Co-leads, Chris Bingham and Anna Blight run four busy free bookcases in Pontefract and Knottingley. The first little free library, Banks Avenue Little Free Library, was set up four years ago in the summer of 2020 lockdown. It started with a few boxes of books on Anna's garden wall as a response to libraries and book shops being closed and has grown to what it is today. They said: "One of the best conversations we have with adults, is that they've been inspired to choose a few books from a bookcase or at a pop-up, as they're free and there's no pressure to finish and return them, so they've read their first book since leaving school.ā€ They have also saved hundreds of old reading scheme books from being thrown into skips and have shared these with local families. #Pontefract #PontefractReads #Wakefield #LoveWhereYouLive #LoveWhereYouLiveAwards #VoteForUs #Community #Books #Literacy #Volunteers #VoluntarySector taken in Pontefract by @anna_reads_avidly

I was cool in 2006. I entered the Discworld Convention Gala Dinner with Terry Pratchett. I used to socialise and go to cool places. He is my most favourite author ever, and always will be. #TerryPratchettDay #TerryPratchett #GNUTerryPratchett by @anna_reads_avidly

We spent #WorldMentalHealthDay at Potteric Carr nature reserve for Fungi Fest. We looked at fungi, talked about fungi, admired fungi items in the shop, rounded off by a fab lunch at the cafeĢ with a good book. "What I believe Shakespeare cared about was transmitting the raw stuff of human experience into people's hearts, through the powerful technology of words." The Book Fairies are sharing copies of this wonderful little book Shakespeareā€™s Heartbeat by Sofia Barclay across the UK today! In it, Sofia celebrates the sonnets by prescribing them to events and emotions that everyone goes through :) Who shall be lucky enough to spot one at Bridlington harbour? About the book: What if Shakespeare understood you better than you understand yourself? In Shakespeareā€™s Heartbeat, actor Sofia Barclay examines 40 of Shakespeareā€™s most powerful sonnets as emotional guideposts for modern life. Blending personal insight with timeless poetry, she transforms these works into everyday tools for navigating love, heartbreak, desire and uncertainty. Each sonnet is paired with her own original commentary: making them feel personal, immediate and unexpectedly relevant. Whether you are falling in love, falling apart, or simply trying to understand yourself, this audiobook offers clarity, comfort and connection through Shakespeareā€™s words. Part guide, part companion, Shakespeareā€™s Heartbeat meets you exactly where you areā€”reminding you that no feeling, however overwhelming, needs to be faced alone. #iBelieveinBookFairies #TBFHeartbeat #ShakespearesHeartbeat #SofiaBarclay #Shakespeare taken in Bridlington Harbour by @anna_reads_avidly

"Actually I come from Stockport." The Book Fairies are sharing several copies of The Proof of My Innocence by Jonathan Coe. Who will be lucky enough to spot a copy at Harrogate Crime Festival? About the book: Post-university life doesnā€™t suit Phyl. Time passes slowly living back home with her parents, working a zero-hour contract serving Japanese food to holidaymakers at Heathrowā€™s Terminal 5. As for her budding plans of becoming a writer, those are going nowhere. That is, until family friend Chris comes to stay. Heā€™s been on the path to uncover a sinister think-tank, founded at Cambridge University in the 1980s, thatā€™s been scheming to push the British government in a more extreme direction. One thatā€™s finally poised to put their plans into action. But speaking truth to power can be dangerous - and power will stop at nothing to stay on top. As Britain finds itself under the leadership of a new Prime Minister whose tenure will only last for seven weeks, Chris pursues his story to a conference being held deep in the Cotswolds, where events take a sinister turn and a murder inquiry is soon in progress. But will the solution to the mystery lie in contemporary politics, or in a literary enigma that is almost forty years old? #iBelieveinBookFairies #TBFInnocence #TBFPenguin #TheProofOfMyInnocence #JonathanCoe taken in The Old Swan Hotel Harrogate by @anna_reads_avidly

"Iggy Pop has deer energy I reckon." The Book Fairies are marking the final day of #IndieBookWeek by sharing copies of Everything Will Swallow You by Tom Cox across the UK today! Who will be lucky enough to spot one at Proms at the Castle at Pontefract Castle? If not, you can find this book in your local indie bookshop! About the book: Eric and Carl live in Dorset in a small white cottage under the shadow of a big cliff. Eric sells old records and antiques. Carl cooks, cleans and crochets. Nearing seventy, Eric is a lifelong accumulator of obscure objects whose easygoing, chaotic approach to life masks some of the unaddressed sadness of his past. The significantly younger Carl is an old soul who has a sophisticated emotional intelligence and likes swimming, mid-century female novelists, fibre arts and Dolly Parton. If you passed them on a walk, you may not pay them much attention. Most likely you would see Carlā€™s long floppy ears, tail and fur and mistake him for a dog. The story of Eric and Carl's friendship spans twenty-one years: a constant anchor in a changing world. During that time they adopt an eccentric, unlikely gang of fellow travellers. Their wanderings through South West England unfold against a backdrop of lived, local folklore and hints at future apocalypse. All the while, Carl's true nature remains a closely guarded secret. #iBelieveinBookFairies #TBFSwallow #TBFSwiftPress #TomCox taken in Pontefract Castle by @anna_reads_avidly
