Thank you all for the opening yesterday, what a night! And thanks a million to Marianne Heier who made it so very special, and to @bingolelmas for entrusting us with her poignant film My Letter To Pippa, presented as part of the exhibition.

I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead — Final week

I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead functions as a shared inquiry into the foundations of communal life, exploring how the festive operates as a site of resistance and a vital infrastructure for survival. It is a continuation and expansion of the investigation into the politics of the party, first initiated with the exhibition Lost Vessel at Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus in 2024. At skēnē, Beatrice Gibson’s work is positioned in dialogue with Centrum för kritiska fritidsstudier, making room for the personal, the political, and the historical to intersect through sound, ritual, and movement. In a present marked by increasing upheaval, how do we reclaim the spaces and rhythms necessary for collective joy and organisation?

Central to this exploration is Gibson’s film I Hope I’m Loud When I’m Dead (2018). Created in a time of profound global instability, the work moves through the wreckage of the recent past: from the Mediterranean migration crisis to the fire at Grenfell Tower in London, while remaining anchored in the intimate safety of the home. Guided by the transgressive spirit of Pauline Oliveros, Gibson’s lens searches for a way to inhabit a world that is both porous and defiant. Developed with poets CAConrad and Eileen Myles, the work treats empathy as a way of navigation, suggesting that when the structures of authority fail, we must turn our attention towards the lyrical and the relational in order to find our way through the smoke. …

Anna Zingmark är den andra konstnären som medverkar i Prima Vara. Hon är en Malmöbaserad konstnär vars praktik rör sig i spänningsfältet mellan rituella rum och politisk ekologi. Genom skulptur, installation och performance undersöker hon hur flockar och hierarkier kan kalibreras om i mötet med sin omvärld. Ur teoretisk research växer verk fram som repliker på frågor om makt, utvinning och materiell agens. Med hjälp av sakrala verktyg, såsom liturgi, mässande och meditation, närmar hon sig frågor om spiritualitet och självoptimering som samtida marknadsstyrda system, och undersöker den sårbarhet som uppstår mellan människa och materia. 
Zingmark innehar en masterexamen i fri konst från Umeå Konsthögskola (2023) och en kandidatexamen från HDK-Valand (2021). Hon har ställt ut på institutioner och gallerier som Bildmuseet i Umeå, GSA Gallery i Stockholm, Konstfrämjandet Skåne i Malmö samt 3:e Våningen, Konstepidemin och Galleri 54 i Göteborg.

Zooming in on Parafras på Roglösa, on view right now as part of Prima Vara at @verkstadkonsthall, till 03.05!

Juice of black mulberries from Alvastra Monastery ruins, silicone, steel, and aluminum.

The work moves along a timeline stretching from medieval monasticism to the extractive industries of our time. Fragments of lost structures materialise; from the mighty 13th-century gate of Rogslösa Church, contemporary with the Cistercian monastery in Alvastra, to the failed mulberry plantations initiated in Omberg by Jakob Berzelius in the 19th century. At the interface of the industrial, the spiritual, and the biological, the sculptural interventions form new, circulating cycles. Encapsulated within silicone, the mulberry juice slowly oxidises and migrates, inviting the visitor to encounter the sculptures in a state of constant, temporal flux throughout the exhibition. by @anna.zingmark
