Reflecting 🏔️

I made this inner Skjoldehamn tunic in 2021, but this is the first time I have managed to get photos of it. For some reason, all my previous attempts failed due to bad weather or me not being able to get to a good location on a day that had good weather, and at some point I decided to just wait until I made my new trousers. Feels weird to have had a garment for this long without showing off, but finally I have captured it on camera 📸

I was a bit worried that the colours of the tunic and the trousers would be too similar, but seeing them together like this, I am so relieved to say that there is a clear difference in the shade, and that they thankfully go together as well 🙌🏻

My new Skjoldehamn trousers 🧡

This is my second time making these trousers, and it is a lot of fun to see how much I have evolved since I made my first pair in 2020.

I chose a lighter fabric this time, altered the fit in the waist, and did more research on the details. The trousers themselves were pretty straightforward to make, but the embroidery, the braids and the decorative thread took me hours and hours to sew 🪡🧵

The original finding also came with some woven ankle bands, and I had @oldcraftwool make me a pair of replicas years ago! We sadly do not know exactly how they were tied, as the archaeologists who recovered the Skjoldehamn bog body did not bother to record this, so this is just one attempt I did while out on location. They are a bit different from the vuoddat that I wear with my gákti, as both braids on the ends are equally as long, whereas the modern Sámi ankle bands have one short and one longer braid. Will definitely experiment a bit more with methods to tie them 🙌🏻

A little fun fact here is that I have deliberately chosen the colours of the fabrics of my Skjoldehamn interpretation to resemble leather and hide. I wanted both my inner tunic and the trousers to have a leather-like shade, and for the outer tunic to resemble a beaska, which is a traditional outer coat/tunic made of the pelts of reindeer 🦌

Skjoldehamndrakten 🍂

This has been one of my passion projects for years, and I am so happy to finally share my (almost) finished interpretation of the clothing found on the Skjoldehamn bog body 🥰

There has been a lot of debate over the years about the identity of this person, and whether or not she (recent dna tests have confirmed the body to be female) was Norse or Sámi. As I worked on this, I also started learning how to sew a Gákti (traditional Sámi clothing) from the Lyngen area, and I am actually amazed by how many similarities there are between the two. A lot of similar techniques have been used, the belts are tied the same way, and the ankle bands are very similar to the ones worn today. That being said, there is no way to know 100%, as we have nothing else from the time to compare it to, and for all we know, all people in the northern parts of Norway wore clothing like this.

What are your thoughts on this archaeological finding?

Crown braid 👑

I normally improvise my hairstyles when I braid my hair for photoshoots. While I might have an idea of what I want to do, I let my hair decide how it wants to be styled that day. For this look, I knew that I wanted a half-up, half-down style, with some sort of crown element to it. But to make it fall the way I wanted, I had to add another braid in the back to ensure the hair wouldn't part awkwardly. The "serpent braids" on the side were not planned either, but I wanted to add some extra detail and texture to the look 🐍

‼️ SHOP UPDATE ‼️

After much back-and-forth with myself, I have made the heavy decision to close my shop. While Norway has not (yet) been affected by the new EU shipping regulations, the US tariffs, fabric costs and Etsy's increasing fees are effectively killing my shop. I barely make a profit on the hoods I make, and after sending more than 180 of them out into the world, I have decided that I am done.

I started this little side-project when I was a student, as a way to fund my hobby. But now that I am working full time, and I have an ever-growing list of personal projects going, it is time for me to wrap up this chapter. Don't worry though, my instagram page isn't going anywhere 🫶🏻

There are nine hoods remaining in my stock, and so as a farewell-gift to all who has yet to snatch one of my hoods, or have been eyeing a second (or even third 👀), I am offering you all a 20% discount. But don't waig too long, as the hood will not be coming back once it is gone!

And finally, I would like to thank everyone who has purchased one of my hoods over the years! I hope you have found a warm and cozy companion in it, and that you will continue to cherish it on your future adventures 🥰

The warning 🏹

I have promised for YEARS that I would post a video of myself stringing my bow, and after watching this iconic moment in The Odyssey, I finally had an excuse to do it 🤭

Doing my best Éowyn impression beneath the mighty falls 🩵

The wind was on my side, and I just couldn't help but try and capture the vibe of that iconic moment outside of the hall of Meduseld in Two Towers 🌬️

I am a little bit obsessed with how long my hair has grown this last year. It's finally the same lenght as it was the autumn of 2019, which is the longest I ever grew it. Only this time it is natural and healthy, and hopefully it will grow even longer in the coming year 🥰

My last name means "waterfall" 🩵

I have always been fascinated by names and their meaning, especially after learning the meaning of my own!

My first name, Anne means "favour" as in "favoured by the gods" or "grace" as in "graceful" 🌿

My middle name, Ragnhild means "battle advisor" or "wise in battle" ⚔️

My second middle name, which I only added this year and is my mother's surname is Samuelsen, which means the Son of Samuel, and is a very important family name to me 🫶🏻

And my last name, Fause means "rushing river" or "waterfall" 🌊

Put it all together, and I am the graceful or favoured battle advisor, belonging to the sons of Samuel and of the waterfall 🥹

And I intend to stay this way 🫶🏻

I have known from a very young age that I never wanted kids. In recent years, I've found that I also do not wish to marry a man. I am single and happy and living my best life, and I think that is beautiful 🌸

Instagram vs reality 🪰🪰🪰

I'm recent years we have seen an insane increase in black flies here in the north during the summer. Thankfully they do not bite you, but they will get all up in your business and stay there in a swarm of hundreds, just buzzing around and driving you insane, making it a challenge to truly enjoy being out in nature 😭
