I had a rough week last week—didn’t leave my house for a chunk of days, was subsisting mostly on sadness and chips, and you dooooon’t wanna know my showering schedule. BUT I threw on my “cat howling at the milk bowl” shirt and headed to @daydreamercoffeepdx last Friday to hang out with sweet people and sing Glory, Hallelujah (I’ve Got Nothing).

This is your reminder that you don’t have to show up pretty and you don’t have to show up perfect. Just show up.

On Tuesday morning I jumped in the Willamette to celebrate turning 45.

The water wasn’t as cold as I expected, I felt tingly—alive in all my molecules. I watched a mama duck and her little ducklings, awed by the wonder and joy in the world. I floated on my back, eyes to the sun, and prayed that the universe would send me all the good things into my life my body my mind my soul, like the river water seeping into my skin.

Today I lost my job, one that I expected to carry me through the end of the year. I’m honestly at panic attack mode — sad, hurt, shocked, anxious, vulnerable.

But I know that good things have come from hard times in the past, in the most surprising ways.

To celebrate my birthday with me (and deliver some much needed encouragement), would you share a story about something that worked out for you in an unexpected way? A turn that zagged towards joy when it was zigging to fear? A bend in the road you couldn’t have predicted that led you right where you needed to go? I’d love to hear about it. by @anniebethancourt
