On November 10th, 2022, Malibu passed away in a horrific barn fire.
.
I went to the barn and rode the night before, and we had the best ride we'd ever had. This is the last picture and video I have of her. We had a wonderful ride, she had a good roll, and of course we finished off with a long graze. She was very quickly becoming my do-anything, all-around horse. The next morning I found out through a friend that she was gone, and she took a huge piece of my heart with her.

I do not know how the fire started or what caused it, and I have not been contacted by any barn personnel about anything whatsoever. There was absolutely nothing left, and any remains were gotten rid of almost immediately. To say that I am furious is an understatement. When I locked her in that stall the night prior, I thought that was the safest place for her. I hope and pray that it was quick, and I hope that she kicked and fought like never before.

I never planned to sell her. I planned to have Malibu for the rest of her years. I'd hoped to play, train, and learn from her for the next ~10+ years, and then I had hoped she would retire to teach the next generation in the family. I wanted to try so many things with her, and I had plans to take pictures with her this winter and put her on next year's Christmas cards. I'd just started teaching her how to drive and pull things, and the goal was to go sledding with her when it snowed. She was always kind enough to put up with my antics, and she was so tolerant towards anyone new that I put on her. Malibu taught me more than any other horse I've ever been around. She got me out of the house, she always made me smile, and I loved spoiling her. She'll always have a special place in my heart. I love you, Malibu.
