Hey so this is my first project of Sophomore year! The Peelamid! Our assignment was to make a table lamp with at least one cast piece and one Vacuformed piece! The first video is it complete, the rest of the photos/ videos are how I made it!

So I realized I never posted any of my projects from last year? That's going to change! In case you don't know, I'm an Industrial Design major at the Hines College of Architecture and Design at UH! This project was very challenging bc I had a completely different design, that was all lined up to be completed, when I found out that my material that I had ordered never shipped (even tho the company said it had) so essentially Monday I freaked out and asked for an extension, which I was not given (bc it apparently was my fault the material didn't ship, it's fine, I'm not bitter or anything) so essentially I had to create a whole new design on Tuesday, and it had to be presentable by Friday morning. 🙃
So this is where Peelamid came from! Bc I had to rush it, I decided to have fun with it. I wanted something the user could touch, and handle, and move. For my inspiration I was looking at, and attracted to, freeform sculptures that were ribbon like and twisting, but I realized that they were actually stationary. So I decided to reverse that. What if I took a shape that looked rigid and stationary, but made it a truly free form? That's were this ironic design came in. A pyramid, or prism, something that you imagine never moving, and then add an element of movement. The movable petals are made of silicone imbedded with copper wire, with a black ABS plastic vacuformed base, and a clear frosted acrylic button (also vacuformed). The whole design is meant to invite tactile manipulation.
So yeah! All in all it turned out way better than I expected especially since I had to combine a 3 week process into 3 days.
I also want to shout out to everyone who was super kind a supportive when I was freaking out last Monday. Im grateful to a great God and great friends that helped me stay on track.

I drew an 8 bit sharpie bike tattoo on myself because I'm getting very excited for Spoke Folk!! I leave on Wednesday for a two week biking ministry tour where we put on a program for a church and then the next day we bike to another church and preform again.
