Hey friends! If you want to find me at #awp2026 in Baltimore, I’ll be hawking totes and journals at the @splitlipthemag table in the bookfair and presenting on archives and other ways of preserving ephemera with a ton of cool writers. Plus, Split Lip is cohosting a reading with @charmlitmag to support young writers in the city. Hope to see y’all there! taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @annaisabe

For decent life news, I’ve registered so I’m officially presenting at #awp2026 in Baltimore. I’m still thinking through my part of the panel, but I already have a lot I could cover! I’m also looking forward to eating crabs and making pilgrimages to Edgar Allan Poe and John Waters loci. 😊📕🦩 taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @annaisabe

We hosted a baby shower yesterday to celebrate the upcoming arrival of my niece in June! We ate Italian food, wrote the names we wanted the baby to call us on name tags, and explained why we picked the children’s books we brought for the shower! Thank you, Francesca’s on Chestnut for the delicious food and excellent service. Huge thanks to all the guests, Lorenz for transportation and delivery, Mom and Dad for buying flowers, Marc and Lauren for the easel and wagon, and especially Tita Claudine and Marielle. My aunt arranged the favors and flowers, which were so pretty that passersby kept complimenting them. My cousin designed the sign and invitations and came up with the name tag game. I think we’re all ready to come together for the newest Cabe-Miller! 🥰😍❤️🐣 taken in Francesca's on Chestnut by @annaisabe

Better late than never! I had a blast during our Writing Impermanence panel at #awp2026! Funny story, I was only introduced to Erica, Sean, and Bathsheba through Monica Macansantos (who was unfortunately unable to attend AWP this year), and our panel was where I literally met everyone for the first time in person. Nevertheless, I was so awed by our rich and varied approach to the topic—we spoke about experiencing, preserving, and disseminating history, of course through writing, but also through oral histories, archives, playing music, and through traversing the Alaskan wilderness, Texas cities, and early Twitter and Tumblr. It was an invigorating conversation, and I’m glad to have met them all! P.S. Shoutout to Wendy for the photos! taken in Baltimore Convention Center by @annaisabe

Day 1 of AWP in Baltimore—Went to panels on editing literary translations and writing pop culture in poetry, wandered around and ran into friends and colleagues, picked up some books and swag, ate and drank croissants, a banana bread latte, charbroiled oysters, a French Quarter Storm, and potatoes with Old Bay, and listened to a ton of incredible writers at a reading cohosted by @splitlipthemag and @charmlitmag. #awp #awp2026 #awpbaltimore taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @annaisabe

The best way, I think, to consider a year like 2025, which was demoralizing in so many ways, is to think of what I’m grateful for. And so, I’m grateful to have finished out a good year teaching in Corpus Christi, where I met a truly wonderful group of people, who taught me so much about teaching, writing, and the Coastal Bend. Thank you for showing me the numerous, strange birds and marine life who exist there, what it means to order a “dressed” Corona, and what kinds of friends will go with you to three locations to drop off your Internet equipment (❤️ @hail_rose_hanks). I’m grateful that despite the frustrating slog of the creative life, especially in an environment frequently hostile to the arts, that people recognize my work as an editor and writer and teacher. I’m happy to have taught so many eager writing and literature students, ushered in so many brilliant stories at @splitlipthemag , presented at my first AWP panel in LA, published in an Edgar Allan Poe anthology, and won a flash contest. I’m grateful that I found a new country to love, Portugal, full of food and wine and fado and beauty. I’m grateful for my family, to have witnessed my sister @pauline.cabe’s wedding and to learn that in 2026, I’m going to be a proper tita. I’m grateful I had another year of cooking and eating delicious food and drinks and making and experiencing art. Even when it seemed like the world is full of nothing but horrors, it’s good to remember that among all that, there was beauty and goodness and life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (And Chicago friends! I just moved back. Let’s hang out! ❤️❤️❤️) by @annaisabe
