The Ratcatcher 2.0, complete with rats and magnolias for @canalrivertrust
Thank you for commissioning me to update this spot, which I first painted 8 years ago.
It is always a pleasure painting for C&R who work so hard to maintain our waterways. Birminghams canals are such a peaceful place to spend time in the summer and the perfect haven for inner city wildlife. We're truly blessed to have a vast network to enjoy in Brum.
Big thanks to all the lovely folks @centrala_space, too, for letting me store my paint while I worked x taken in Digbeth, Birmingham by @annatomix

Happy International Women's Day! I rarely post photos of me, but I'm 40 now and should probably start celebrating myself a bit.
I'm proud of what I've accomplished in life, even though i'm still a single mom and only scratching a living. I work HARD and I dont quit. I've fought tooth and nail for nearly 25 years to to stay in the creative arts and I am very very tired 😅
Still, thank you to everyone who has seen my potential and given me a chance.

So pleased to have finished these foxes for #stmodwen in #longbridge. They're sitting on a future nature / art trail that's not open yet, but I will update you all when it is.
These lads are all around 15ft tall and painted on some of the wettest brickwork I've ever had the pleasure of tackling. And that's why this job took weeks 😅

Annatomix @annatomix - Anna's from Halesowen and her distinctive painted murals, figures from the natural world depicted in geometric form, can be seen all over Brum and the West Mids. One of her @Newurbanera fox murals is near to my house, and I’m lucky to see it every day with my kids as we wander past it (slowly) on the way to school.

I photographed Anna in one of the huge teaching rooms at BCU's @steamhouse_uk, where she was in the later stage of her Arts Council DYCP work.

She's wearing one of the respirators that she uses whilst painting her work. It felt like an important part of her creative identity - a visual symbol of the immense physical commitment and dedication that’s involved in the completion of each and every magnificent mural.

After the sitting, we spent the rest of the afternoon in STEAMhouse’s cafe talking about our favourite movies. Following the dry summer the weather had finally broken and it was pouring outside. The cafe closed around us but we kept on chatting for hours about 2001, Blade Runner… We discovered a shared obsession with Moon and @darrenaronofsky’s The Fountain, and in particular their scores… both by @i_was_a_teenage_clint_mansell (like Anna, also from the Black Country) and both on permanent loop… for both of us.

It was a real, rare and total pleasure to spend ages jabbering endlessly about movies and cinematography with Anna, who it turns out is easily as entirely nerdy and passionate about them as I am. What a wonderful afternoon, Cheers Anna!

All of these and a load more - trying to ride out the last month of my DYCP schedule before I can get back to focusing on new work 😅

It's been a strange year of learning as much as possible while living as frugally as I can. Exciting and stressful in equal measure, but I'm really looking forward to what comes next ❤️‍🔥

I've been wanting to make my work truly 3D as long as I've been making it, and I've wanted to try my hand at metal work since I was a teenager.
Yesterday, I got to do both!

Master of his craft, Black Country legend and all-round lovely human @lukeperrysculptor was kind enough to share his time and expertise for my DYCP activities, and together we managed to create this sculpture at his workshop in just a day.
I'm in awe of it, and so incredibly grateful to Luke for showing me how it's done and putting in the effort to help bring my design to life in steel.

I can't lie, I was anxious about the methods involved. Luke did all the plasma cutting because I didn't want to run the risk of trashing his tools, but I did try my hand at welding and making fireworks with the angle grinder, and importantly, I learned how to use the equipment safely. Dont get burned, dont blind myself, and dont damage my ears more than I already have. Did end the day looking like a stupendously happy coal miner.

Now I have even more kit to add to the long list of power tools I wish I owned, and I hope sometime in the future I can really learn how to weld properly. That is definitely not a skill you pick up in a day.

Do check out Luke's spectacular work. If you're local, you're bound to have already seen some of it. Turns out, we were both at the same college at the same time, but he did the right thing and completed his courses. I had a mental health crisis and dropped out, but that's a story for another time.

Any advice on where to put this hunk of heavy metal would be welcome. It's currently parked in the middle of my living room, it's nearly 3ft tall and around 10kg in weight. My vision is to see it outdoors somewhere, preferably covered in tags.
