We're excited to announce our next artist for the 2026 Summer Dance Intensive, Aniya Wingate @aniyathegreat

Aniya Wingate is a Houston-based dancer and choreographer whose work centers social and environmental justice through choreography and film. A BFA graduate from Sam Houston State University, she has trained in numerous styles including modern, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and West African. Wingate has collaborated with youth specialist Walter Hull and filmmaker John Fiege on the award-winning short film Shoulders Deep, which reflects on displacement through a choreographic lens. Wingate is also the subject of the upcoming documentary, Raising Aniya. Her work has been featured at Dance Italia, the Climate Story Lab, the National Mentoring Summit, HSPVA, and through Urban Souls Dance Company, where she is also a company member. by @aniyathegreat

It’s been a while since I let myself create without expectation—just for the joy of it. Being able to share this part of me was such a vulnerable experience, especially in this setting. If anyone were to tell me a year ago I’d be training with a hip hop team, I wouldn’t believe them. I took my first class in September of 2025– it’s been 7 months since then. @galingcru showcase felt intimate & communal, but what it meant to me was anything but small.

I’m grateful to be in spaces that are curated with so much care & drive, these experiences are truly pushing me in a direction I never thought I could grasp. This solo was just a reminder for me that art lives in every space, limitations that hold us back are mental, & I can do whatever I wanna do lol.
