I’ve learnt I HAVE to do a bit of a cook up before I work weekends otherwise I’ll just survive off patient gifted treats 😂

It also means there’s food already made for Matt to give the kids while I’m at work, so I can leave the house knowing they’re not all just living off takeaway for the weekend 😂

Nothing groundbreaking, just decent food, easy meals and obviously the dregs of the kids’ snacks thrown in !What are your prep hacks??? taken in Gold Coast, Queensland by @annelyse.o

CHECK FOR FLYING PIGS. Lyse voluntarily went for a RUN 😂

No, I was not being chased.

While I was breastfeeding I felt like my body was already doing enough, so I kept exercise pretty gentle with lots of walking and Pilates.
Now that I’ve stopped feeding I feel ready to ramp things up a bit. 2 heavier lifting days a week and apparently… running 🫠

And I cannot stress this enough, I am NOT a runner. I wasn’t a runner before Parker. I hate cardio and I especially hate being out of breath 😂
But today I ran 4km pushing a pram and didn’t die!!!

So this is your reminder that you don’t have to be good at something to start. If I can do it, you absolutely can too! by @annelyse.o

A few little things we’re trying to instil in our kids while they’re little 🤍

Most of these are things we’ve been able to put into practice with Po because she’s older, but they’re all things we’ll be teaching Parker as he grows too. Definitely not saying we have parenting figured out, just a few things that are important in our house.

1. You don’t have to like it, but you do have to try it.

I never wanted food to become a battle or force her to eat something she genuinely didn’t like, but I also didn’t want her deciding something was disgusting before she’d even tried it.

I actually used to let Po spit it straight into a tissue if she tried something and hated it, which became a bit of a novelty. But SO often she’d try it, realise she actually liked it and ask for more 😂

2. Big feelings are okay. We just learn what to do with them.

When Po was little and having a meltdown, I quickly realised there was absolutely no point trying to reason with her in the middle of it. So we started doing 3 big deep breaths and then physically “shaking our grumpies out” together.

Honestly, half the time the novelty of me dramatically shaking my grumpies out would distract her enough from the meltdown to calm down. She actually started getting excited for that part.

As she’s gotten older, I’ve given her the option to remove herself from the situation and do it on her own if she needs to. Then when she’s ready, she comes back and we name the feeling. “I was frustrated”, “I was angry”, “that hurt my feelings”, and talk about why.

I don’t want to teach them not to get angry or upset. I want to teach them how to calm their body, understand what they’re feeling and then communicate it. A skill that I’m still learning myself!

3. Notice the kid sitting on their own.

This is a really big one for me. If you notice another child sitting alone, looking sad or hovering around wanting to join in, go and check on them. Ask if they’re okay. Invite them to play.

They might be shy, they might not know anyone or they might just be having a bad day.

We talk about it by flipping the situation around. “How would you feel if that was you sitting there and nobody asked you to play?”
