How sweet these little things in life are. I woke up too early bc I had to use the bathroom. I wanted to go to bed immediately after. But then I paused. The sky was painted in soft orange-yellow colors. I opened the window. I could feel fresh morning air flow into my lungs. And then… birds singing their songs. I just paused. I let the minutes pause by as I stood there in awe of Gods creation. I took deep breaths, as I tried to take in this beautiful art and memorise it so I can come back to this picture whenever I want to. So beautiful… life carries so much beauty and I love that. There are sparkles just waiting to be found by us and then picked up and carried with you or me wherever we go. ✨ by @anina.joy

“I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer.”
-C.S. Lewis

I love poems and quotes from C.S. Lewis. I found this one tonight and had the impression to post it. If it speaks to you, please know that God is always here, waiting for you with open arms. His love for you is beyond human measures. I pray that you can experience his peace, his love and his presence.
And I can promise -from experience and because Jesus said himself-, with him by your side, you are never alone.
No sunset will pass and no season without his presence being closer to you than your own shadow. As you walk, talk and breathe… you are loved! Every single second of your life: You are loved!
And there’s nothing you could do or not do that would make him love you less. You are worthy of his presence, through his grace. We all are. ❤️ by @anina.joy

This week I had an EDS-appointment and somehow out of the several hundert EDS-Patient that go there, my friend Claudia had hers right after me. Yet we didn’t realise that till shortly before I saw my amazing doctor. It was such a weird feeling (in a good way) to say bye to my rheumatologist and then meet Claudia and her amazing doggie Dylan in the waiting room. That was so refreshing and sweet! We both have EDS and met a year after my diagnosis to exchange our experiences. We bonded pretty fast and became good friends.

I used to think that I should dress up for church, make sure I look good. But then I realised that God doesn’t really care about that. By that I mean, that he cares about our hearts… what’s on the inside. Today, I listened to the online stream of my church in my pyjama, not-showered or dressed up at all. But I didn’t care. Jesus wants to have our everything. Not just the pretty parts of our life’s. He wants the messy parts too. And I love that about him. He doesn’t want a certain version of you. He loves you for you❤️

For me, to understand that God doesn’t want the pretty parts of our lifes but deeply cares about every little inch of our hearts, the pretty and the broken ones, has been a gamecganger.

I pray that you can encounter him in that raw, unfiltered and honest way as well! Don’t give up on his glory! God is here for you and loves and deeply cares about you sm! by @anina.joy

This is sweet Balou❤️
I am so thankful that God has given us these beautiful 4-pawed friends…
Fun fact: we humans release the cuddle hormone (or ,love hormone) oxytocin when cuddling and spending time with doggies. How funny is that...🙈🥰 by @anina.joy

There’s no cure for EDS; true or false?

I have met many EDS-patients that have been told by medical professionals that nothing can be done to treat or ease their symptoms.

While EDS can’t be cured, treatment options exist!

Today, I’d like to raise awareness about this topic. I also want to point out that HSD (=hypermobility spectrum disorder) can cause the same or similar symptoms as seen in hEDS and therefore, treatment approaches are often the same.

Why is it important to know that treatments options exist?
-Those affected can experience a severely reduced quality of life; some are even disabled and rely on the help of others. Raising awareness is crucial.

What are general recommended treatment options?
-Long-term physiotherapy
-occupational therapy
-osteopathy
-proprioception training
-Pilates/core stability training
-multimodal pain therapy
-pelvic floor therapy
-functional orthonomy and integration (FOI)
-ergonomics training
-mobility aids
-bandages and splints can help to stabilise joints and prevent or minimise subluxations or luxations —>Pls note that it’s important to wear splints/ortheses very deliberately, since, if worn too often, muscles may weaken over time, worsening symptoms

„As the symptoms are very diverse, the therapy structure must also be individually tailored. For some sufferers, the symptoms and ultimately their quality of life can be improved. For others, the therapy helps to maintain their state of health and prevent a rapid deterioration.“
(Dr. Aylin Canbek, Ehlers Danlos Netz Schweiz, own translation)

For context:
Hypermobility that does not cause pain or other symptoms is referred to as “asymptomatic joint hypermobility” and does not need to be treated.

Please note:
-If you suffer from symptomatic hypermobility please don’t try to imitate the image from above as you could seriously injure yourself!
-This post is for awareness purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.

I am embarrassingly late with this post but it is not December yet, so I feel like I can still post this😋
Disclaimer: our birthday was like 1.5 weeks ago, therefore pls don’t congratulate 😅

BUT I still wanted to share this moment with you, because I am so thankful for the people I have in my life and on birthdays I like to reflect on life. There are a lot of things that aren’t easy and challenge me daily, yet, simultaneously there are also a lot of things that are breathtakingly beautiful. I have the most amazing family, awesome friends and last but not least; there is Jesus Christ giving me so much hope, love & joy. I couldn’t do this without him really. Tomorrow is the first December. It’s Jesus’ birthday month, after my twin brothers (he is my favourite twin by the way!!!) and my birthday month. I am very excited to celebrate Jesus this following last month of 2024.
He is such an amazing and faithful friend….and in case you were wondering; yes, he loves you too! Very dearly! There’s nothing you could do or say, that could make him love you less🫶🏻❤️ by @anina.joy

A Cause Close to My Heart ❤️

Dear friends✨
I want to raise more awareness for chronic illnesses. My energy is often limited, but this topic is very close to my heart, which is why I took the time to write about this… I used to be a very healthy, active girl, until I became chronically ill, which changed my life massively.

Here’s my story:

At 18, I thought life was just beginning: traveling, dance training, spending time with friends, and deepening my faith. Through my nursing training, I discovered a new passion for medicine. But gradually, mysterious symptoms appeared: pain, digestive issues, skin rashes… and they didn’t go away. These symptoms started to limit me—physically and emotionally. Activities that were once important to me became a challenge. My personal and professional dreams seemed to slip away.

After 3 years and many doctor visits, I finally received a diagnosis: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). EDS is a rare condition, often misunderstood, even by healthcare professionals. Along with chronic pain, there are many associated conditions that make life difficult. However, I’m incredibly grateful to the doctors who listened to me and supported me.

Like me, many people with chronic illnesses face not only their symptoms but also misunderstanding, prejudice, and the invisibility of their struggles. Medical gaslighting is unfortunately common, and everyday life often becomes an ongoing challenge.

Did you know that globally, one in three people suffers from a chronic illness? Some illnesses are not curable, but we can strengthen understanding, raise awareness, and learn to listen to each other.

I truly believe that together we can (and will) make a change. ❤️

In your opinion, what is needed to bring more understanding of chronic illnesses into everyday life?

(And also: If you wanna learn more about EDS in particular, EDS society does an amazing job in raising awareness: @ehlers.danlos )

Love y’all!❤️
