet Theater, she co-created Lubberland National Dance Company. Gahan loves supporting other companies as a “called-in” rehearsal director and choreographic collaborator. She holds a BFA from Ohio University and an MFA and Teaching Fellowship from Bennington College, and works with children in the NEK. by @animaldancevt
“Future Nostalgia” ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Sarah Vogelsang-Card @kittycakekiller is a soloist and longtime performer with The Accaliae @theaccaliae , a theatrical fusion dance company she has performed with since 2009. The company explores storytelling and ritual movement through diverse dance disciplines and artistic forms. Living with a lifelong progressive neuromuscular condition that has affected her mobility, including periods of wheelchair use, Sarah has developed an adaptive and expressive approach to movement. Her work reflects resilience, creativity, and an evolving relationship with her body. Sarah performs contemporary, Raq Sharqi, Afro Fusion Sharqi, and folkloric styles, with storytelling always at the heart of her performance and artistic expression. by @animaldancevt
“Future Nostalgia” ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Mia Makarski (she/her/hers) @miamakarski is a Burlington-based movement artist indulging in intensity, vulnerability, femininity, and exploring theatricality beyond the body’s limits. Performing with pre-professional company Inferno Dance Co. in Rochester, MI from 2023-2025 and currently studying as a Dance major at the University of Vermont, Mia fascinates herself with dynamic performance in both her own dancing and choreographic processes. Her passion for dance stems from how movement can simply make so much sense—or in contrast, the lack of sense and practicality it can have. Mia is also a baker in downtown Burlington and enjoys baking, cooking, and traveling when not dancing. by @animaldancevt
“Future Nostalgia” ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Maggie Maury @maggie.maury is a 23-year-old dancer from Pittsburgh, PA. She discovered her love of dance at age 3 when her mom put her in ballet and tap classes at her local studio. Since then, she has trained in a variety of styles, including jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and contemporary. In the fall of 2021, Maggie shifted from the competitive dance world to the more creative, modern dance style of UVM. Here, she reignited her passion for dance and the art of storytelling through the body. She has dived deeper into the possibilities of this medium through ANIMAL Dance’s “Future Nostalgia” and is excited to see how the piece comes to life on the stage and in the barn. by @animaldancevt
ANIMAL Dance’s newest work, “Future Nostalgia,” nods to two ideas: that there will be a time when we viscerally miss what is happening now, and there will be a time when we wish we could tell our past selves of the good that will come out of their current hardship. “Future Nostalgia” touches on the concept of being in a specific and tenuous moment, with five sides of one character in dialogue, each dancer representing one of five voices within the self. At the Vermont Dance Alliance Gala on September 26th, ANIMAL Dance will premiere an indoor version of the material, which has been created to be part of an upcoming evening length interspecies performance, developed inside of a dirt-floor vaulted-ceiling horse barn. Click the link in bio for more information about the Gala performance, and get your tickets! Shows are 6 and 8pm, held at the Montpelier Performing Arts Chapel. ANIMAL Dance performance company features new collaborators per creative project. Join us as we introduce the artists involved in this work! Future Nostalgia was developed with residency support from the Flynn @flynncenter , North Star Community Hall @northstarhallvermont , and UVM’s Horse Barn @uvmhorsebarn , with additional support from the Vermont Arts Council @vtartscouncil and the Vermont Community Foundation, and the very special Vermont Dance Alliance Choreographer’s Seed Grant @vermontdance !!! by @animaldancevt
My dreams have always been prolific, vivid, captivating, otherworldly, but lately through the haze and laze of summer they’ve really ramped up. No wonder I strive to participate in the inconceivable, untouchable other realms during my waking hours. To be part of hosting a fantastical picture, to feel each element blooming and storming alive within my human body, to feel I can disappear or reappear or fly, or conduct the shifting of energy, or make colors swirl into shapes never been seen before. If it’s possible with my eyes closed, what is possible with my eyes open? Enter the dance. A space to discover without striving to understand, to twirl the old with the new with the now, to feel a sense of mystery that gives me chills while making me sweat. I practice and perform whole heartedly, aching for art to continue to redefine what’s possible. So grateful for each challenge and chance to create, to unveil a wild imagination even if it’s just a tiny bit by a tiny bit. So join us at @fledge.fest in celebration of the impossible, implausible, revolution of what can be! “Bird,” a short and tender movement meditation performed by Maura Gahan and Hanna Satterlee 7:20pm Saturday. Feathered masks, human bodies, bird spirits, reminders of the sky, and if you want it, the key that unlocks your inner secrets and reveals them only back to you. (You are the revolution) Fledgefest= a homegrown outdoor festival party with an incredible line up of workshops, performances and musical offerings. This Friday and Saturday in Tunbridge VT! 💙 “Stories of Spirit and Spirits” an ERGO/movement production June 11-13, 2026 at 7:30pm & June 13 at 2:30pm Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center Stories of Spirit and Spirits is an evening-length experimental dance and music production featuring the ten members of the improvisation ensemble, soft rocks: dancers Danielle Tekut, Julian Barnett, Hanna Satterlee, Jessie Owens, Nicole Dagesse, and Beth Morelli, and musicians Matt LaRocca, Jeremy Frederick, Kyle Saulnier, and Will Andrews. Guided by chance, faith in their craft, and trust in each other, the group embarks on a cathartic and heartfelt journey as they embody their collected and co-imagined stories. They immerse themselves and the audience in the world/s that they divine, rearrange, and revolutionize over the course of the performance. The collective invites their ghosts and their dreams, as well as their fears and their longings to weave their stories of connection and resistance. Through #music and #movement and with the support of structured improvisations, chance methods, costumes, personal mementos, and #talismans, they explore #myths and archetypes, personal ancestry, shared histories, and experimental social dynamics, as they peer into the %bardo and dance with risk in search of a new kind of togetherness. With the pull of a card or the spin of a bottle, each moment will unfold according to chance, creating alternate timelines and outcomes with every performance. They invite you to join them in their seeking. See this performance more than once to experience how chance creates a new turn of events. ‼️Ticket link in bio‼️ Join us for a reception in the lobby at Main Street Landing immediately following the 7:30pm performance on Friday, June 12. & Stay tuned for details on the July 9th and 10th performance tour in Northern Vermont! Thank you @nefa_1976 and @northstarhallvermont for a very meaningful four month solo dance residency. It has positioned me to embark on a new work (stay tuned!), which I was hopeful to be ready for, but truly needed the singular commitment of just showing up for awhile. It was a luxury, and a lifeline. So much was felt and moved through me in that room. Days when my own fractals and spirals were unveiled. A laboratory to know the body as an energetic being, such a buzzing beautiful wild mystery. May all bodies be granted freedom of expression, here, now, always. Move, feel, buzz, connect. This residency was funded in part by New England Foundation for the Arts’ New England Dance Fund, with generous support from the Aliad Fund at the Boston Foundation. by @animaldancevt
