The sound of the waves. The sunshine. The breeze off the ocean. The sand and how it gets stuck on everything. The way you look out and can't see an end in sight. Every wave is unique. It carries with it different strength and appearance. I genuinely don't think I could ever get tired of it!

And today I saw the most ridiculously funny thing that legit caused a belly laugh!! An adult was dressed in a blow up unicorn outfit chasing kids around the beach. Out of respect, I am not going to post it since I don't know them, but freaking hilarious!! A much needed laugh!

If fitness is part of your lifestyle, and you've experienced an injury or undergone a surgery, life changes. Even though the change is temporary, it impacts every part of who you are.

Fitness is more than just exercise and building muscle. It builds discipline and consistency. It gives you strength to handle life's circumstances. It's a place to clear your head and burn off unwanted stress.

Fitness has been a consistent part of my life since the eighth grade. This season and long rehabilitative journey has been so difficult. Every single time I think I'm getting somewhere, there's another setback or more restrictions get added.

While I realize intellectually this is temporary, my body feels it. My mind is challenged more than it's ever been. And I've had to find new ways to cope with the stress and challenges.

One thing I have found super helpful are these supplements shown in the reel. With all the ups and downs and restrictions that limit my ability to lift weights, these supplements have helped me maintain muscle I have gained, and progress in the ways that I can. I've noticed strength and tone increases for the muscle groups I am allowed to train and improved tone in areas that have restrictions.

Perseverance, Endurance, perspective, curiosity/willingness to try new things, and surrounding yourself with supportive people all play a role in staying focused in these hard times and working towards a full recovery.

What does fitness mean for you? How has it helped your life?

Have you ever had an injury or surgery? How did your life change? How did you handle all the challenges?

The past couple days have been extra challenging with my rehabilitation.

Feelings and thoughts have tried to convince me to quit everything. And boy did I want to. But I didn't. I showed up and still did the work.

.What do you do when everything in you wants to quit?

I hope you don't quit whatever you are working towards either.

Recovering from injuries or surgery is very challenging. Oftentimes, you are taken out of your normal activities and work. This can be especially challenging if it's your first time going through a rehabilitation process.

It's humbling. It brings out a lot of feelings. There are obstacles. Progress varies and oftentimes setback occur. Relationships change. Day to day activities change. Finances change. Workouts change. A lot of times these changes are temporary, but it doesn't make them any less challenging.

There are some things that I have found helpful in healing during a challenging recovery journey.

-Start each day with quiet time: reading a devotional, gratitude, prayer, reflection, and setting an intention for the day.

-Write down your workouts you do every day so you can track progress. It helps a lot especially on the hard days.

-Celebrate the progress you are making at least weekly and on the hard days go back and remind yourself how far you've come.

-Show up for yourselves and take ownership of your recovery even when you feel alone or unsupported. This is your journey and you are worth every bit of recovering well.

- Don't share the hard days of your journey with just anyone. Choose to share with those who fully support who you are as a person and what you want to accomplish. Choose to share with people you know want the best for you and will spur you on.

- Make sure you trust your team supporting your care if you don't this could hinder healing. Being genuinely cared for prompts more healing than any skill or certification ever could.

-Get involved in ways you can during your recovery- volunteering, activities within your restrictions you enjoy, Bible studies, challenge groups, take courses, or anything else that keeps you connected to community/other people.

-Set and work on goals other than rehab- Hire a health or life coach if you need it to support other goals you are working on!

No journey will ever be the same. No person heals the same. But there are steps we can take to enjoy the journey and turn the challenging times into purposeful times.

A person's behavior and how they treat us is solely a reflection of who they are, not who we are. Their actions don't change who we are, unless we let them.

I used to take the things people did to me to heart. I couldn't understand how someone could do such awful things. I tried to understand. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I'd believe the best. I believed they could change. This led to more hurt and heartbreak.

I do believe in second chances. We all mess up and are worthy of forgiveness. However, I have learned there is great wisdom in allowing access slowly and truly paying attention to the action behind their words. Words are easy to say and they can be genuine, but actions are what show true change from the inside out. Actions show that a person means what they say.

I experienced someone sharing something that meant so much to me.  After this happened, I received clarity on the actions surrounding what was said. The actions did not line up with what was said. It was a heartbreaking revelation. I faced this head on. It felt terrible. I still feel the sting daily .

I had to grieve the relationship and all I thought it was. I still don't understand why these words were spoken. I am choosing to let go and hand it over to God. To stop trying to understand. To trust in time, if this was truly meant, actions will begin to line up. If not, I move on. Limit sharing. Time spent. It's sad, but life is too valuable and short to be spent on people who don't truly value who we are and what we bring to the relationship.

I understand how easy it is to believe what people say. I truly do. Actions must always follow words. Learn to take what people say lightly. Watch their life. Watch how they treat you. Watch how they treat others. Listening and watching will tell you everything you need to know. It will protect your beautiful heart from so much! You are worthy of a life and all the beautiful, purposeful, and meaningful things that can come when you are connected to the right people. The people who value who you truly are and that make time for you.

A good leader taught me the importance of approaching things with grace AND truth. Listening to understand first before being understood. When I apply these principles especially in times of conflict and hurt, it has been super beneficial and often brings about restoration of relationship. Simple things that can be done, yet very impactful.

I am a very gracious and understanding person, and at the same time I don't tolerate evil, persistent wrongdoing, or harm if a person is made aware of it and they act like nothing happened and continue in their ways. This burns me up inside, especially being in the helping profession and the harm that results from their lack of accountability.

I now understand the experiences patients have shared with me about harm caused in their care as I too have experienced negligent care that caused a lot of harm in my life. The behavior was called out and no accountability was taken.  None.  In fact quite the opposite. The person who caused harm was backed and I was left to deal with the impact.

A fire burns in my soul watching people continue in harmful ways that are known and allowed. I have had to learn how to channel this fire inside into things that are helpful so I don't get stuck in the feeling.

None of us are perfect. We all mess up at times. We do things we aren't proud of. We do things that we may not have known were wrong. We may unintentionally harm someone. We have an opportunity to learn, grow, and change every day if we choose to. If we come forward and own it. Have the converstaion. Admit the wrongdoing. There is opportunity for forgiveness, grace, understanding, and restoration. It may feel difficult to do this, but the benefits of it are life changing. Legit life changing.

Grace and understanding must be followed up with truth, accountability, and change. This is where the life change really comes into effect, where growth happens and we become better.

Is there something you are aware of, know you need to own, but are not? Why?

Have you ever done something wrong intentionally or unintentionally and come forward with it? What happened?

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone tells me I am so busy. It has never set well with me and it is not something I have ever said, even in seasons that my schedule was very full.

If we are investing our time in people, work, and things that matter to us, the way I see it, it's will never be "busy". It will be purposeful. It's meaningful. It matters. We will want to do it.

There were seasons of my life that I worked 70-80 hours a week. There was purpose in every bit of it. It was meaningful work and I was making a difference. During this time I stayed in contact with the people that were important to me and took a surf trip once a month.

We have the time, how are we choosing to use it? Maybe we just need to make some shifts that better align with who we are and what matters to us.

I know life can be hard and things can get full, however I challenge you to look at how you are actually spending your time and who with.

When you take an honest look at your schedule are you doing work that matters to you? Are you investing your time in the relationships that matter to you? What else are you doing that matters to you or doesn't?

What changes could you make to your day to better align with who you are and what matters to you?

When we align our lives with who we truly are and what matters to us we will show up better, find so much purpose, and won't ever think about being busy again. Our schedule will be full of things that matter to us.

We can always show up and do hard things no matter how we feel! Feelings are important and worth acknowledging, but they don't make good leaders of our lives. They often lie to us, lead us astray, or try to convince us to give up. We can make good decisions and show up well despite how we feel.

Set standards. Renember your morals and values. Commit to them. Take action based on them. Then watch the awesome progress that is made as you take committed action every day!! Overtime it builds and one day you will wake up changed. You will have greater confidence to face and overcome the new challenges that come.

The hard things will not deter you like they used to. You will find a way thru them and be successful!

What hard thing/challenge are you avoiding or don't feel like you can overcome?

Why not take a step today and work towards overcoming it?

Life can be so challenging and exhausting, but there is always something good in everyday. Experiencing this sunset was one of the good things today. The sound of the waves during a sunset brings a lot of calm and peace. I checked out a new spot in Encinitas this evening. It was beautiful. Super grateful for the experience!

I am grateful for so many things today:

-A significant breakthrough today in brainspotting
-A book that literally spoke directly to my heart.
-A new connection that brought forth encouragement to my spirit.
-Someone took time to help me with issues in rehab and help get things going in the right direction, It meant so much, I have felt like I am handling so much on my own/alone in it all. I was grateful to have help.
-A great guy at the shoe store who helped me get what was needed for an injury I am dealing with.
-Willingness of someone to adjust a meeting time, which helped with what I had going on.
-A good conversation with a lady at a checkout line.
-The challenge group I am a part of and all the progress and wins they are making.
-An opportunity to lead a day challenge this week.
-Successfully reaching all wins today despite frustration and challenges.
-Eating at one of my Favorite places in Encinitas and getting a drink at another place later on in the evening.
-And of course this sunset experience......I am sure there is more...but this is a good start ;)

I am learning it is totally ok and valid to acknowledge and express frustration/emotions as long as I don't stay stuck in it. Appreciation and gratitude can help change the perspective of the challenges. It may not resolve the issues but definitely helps shift the focus.

Where's your favorite spot for a sunset?

What are you grateful for?

Oceanside is a very special place to me. The treatment I am receiving has given me an opportunity to come back here monthly.
Being here gives peace to my soul and reminds me of all the things I have faced and overcome in life.

It's a place I dealt with all of the challenging life sh*t that happened. It is the place where I faced everything, healed, learned, grew, and got free from things that impacted me for years. This led to me being able to show up as my authentic self without any reservations.

If you have life sh*t you haven't dealt with yet, deal with it. Everything in your life will improve if you do. Stuffing, avoiding, and making excuses for behavior may seem easier now, but it will only make things worse in the long run.

We all have had hard things happen to us and have done things we aren't proud of. Every single one of us. There is no shame in being honest about it. Face it, heal, and get free!! You won't regret it!!

What is something in life that has happened to you or something you've done that you're still holding against yourself or someone else?

Do you know why you are holding onto it?

What's preventing you from healing from it?
