Allow me to (re)introduce myself…

I’m Anne (she/her), floral artist, educator and forager of dead stuff 🥀

But most of my friends would describe me as the one who walks half a block behind them, squealing at every cat / pretty flower / tiny piece of moss / random leaf. Like a 4 year old. Pockets full with treasures included 🐚 
People who know me in real life would *also* tell you I’m…

Most likely to:
* Go on a 2 hour google search just so I can find you the name of a rare but cute plant you saw somewhere in a garden overseas.
* Wear my heart not just out of my sleeve, but in my hand. Some might call it oversharing, I call it disarming 🙃
* Take a hundred pictures (digital, film, videos too!) of an arrangement and never share any of them. Current camera roll count: 75.687.

Least likely to:
* Keep things ‘small and simple’. Why do it the easy way, when you can make it extra complicated & time consuming? 😆
* Praise my own work, because I’m self taught and have a persistent inner critic that seems to think I’m still not good enough. (I have ways to shut him up though!)
* Remember to jump out of the way of the coffee table (/doorframe/kitchen counter) that has been there for 5 years. If you’re wondering about that giant bruise on my leg.. don’t. 🙄

A seasonal flower arch for the best plant fair around! We created this foam free installation for the Ambachtelijke Plantenmarkt, hosted by @dewiersse @gardenersworldnl 🌿

And we started with absolutely nothing.

No structure, no frame, no ready-to-go arch.

This year, I wanted to show more of my own style, of my passion for branches, for seasonal magic. Something slightly more elegant & organic 🌾

So I decided I would create my own arch.

More work?
Probably.

Worth the effort?
Absolutely! 👏🏻

We secured 2 short poles in the ground for stability and braided willow branches together to form an arch.

I didn’t want a ‘stuffed’ look, so we created a light base layer, using foliage & berry filled branches from the estate grounds (thank you Mary & team!)

We used slow flowers only, that I cut myself at @pluktuinstoutenburg and @plukatelier, along with some dahlias & curly grasses that my assistent for the day @studiofemfleur grew 🌸

I hid funeral cones on the arch and vessels on the ground & straw bales. So all flowers were happy & hydrated, all through the weekend! 💦

(except for some strawflowers and a handful of chrysanthemums)

I have to say: I love how it turned out! 😍

And I LOVED seeing thousands of people admire/enjoy/photograph our installation.

I proudly watched people take selfies in front of this, they even lined up to do so! As someone that usually works from home alone, that was a real treat 🥹

Thank you to my husband @stijsen and assistent @studiofemfleur for helping me create this.

Come meet me & my work in person! 🍂

It’s almost time for my favourite weekend: the Ambachtelijke Plantenmarkt! Hosted by @dewiersse & @gardenersworldnl, this plant fair is a TREAT for any gardener/plant lover 💚

Think: loads of growers, makers and artisanal brands, delicious food, homemade cider, gorgeous gardens, the kindest, most passionate people ánd me!

Not that I’m not kind and passionate 😆

I’m super thrilled to announce I am creating something for the fair again! For the third time. I’m even on the official map now 🌸

Last year I made the massive arch you see above.

I can give a spoiler: I will create another arch, full of seasonal flowers & foliage/berries from the estate grounds. And obviously.. all foam free 👏🏻

But I will create a different - more Anne - design this time.

I might have underestimated how much time it will take me, but that’s a future me problem haha! For now, I am really excited about it! 🤩  Stefan will be helping me to install it again (he did well last year, so he can come back ;)) and we are both walking around the fair all weekend.

Honestly, this tablescape was born out of pure despair.

The heatwaves were getting the better of me and my garden. Flowers melting, leaves shrivelled, the soil turned to dust. I couldn’t handle the pressure of keeping flowers alive, so I didn’t create anything at all.

But that’s not the way to go.

Not just because I have an online school that needs new videos every now & then (lol), but because we can’t give into despair and anxiety.

We need to turn it into action.

And as florists, we can help to make a change 👏🏻

We could blast the AC, use tons of water and energy to make sweet peas or dahlias work during high Summer 🥀

Or we could show our clients that there are other ways.

Ways that are more sustainable, less stressful and more original. Using local flowers, climate-proof ingredients and pulling inspiration from the natural world.

Like this grassy tablescape with Queen Anne’s Lace & pennycress. Crispy and gold, yet light and breezy. Like a much needed evening breeze through a Summer meadow 🌾

And I have to say, I loved creating this. This and the grassy bouquet I posted a while ago.

Not just because I get to inspire you with it - hopefully. But also because this is where I started.. dried bits and wildflowers.

What’s your favourite colour palette? 👇🏻

This post was made possible by another heatwave, lol. Because once it got too hot to edit the new video for my online school, I fled to my cool(ish) studio.

The plan was to create lots of content to feed the algo beast..

But a fried brain can only do so much 🥵

So I didn’t make bouquets.
No arrangements either.
No colourful tablescapes.

My creativity just wouldn’t have it today 🧟‍♀️

But I didn’t want this afternoon to go to waste (also.. I REALLY didn’t want to go upstairs or outside because of the heat lol).

So I stayed in my studio full of flowers. And I literally went through my buckets to look for some fun colour combos.

Some inspiration for my future self - and you! There is SO much more than soft pastels & peach flowers 🎨

Hot, sweaty days ask for simple, stress-free designs. I’m embracing the dried stuff with this 2 ingredient bouquet 🌾

All I’m using is dried bear grass I saved from a project I did years ago, plus some foraged Queen Anne’s Lace.

The QAL held up great, despite being out of water for hours while I filmed/photographed this 🤓

Here’s to crispy designs during heatwaves, instead of trying to keep cosmos alive! 😅🥀

Florists: this one’s for you!

You know when you see a post and you’re like: “How did they know I needed this?!” 👀   Well.. this is one of those posts.

Something (okay, my own personal frustration about this app, lol) told me you needed some inspiration for your social media content.

So I brainstormed and put together this list for you 🤓
