POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It felt like the right moment to reintroduce myself and the studio, particularly after a quieter period on Instagram while I’ve been busy working on several projects that I’m very much looking forward to sharing soon.

For those who are new, I’m Anna, founder of Anna Hewitson Design. My work is rooted in English country interiors, balancing contemporary and traditional design to create calm, layered spaces that feel comfortable and easy to live in.

I’ll be sharing more of the homes I design here, along with the ideas, materials and references that shape them. Thank you for being here.

The best seat in the house, according to Plum anyway.

A cosy reading nook just off the kitchen, with bespoke seating and layers of pattern that give this little corner its own character.

Before and after.

A sitting room transformed through colour, pattern, considered furniture and layers of fabric, while working with the existing proportions and character of the room.

A good reminder that a space doesn’t always need dramatic structural change to feel completely different.

As the nights draw in, bedrooms come into their own.

A few from past projects that show how layers of fabric, pattern, texture and warmer tones can create a bedroom that feels comfortable and inviting, without losing its sense of character.

Just the sort of rooms we want to retreat to at this time of year.

Bathrooms are one of the more costly rooms to get wrong, which makes careful planning from the outset particularly important.

From lighting and storage to the smaller practical details, there’s a lot to consider beyond colours and finishes. So here are seven details we always suggest thinking about before the work begins.

“The bar at our Caribbean project, designed as an indoor-outdoor space for relaxed entertaining. Deep green glazed tiles are paired with a pale stone worktop and antiqued mirror, while the botanical mural was hand painted by a local artist.

Outdoor bar stools by @cocowolffurniture and rechargeable lights by @paolomoschinoltd complete the space. Designed for relaxed Caribbean entertaining.

Traditional British craftsmanship meets Mediterranean influences in the kitchen of our Caribbean project.

Designed and handcrafted by @dovetailkitchens_ , a family-run cabinetmaking business in Hampshire, the entirely bespoke kitchen was made in the UK before being shipped across the Atlantic.

Earthy neutrals, terracotta flooring and soft pink zellige tiles from @mosaic.factory bring warmth and texture, while the architectural arches and generous central island create a natural connection to the dining area beyond.

Finishing details include stools from @pinch_london , lighting by @visualcomforteu and brass hardware from @armacmartin .

Good lighting is integral to how a room looks and feels, and something we consider from the very beginning of a project.

A successful scheme isn’t about filling a ceiling with spotlights, but combining different sources of light to suit how a room is used throughout the day. Ambient, task and accent lighting each have a role to play, creating a space that feels both practical and atmospheric.

At the heart of our Caribbean project, the Great Room was designed for both entertaining and everyday living, with a strong connection to the tropical landscape beyond.

The room’s long, relatively narrow proportions presented an interesting design challenge. By creating distinct seating areas, we were able to make the most of the space while maintaining a natural flow between the interiors and the gardens beyond. A bespoke 9-metre rug helps bring the scheme together.

Arched openings and curved silhouettes soften the architecture, while an earthy, Mediterranean-inspired palette is layered with natural materials, woven textures and subtle touches of colour that reflect the Caribbean setting.

A particular highlight was designing the bespoke cabinet in collaboration with @alfrednewall , whose craftsmanship brought our vision to life.

Introducing Our Caribbean Project. Drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of a Tuscan villa while embracing its Caribbean surroundings, this project presented a different set of opportunities and challenges for the studio.

A complete turnkey project, encompassing everything from bespoke furniture and joinery to the finer decorative details, with much of the furniture and all of the joinery made and sourced in the UK.

Working across continents, navigating international shipping and designing for a tropical climate brought a new dimension to the design process, resulting in a home rich in character, texture and understated luxury.

A little sneak peek at a bespoke headboard and bed bench we’ve been working on with @byannaelizabeth_ for one of our projects.

It’s always a delight to commission bespoke pieces for our clients, creating something entirely individual to the room and the wider scheme. Even more so when we have the pleasure of working with talented creatives like Anna, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail bring each piece so beautifully to life.

We can’t wait to see these in their finished setting.
