JUJUNANA is a Brooklyn-based emerging choreographic duo working at the intersection of contemporary dance and performance art. JUJUNANA is the shared alter ego of performers Anna Hershinow and Julia Asher. Julia and Anna first connected over their shared experiences as freelance performers. Their collaboration was sparked by a new desire to reclaim creative autonomy. With backgrounds in a variety of artistic disciplines, including movement, visual art, and filmmaking, their work often experiments with mediums that distort our understanding of the human body. To them, the body is not just a vessel for movement, but a site of imagination—holding multiplicities, refusing definition, forever slipping between unpredictable forms. As a duo, they are interested in favoring sensation over narrative resolution, leaving behind experiences that live in the body: visceral encounters that unsettle, provoke, and spark recognition.

Their latest duet, Last 2 Brain Cells, has performed across New York and Europe, premiering at the Re/Venue Festival at Mark Morris Dance Center in late 2025 before being presented at Arts On Site and THAT SHOW in 2026. Following its performance at Arts On Site, the work was reviewed by The Dance Enthusiast. In July 2026, JUJUNANA made its European debut with a performance at Mahalla in Berlin. They are currently continuing their choreographic development and the larger mythology of JUJUNANA through the LiftOff Residency at New Dance Alliance in 2027. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @anna.hershinow

LAST 2 BRAIN CELLS

A simple, strange idea became a duet.
The duet became a world.
And somehow, that world took us from New York to Berlin.

Over the last year, we’ve poured ourselves into every corner of this work: building its movement language, crafting its costumes, refining its rhythm, and returning to the studio again and again to ask what else this little universe could become. It’s been a labor of obsession, trust, curiosity, and play. And out of this work, JUJUNANA was born.

Last month we had the privilege of performing the work in Berlin, alongside local collective, Boneless Light Berlin, after sharing it with audiences across New York City. We don’t take that for granted. The fact that something we imagined together has carried us across an ocean is both surreal and deeply affirming.

Making art can feel like shouting into the void, so every audience that has laughed, leaned in, connected with the work, or shared kind words has helped remind us why we keep doing it. This project has fed us creatively in ways we never expected, and we’re incredibly grateful for the generous reception this piece has received, and for everyone who has made space for it along the way. We feel incredibly lucky that our art continues to carry us into new places, new communities, and new conversations.

We’re currently looking for opportunities to present the full-length work in NYC and across the States. If you know of any festivals, presenters, or venues that might be a good fit, or if you’d like to bring this work into your space, we’d love to connect.

We could not be more excited to present Last 2 Brain Cells THIS Saturday at MaHalla in Berlin at 17:30.

This show is produced by local Berlin collective, @bonelesslight_berlin , and we’re so happy to share a stage with them. There’s a bar, DJs, something will be set on fire, and some dancing too.
