2.5.2022-10.11.22

I went into 2022 with big goals, including my first solo backpacking trip and climbing Mt. Whitney. Then on 2/5, while running a trail race, I fell and, for lack of better words, ripped my knee open on a rock. A selfless group of women carried me 1.5 miles down the hill.

A day and a half spent in the hospital, an hour and half long surgery, 36 staples, and one very uncomfortable brace. I waited for over three weeks until I could bend my knee (which was actually a terrifying thought at first). After the staples came out, the work began.

Then I found out that we won a permit to climb Whitney in October. A blessing in disguise because it was the latest date I put in. It allowed me enough time to fully focus on recovering and build up strength and confidence.

Over two months later and I was back hiking on trails, and another two months with a full pack on.

A total of 18 physical therapy appointments, a heck of a ton of patience, determination, and encouragement.

I may still not have all of the sensation back, but I have the sickest scar and story to tell. And the solo trip and summiting still happened.

I still haven’t been able to look at the pre-surgery photo yet…one day, maybe.

Store number 9 is open! Our second store opening in CT had some speed bumps, but I think we did a pretty dang good job making it happen.

Two down on the year and a handful more to go!
