I stood before 100 years of history, it was an honor to meet you.

Bien Sen is one of the last living survivors of the Khmer Rouge, the communist regime in Cambodia that led to mass genocide in the 1970’s. She carry’s the legacy of her family on her shoulders and has lived a long life to tell their stories. taken in Phnom Penh by @annelise.stone

🚨 ASPIRING MODELS: PLS READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK ANOTHER SHOOT. 🚨

One of the first things I’d tell a new model to invest in is good digitals.

Think of your digitals as your blank canvas.

💭👩🏻‍🍳 Imagine you’re a chef choosing ingredients for a gourmet meal. You’re handed an incredible ingredient, but you’ve only ever seen it covered in sauces, spices, and prepared in completely different recipes..

How do you know if the ingredient will pair well with what else you have prepared? How will you make it shine in the dish if you don’t know what it actually tastes like on its own? 🙂

That’s what your digitals do.

They show clients, casting directors, and agencies YOU… before the styling, before the concept, before the retouching.

❌ No crazy styling
❌ No heavy makeup or retouching
❌ No distracting backgrounds
❌ No dramatic lighting
❌ No elaborate concepts

✅ Clean, Simple, & Well-lit with Minimal styling
✅ You, as you actually look

You want someone looking at your book to be able to think:
“I can see exactly how I could use this model for my concept.”

🗣️ And PLEASE don’t underestimate how much this communicates about you professionally.

Having clean, intentional digitals makes it easier to approach agencies, casting opportunities, photographers, and clients because you’re giving them exactly what they need to evaluate you.

If I were starting my modeling career tomorrow, getting proper digitals would be one of my first moves.

And if you can’t afford a professional shoot yet? Start anyway!

Have a friend take them on an iPhone. Use a simple background. Find good natural light. Follow basic posing guidelines. You can always upgrade them later.

Perfect digitals aren’t the goal. Having something useful to send is.
