The story of Malaysia 🇲🇾 ~ through my lens.Some places don’t need fancy renovations to win your heart. They simply let time do the talking.Many old kopitiams (coffee shop) have quietly witnessed generations of regulars, from grandparents reading the morning newspaper over kopi, to friends catching up over toast, half-boiled eggs, a bowl of hot noodles. The seasoned tables, faded walls, vintage tiles, and the familiar aroma of coffee tell stories that no modern cafe can replace.In a world where modern cafe come and go, old kopitiams like this remain timeless. The Story of Malaysia 🇲🇾 ~ through my lens In Malaysia, the coconut is a true symbol of sustainability. Its journey doesn’t end after the fruit is harvested.The fresh coconut quenches our thirst, while the flesh of the matured coconuts are pressed into rich santan (coconut milk) the heart of many Malaysian favourites like nasi lemak, rendang, curry and all kinds of desserts.Even after the milk is extracted, nothing goes to waste. The leftover pulp becomes animal feed or compost, the the hard shell is transformed into charcoal before becoming activated carbon used in water filters and many industrial applications.From our kitchens to modern industries, every part of the coconut finds a purpose ~ a timeless reminder that nature offers abundance when nothing is wasted. 🌴♻️Mr. Vellu (last picture) and his team collect approximately 3 tonnes of dried coconut shells from the Seremban wet market every day. The shells are then transported to manufacturers in the Kuala Selangor and Banting areas, selling them at RM2.40 per kg, and where these coconut shells begin their next journey, being transformed into activated carbon. #malaysiastreetphotography #streetphoto_asia #insearchofmalaysia #fujistreetphotography #lensculture_streets by @ann_bw

My childhood taste ❣️Sometimes, the best food discoveries happen by accident. This little hawker stall in Penang caught my attention because of a long queue. Curious enough, I joined the line and was rewarded with a plate of authentic Teochew Braised Delights.The braised platter was incredibly satisfying, and I would say it came 95% close to my late grandma’s recipe. There was a wonderful selection of braised favourites: chicken feet, pork belly, braised eggs, and tofu. Every ingredient was braised to perfection, with a beautifully balanced sauce that was savoury with just the right touch of sweetness. I have yet to come across a version in the Klang Valley that captures this same flavour.What made this meal even more special was childhood memories it brought back. During festive celebrations, my grandma would spend hours tending a slow wood fire, patiently braising ducks, chickens, chicken feet, eggs, and tofu. The soul of the dish was always the rich, aromatic braising sauce. The meats became tender & juicy and every spoonful of that sauce over a bowl of hot steamed rice was pure comfort.Sadly, her recipe was never passed down to the next generation. The two lanterns hanging at the market immediately caught my attention as I walked by. What surprised me even more was how quiet the market was - a scene contrast to the lively and bustling wet markets we often see elsewhere.As I wandered through the aisles, I noticed several workers from different stalls busy peeling prawns. Curious, I asked why. The Story of Malaysia 🇲🇾 ~ through my lens.Lebuh Chulia aka Chulia Street is where George Town’s past and present meet. Beneath rows of century old shophouses, the rhythms of daily life unfold ~ hawkers preparing their evening fare and travelers discovering the stories hidden within every five-foot way. Rich in history and alive with culture, Lebuh Chulia remains one of Penang’s most captivating heritage streets.For me, as a poor navigator, this street is my guiding element when wondering around the heritage city; it serves as a divider between both the far end glamorous & charming Eastern & Oriental Hotel and the down to earth Chan Jetty, and this allows me to gauge where am I heading to 👣👣#penangheritage #malaysiastreetphotography #lensculture_streets #street_incity #fujistreetphotography by @ann_bw
