The club isn’t the best place to find a lover, so the Bar is where I go.

To the woman for all seasons, you are the strongest person I know. I’m constantly amazed by the way you light up every room you walk in and succeed in everything you touch. I’m better because of you, and I couldn’t be happier to take on this life with you.

Blessed the husband of a good wife, twice-lengthened are his days; A worthy wife brings joy to her husband, peaceful and full is his life. A good wife is a generous gift bestowed upon him who fears the Lord. Be he rich or poor, his heart is content, and a smile is ever on his face, A gracious wife delights her husband, her thoughtfulness puts flesh on his bones; A gift from the Lord is her governed speech, and her firm virtue is of surpassing worth. Choicest of blessings is a modest wife, priceless her chaste soul. A holy and decent woman adds grace upon grace; indeed, no price is worthy of her temperate soul. Like the sun rising in the Lord’s heavens, the beauty of a virtuous wife is the radiance of her home

when we first started getting to know one another in June 2019, you texted me:
-
“He is, and He will continue to get the glory, there’s no question. The enemy is furious that we’ve been put into each other’s lives, and the ceiling for what we have the ability in front of us to do!”
-
My husband. My very very best friend. My teammate. My prayer warrior. The leader of our household. The rock of our family. You have pointed me to Jesus since the very first moment we met. Through every new chapter — the tough & rewarding — you are always directing my gaze to our Heavenly Father. In your work, your life, your friendships, your habits..He is always given the glory. And, the enemy is still furious. AND…we are just getting started.

30 years of the one who gives me butterflies!!!

Today the world celebrates the man that I get to celebrate daily — a man after St. Joseph’s own heart—steadfast, faithful, hidden from the eyes of the world……but seen entirely by the heart of God.

Joseph often walked and worked in silence more than speech, in sacrifice more than display. I see this in you daily. You sacrificially labor for our family, but even more with your heart—intentionally carving out a life of peace, protection, and holy order for our family.
•
You love even in the smallest of moments, making even the most mundane, exciting. The tender truths, steady work, patient silence, and laughter that warms the ordinary hours of our home. Like Joseph guarded the Holy Family, you guard our marriage—with prayer, with patience, and with a heart turned always toward Heaven.

Our sweet St. Thérèse said, “Love feeds on sacrifice,”—and in your life, I see that truth unfold in the most beautiful, unseen ways. Your leadership is gentle yet honest, your joy is steady, your strength is rooted in something eternal. Something this world will never understand.

I thank the Lord for the man you are—my husband, my refuge, my daily reminder that sanctity and sacrifice often wear the face of the ordinary. But that is the very thing that makes it unbelievably extraordinary.

Happy 30th birthday to the best part of my heart. May the next decades be filled with the quiet glory of a man who walks with God. 🤍 by @anna.j.sherman

ten months of answered prayers. a dream life with you, james thomas!!!

I never knew life could be this sweet. I sometimes question how God could bless me THIS big with such a husband. even in the busiest, most drudging, season of our lives so far — life with you each day is undoubtedly an undeserved gift from Heaven.
•
I don’t give this little app as much as attention as I have in the past, but for anyone reading and anyone called to the vocation of marriage: it is a journey God desires to meet you in each moment.
•
God uses your vocation, more than almost anything else, to form you, shape you, mold you, sanctify you. Jesus wants to meet you in the chapel, in the sacraments… in your prayers. But Jesus ALSO desires to meet you in your vocation—whether that’s singleness, religious life, marriage — with your spouse and children. It is the main instrument Jesus uses to draw your attention to your imperfections, work on your weaknesses and sins, and invite you to grow in virtue. It is the setting in which Jesus calls you to be healed of your wounds and makes you whole. Most of all, it is a place He sanctifies you, calling you to love as He loves.

Lenten Reflection 28/40

Love was never meant to be just two people trying to make each other enough.

Venerable Fulton Sheen said it best:

“It takes three to make love, not two: you, your spouse, and God… Without a central loyalty, life is unfinished.”

That’s without a doubt the truth.

When God is at the center, love faces outwards toward the other. Sacrifice replaces expectation.

“How can one love self without being selfish? How can one love others without losing self? The answer is: By loving both self and neighbor in God. It is His Love that makes us love both self and neighbor rightly.”

Real love doesn’t start with each other; it starts with Him.

Lenten Reflection 12/40

What if the place you’re trying to escape is exactly where God is forming you?

When trouble hits, our instinct is to control it, fix it, escape it. But faith truly requires a different posture.

Every surrender has two movements: letting go and leaning in.

Letting go of control, the outcome, and expectations.

Leaning into what God - who calls us His sons and daughters - is doing right now.

When we’re in times that require surrender, I’ve found the following to be a great foundation to remind me whose I am.

First — He brought me here.
By His will I am in this place, and in that will, I rest.

Next — He will keep me.
In His love, giving me grace to live as His child in the middle of it.

Then — He will use it.
Teaching what needs to be learned, forming the grace He intends.

And last — He will bring me out.
In His time. In His way.

So the prayer becomes simple:

I am here.
By God’s appointment.
In God’s keeping.
Under His training.
For His time.
