Courage

I used to think of courage as those like Joan of ark, the ones that stare death in the face, and roar as though fear has never swept through their hallows. But, today, I felt the song and eruption of a new courage. One that isn’t noticed as much, but it dares to exist. How one appear to be failing on so many, yet their very existence is an act of courage. I thought about a friend who wakes up daily to difficulties that most of us couldn’t dream of, he is courage. His very fortitude to live is courage.

Courage could mean we get up today, find the strength to paint the walls of our life and start over afresh. No matter how many coats we’ve applied.

Courage can mean we wake, take a deep breath, and defy all odds as a prisoner of hope, again.

Courage could mean that we stand, though our knees are knocking in terror, we stand.

Wherever life may find you today, I pray you find courage. Courage in the mundane. Courage in the dark. Courage in the chaos. Courage because life is rare and so profoundly beautiful. May we be like the butterfly, shedding the cocoon of what was before, and embracing the risk to discover the newness of our wings. by @annaasburyart

A few weeks ago, I opened my journal and the only thing I could get out was:
HELP!
That was it.
Cory was on tour, I was home with all the kids, and I was just completely overwhelmed. I was exhausted, and honestly, even reading my Bible or writing in my journal felt like work.
So I just wrote help.
And I’ve been thinking about that little prayer ever since.
Sometimes I think we make prayer way more complicated than it needs to be. We think we need the right words or a quiet house or some beautiful revelation.
But sometimes all you have is:
“Father, help me.”
And that is a prayer.
Psalm 18:6 says, “In my distress I called upon the LORD… I cried for help… and my cry to him reached his ears.”
He heard.
And I love thinking about it like this: when your child cries “Help!”, you don’t stand there waiting for them to put together a better sentence. You run. You know their voice. You know they need you.
How much more our Abba?
Sometimes “help” is the most honest, real prayer we can pray.
It’s surrender. It’s dependence. It’s a child saying, “I need You.”
I think that’s what it’s all about. Dependence on Jesus. We were never made to outgrow our need for Him. Spiritual maturity isn’t needing Him less—it’s realizing more and more that we need Him for everything.
So to the mom, dad, single man or woman, or anyone who feels completely buried by life today…
If all you can pray is help, pray it.
He hears you.
And He moves toward His children’s cries. by @annaasburyart

I’ve been a little quieter here lately.
At the beginning of the summer, I had plans. I imagined more mornings in my studio, more paintings coming to life, and I truly hoped my devotional would be finished by now.
Instead, this month looked different.
With Cory on tour, my days became full in a different way. More car rides. More bedtime conversations. More little hands reaching for mine. More moments that reminded me these years are fleeting.
I’ve only painted a couple of times.
For a moment, I wondered if I was falling behind.
But I’m learning that sometimes faithfulness doesn’t look like checking every box we set for ourselves. Sometimes it looks like saying yes to the people God has placed right in front of us.
The beautiful (and sometimes messy) thing about being both an artist and a mother is that the two are never really separate. Motherhood doesn’t steal my creativity—it deepens it. The interruptions, the laughter, the ordinary moments... they’re becoming part of the story I’m trying to tell with every brushstroke.
I’ve stopped believing that every season has to produce something visible.
Some seasons are for creating.
Some seasons are for gathering.
And maybe gathering is creating, too.
So if you’ve been waiting for new paintings or my devotional, thank you for your grace. They’ll come.
For now, I’m trusting that nothing God grows in us is ever wasted—not the quiet, not the waiting, not the dreams that take a little longer than we hoped.
Maybe you’ve been feeling behind, too.
If so, I hope this reminds you that your worth isn’t measured by your productivity. Some of the most meaningful work we’re doing will never fit on a résumé or a timeline.
Here’s to believing that God is still writing something beautiful, even in the slower seasons. 🤍 by @annaasburyart

Dear Beautiful Mother,
Today you are seen, though you may feel so hidden. Your dreams and aspirations are not forgotten. Every single little groan and tear, Jesus has caught and cherished forever in a bottle He keeps. You are precious to Him. Your beauty is astounding. Though it may feel as if you’ve lost your first love in Jesus, he wants to remind you today that every little whisper, sigh, & tiny reach matters to Him and counts. He knows you’re tired, He knows you’re lonely, and He is there. In every in between moment, in the rising from your bed, and the swaying beside a crib. He’s there sweet one. You are His, and you move His heart. Your life has so much purpose. You are changing more than you could ever imagine. Your love for your children counts as worship and love for Him today. Don’t give up. Your life is beautiful, so very beautiful. What you are doing is holy, and it will change the world. Original artwork available on website by @annaasburyart

This collection came from a year of choosing to paint every single day in the middle of real life. Not a quiet, perfect artist life — but motherhood, laundry, dinners, kids needing me every five seconds, a husband on the road, exhaustion, beauty, prayer, and trying to love Jesus well in the middle of ordinary days.
And somehow, in all of that, God kept meeting me at the table with paint and paper.
These originals feel like pieces of my heart. I can honestly see the transformation that happened in me through making them. They remind me that beauty can grow in the mundane… that faithfulness matters… that small daily offerings become something meaningful over time.
Every piece is one of a kind, and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.
I think what I hope most is that when someone hangs one in their home, they don’t just see artwork. I hope they feel peace. Hope. Light. Warmth. I hope they feel deeply loved
Thank you for caring about my work and this little journey so deeply. It means more than I could ever explain. by @annaasburyart

I am seen… even when I don’t feel it.
I am loved… even when I don’t feel it.
I am accepted… even when I don’t feel it.
I am brave… even when I don’t feel it.
I belong… even when I don’t feel it.
Feelings can be so loud, but they aren’t always true.
They rise and fall—like a Ferris wheel.
One moment you’re up high, the next you’re low…
This chapter feels quiet… but full.
God is doing that deep, hidden work in me again—
the kind that doesn’t need to be seen to be real.
A steady preparing. A gentle strengthening. A drawing closer.
As I step into 40 this next week, it feels sacred to me.
Not like an ending—but like a crossing.
A deeper settling into who God has been forming all along.
Less striving, more knowing.
Less noise, more peace.
A quiet confidence that He has been faithful in every single season… and He will continue to be.
I find myself thankful.
For the highs and the lows.
The stretching, the joy, the hidden seasons, the becoming.
All of it counts. None of it is wasted.
I am not behind.
And neither are you, dear friend.
You are held—right in the palm of His hand.
Not rushed. Not forgotten. Not overlooked.
Just being lovingly made ready… for such a time as this.
If this little corner of the internet can offer anything today,
I hope it’s this:
we are always growing, always becoming, always being led…
even when it doesn’t feel like it.

For a while now, I’ve been quietly building something with dear friends… and it feels a little surreal to finally say - It’s ready.

On May 1, my website will open its doors.

This space holds pieces of my heart - artwork, writings, songs, and more.

Things I’ve created with the hope that they might bring a little more light, life, and joy to whoever finds them. To children and grown-ups alike.

What’s most special to me is that this dream found me in an unexpected season. I was 27, deep in the beautiful, exhausting rhythm of motherhood, and I thought I had already uncovered all the gifts I’d been given. But God had more.
Isn’t that just like Him?

We are always growing. Always discovering. Always being gently shaped and made more like Jesus.

This little corner of the internet is a window into my life - as a daughter, a wife, a mother, and a friend. My hope is that when you step inside, it feels like you’ve pulled up a chair at my table… coffee in hand… lingering a little longer than you planned.

There will be original artwork available, along with prints you can bring into your own home. And soon, a few more things I’ve been quietly laboring over… including something that just might be my very first book 🤍

So on May 1, come by…Step onto the porch, peek through the doorway, and stay awhile.

I would love nothing more than to have you there to celebrate with me.

Much love dear friends,
