Eight months ago, I was told I would be in pain the rest of my life, I wouldn’t touch a volleyball again, and there was not a doctor who would treat me because my injury was uncommon for people my age.

As months went on, I slowly lost strength. My legs were getting weaker by the day, and the constant pain was absolutely draining. My mom worked so hard to find the best doctors who were familiar with my injury.

The first time I went to Texas Children’s Hospital, I was relieved. The doctors there wanted to help me. Since conservative treatments weren’t helping, surgery was scheduled for April 8th. On March 30th, I left school early because of severe pain and trouble walking. I had no idea that would be my last day at school for the rest of the year.

The next morning, I was brought to the ER when I couldn’t lift my foot and could not walk on my own. I had back surgery on April 3rd. I was on the right track and got discharged, but one week later, symptoms came back and my ability to walk was completely gone. I needed a second major surgery due to a spontaneous recurrence, which happens to less than 5% of people. This time it was an open back surgery, where the disks along my spine were scraped off my nerves, leading to significant nerve damage. After my first surgery, I left with a walker, but after the second, I had to use a wheelchair. I didn’t know if I would ever get out of that chair.

After over 55 PT appointments and hours of work outside of them, I am now walking. Praise God! This has been such a huge step in my recovery! I still have some numbness and nerve damage, but I work hard, really hard, and I know that God will heal me. I am so grateful for the people at TCH!
I am thankful for everyone who has prayed for me and believed that I would be able to walk again.

I love to think that maybe one day I will fully be back on the court, but even if not, I cherish the time I did have getting to play volleyball, especially with my big sister! I will still be a part of the LSA volleyball team, cheering on my friends.

I have so much more healing ahead of me, but I know with each day and continued PT, I am closer to being fully healed. ❤️❤️❤️ taken in Texas Children's Hospital by @annagblanchard

Sadly, I am having back surgery again this Wednesday.
Isaiah 41:10-“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”
Please keep me in your prayers!!!❤️ by @annagblanchard
