(⬅️swipe left for tribute art by @manos_lagouvardos)

TASTE THE EAST! 🍜

Previously on Oriental Express… 🎬

Fight the ordinary. Taste the East.

See you next year! by @animecongr

I just spent five unforgettable days in Greece. AnimeCon: Run Thessaloniki is the kind of convention every creator should experience (and not just creators). It's built on a human scale, with none of the huge, overpriced and ultimately pointless booths that we see in most cons. It had a big artist alley, not overwhelming merch, and special guests who were actually special🌟

I had no idea Greece had so many anime and manga fans, or that so many people would be into original art and commissions! It went way beyond my expectations. The organizers were incredible and so kind. They're amazing people, and I'm really glad I got to meet them. They looked after us for the entire event and made sure we had everything we needed. They spoiled us like true hosts. Starting with the food🤤

If you've never tried Greek food (and you're not vegan), you have to visit Thessaloniki. Night after night, we were blown away by amazing meat-superheavy dinners. On our last morning, before saying goodbye and heading to the airport, we had cream-filled bougatsa for breakfast.

The other mangaka and guests deserve a special mention. They were an exceptionally talented group, and even though we had just met, it felt like we'd known each other forever. We swapped stories about our home markets: Italy, France, Spain and Greece. Each one of us works in a different environment, and comparing them taught me a lot about how manga, sales and publishing work across Europe. I also got to talk with people from other related fields, like cosplayers and professional idols, and they showed me so much more than the surface-level picture I had before!

A huge thank you to everyone, and especially to Fillis, the head organizer, who shares the vision of us artists of what a comics and entertainment convention should be. I hope AnimeCon: Run keeps on running, and after eight editions it clearly has no plans to stop!

Here are a few photos. There aren't many, because I was busy enjoying the moment and the people. I didn't feel the need to capture those memories anywhere but in my heart❤️

FROM ANIME TO REALITY.

The functional Ramrod Cockpit from Saber Rider was designed and built by Epsilon Builds for AnimeCon Run Thessaloniki VIII 2026.

A metal frame, 3D-printed components, electronics, controls and an interactive tablet app featuring radar, targets, videos, credits and music.

The 3D-printed components were produced on the Original Prusa XL and Prusa CORE One using ASA filament.

From the first anime reference frames and initial sketches to the final presentation at the exhibition.
