✨Artist Spotlight✨
@anniecanto and @dionnecomics

AC*DC Comics is a comics collective comprised of Annie Canto (AC) and Dionne Co (DC). Their printed work is emergent, hand-printed, and covered in dog hair. Their comics and zines are dialogic and wrestle with the themes of friendship, loneliness and seeking refuge in the other. As Filipinx diasporic artists their work is guided by values of solidarity and community engagement. Their collaboration takes place on the unceded traditional territory of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Come check them out, alongside a whole crew of stellar local artists at Paper Goods Fest - a pop-up paper party hosted by happenstance at the Russian Hall’s lower level to celebrate all things printed, folded, sticker-y, and zine-y.

📍Russian Hall – 600 Campbell Ave, Vancouver, BC
🕰️ Saturday, Oct 3 | 10:00–4:00pm
🎫 Free to attend! taken in Russian Hall by @anniecanto

i had the honour of working with the incredibly creative & talented @anniecanto on a video! i filmed annie screen printing at their studio on hi-8 tape and then digitally compressed the images. the video was featured as a part of annie’s exhibition @slicevancouver

i was drawn to annie’s diy collage screen printing techniques for shirts/posters/zines & how their process resembles mine with editing+analogue animation, which was a big inspiration for the video in “Fanboy” (annie’s exhibition, which is really just an homage to the beloved Boy Bawang). go check it out at SoL!

here are some photos from the opening night and a quick preview of some segments from the video!

Show opening @slicevancouver tomorrow! THE BEST PART OF MAKING THIS STUFF HAS BEEN WORKING WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

@nice.loop made a killer video piece that brings this boy bawang concept to another level. Inspired by collaging processes in silk screen and this noisy Boy aesthetic we're going for. What TALENT, I can't believe how wild this video is! Watch it at length in the gallery!

@postpostpost.studio helped me do experiments with ink jet on newsprint so I could then screen print! Michal also indulged me with some cnc cut Boy Bawang CHARMS.

I can't wait to learn more!!

New printing experiments inspired by this year of producing Boy Bawang bootlegs. Hasty hasty collaging process translated to screen! Come see more layers @slicevancouver this week!
