Okay, I finally understand the Verity obsession. And I did NOT expect to give this book five stars.

Considering Colleen Hoover is probably one of the most controversial authors on Bookstagram, I went into Verity with fairly low expectations. But this book? It genuinely did not feel like a CoHo book to me. It felt darker, messier and much more like a proper psychological thriller.

Lowen, a struggling writer, is hired to finish bestselling author Verity Crawford’s unfinished book series after an accident leaves Verity incapacitated. While going through Verity’s things, Lowen discovers a disturbing manuscript that completely changes the way she sees her, her family and everything that happened in that house.

And I was HOOKED.

It’s addictive, engrossing and gets genuinely disturbing at times, but the thing I loved most was how much it messes with your head. Even by the end, you're still questioning what actually happened, what you should believe and who is manipulating whom.

Verity herself almost feels like a ghost throughout the book. She’s there, but she’s also this constant, eerie presence hanging over Lowen and the entire house. I really loved that Rebecca-like atmosphere and how well it was executed.

And the characters? Messy. Dark. Morally grey. I loved that none of them felt particularly easy to root for. Especially Verity. And yes, I'm Team Manuscript. I genuinely believe it was the truth and that the letter was simply Verity's final attempt to manipulate the narrative.

My only complaint would be that I could have done with fewer intimate scenes, especially around the manuscript. But honestly, that didn't take away from how addictive the book was.

I flew through this one, and now I finally understand why there is a fishnet on the cover.

Five stars from me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And now I'm just waiting to watch the movie, as soon as it comes on OTT.

Have you read Verity? Are you Team Manuscript or Team Letter? 👀

Some ghosts don't need to haunt you. You carry them with you.

At first, Soldier’s Joy by M. F. Jones (Book II of The Sentinel Heart Trilogy) looks like a supernatural story. Avery Gowan has just returned from Iraq when a ghost who looks disturbingly like him appears and tells him that Jessie Gibbs may be the person who can help him confront the guilt he carries from a mission that cost the lives of three of his friends.

But the deeper I got into the story, the more I felt that the ghost was almost a bridge between two very different kinds of trauma.

Avery is dealing with the aftermath of war, while the story also takes us back to Lemuel Sanders, a Civil War soldier whose unmarked grave Jessie helped identify more than a century after his death. I really liked how the novel brings these two soldiers together across time and uses that connection to explore memory, guilt, grief and, ultimately, healing.

The supernatural element is important, but the heart of the book lies in its characters — Avery and Jessie, their relationship, their families, their secrets and the difficult process of learning how to live with what has happened to them.

If you enjoy historical fiction blended with paranormal elements, emotionally driven stories, and characters dealing with grief, guilt and healing, Soldier’s Joy is definitely one to add to your reading list.

Thank you to @lauren.ireadbooktours @ireadbooktours for having me on this book tour 🤍

Meera is in her fifties, has a stable job, lives alone, follows a routine—and yet, she has quietly grown tired of living. After a medical diagnosis, the story follows her through 21 days and a day more, as she moves through ordinary life while confronting a very difficult question: what makes life worth continuing?

I loved how quietly this book approaches something so heavy. There are no dramatic twists or constant action. Instead, we see the mundane and slowly understand that someone’s outwardly ordinary life can hold an immense amount of pain.

Meera’s conversations through Sambhashana, especially with Miriam, add another layer to this. Different people can be struggling with completely different things, even when their lives look perfectly fine from the outside.

The writing is quiet, introspective and unsentimental, and I really appreciated that. And the ending stayed with me the most.

If you enjoy quiet, realistic and introspective reads where not much happens externally but a LOT happens internally, Parts of Living is definitely worth picking up.

Especially this month 🤍
