This month’s Member of the Month had to be Annie! 🤍

Many of you will already know our lovely Annie, who’s been with us since the beginning. Her progress has been incredible to watch — especially those planks! (She was even coming 3 times a week at one point 🙈).

Annie always shows up as her best self — best outfit, favourite earrings and a smile on her face — she’s already inspired some of our members to do the same. If you’re lucky enough to share a class with her, we can guarantee she’ll make your day that little bit brighter. 🫶🏼

Annie is also giving a talk soon ,locally, for women post-retirement, which we’ll be sharing details of! 🤩 taken in The Hawk Creative Business Park by @anniestirkmodel

EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Winning the Exceptional Achievement Award from the Silver Marketing Association is something I never imagined when I answered a Facebook modelling advert in my late 60s. Looking back, it’s incredible how one opportunity changed my life.

Although modelling opened the door, I never stopped thinking like the PR and marketing professional I’d always been. I’m always spotting opportunities and asking, “How could this be even better?”

One of those moments came when I noticed there was very little representation of older women in the York Fashion Week programme. Rather than thinking someone should do something, I asked if we could. The answer was yes—and that conversation led to Silver & Sassy.

For me, that’s what this award represents: seeing a gap and helping to create positive change. I’m incredibly grateful to the Silver Marketing Association for this recognition, and to Ageism Is Never In Style for sponsoring the award and challenging ageism.

This award isn’t a finish line—it’s a springboard.

I want to continue working with those who believe age should never be a barrier. Together, we can challenge outdated perceptions, create opportunities where experience is celebrated.

I hope my journey shows it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. One idea or opportunity really can change your life.

To everyone who has supported and believed in me—thank you. This award may have my name on it, but it belongs to everyone who believes ageing should be celebrated, not stereotyped.

Here’s to continuing the conversation, creating change and proving that silver hair, a little sass and a lifetime of experience are powerful assets.

There is still so much more I want to accomplish.

I'm absolutely delighted and honoured to have been shortlisted for the Silver Marketing Association's Exceptional Achievement Award.

To be recognised alongside so many people doing great work in this space is both humbling and inspiring.

At a stage in life when many women feel overlooked, I got the opportunity to step in front of the camera, onto the catwalk and into the conversation about age representation. I never imagined that all the wonderful opportunities would eventually lead to a nomination like this!

Over the past few years, I've been passionate about challenging ageism, championing better representation of older women in marketing, advertising and media, and encouraging women to embrace new opportunities at every stage of life through Silver and Sassy, Find Your Midlife Magic, Primed For Life, collaborations with organisations and initiatives including Age UK York, Models of Diversity, the Silver Marketing Association, NABs River Island and TV and Radio All committed to changing the narrative around ageing.

This nomination isn't just about me—it's about every woman who has refused to become invisible, embraced change, taken on new challenges and continues to prove that age is an asset, not a limitation.

I'm looking forward to joining fellow finalists and delegates at the Silver Marketing Association Annual Summit on Thursday, 9th July 2026, where the winners of the Silver Marketing Awards will be announced.

Thank you to the Silver Marketing Association for this recognition, and thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged and believed in my mission to challenge stereotypes and celebrate the value, visibility and influence of older women.

Whatever happens on the day, I already feel incredibly proud to be among such an inspiring group of finalists and to be part of a movement that is helping to reshape how society, brands and the media view ageing.

Here's to challenging perceptions, opening doors and proving that some of life's most exciting opportunities can come long after society expects them to.

"I just thought I was going to die".

Here's model, mentor, broadcaster and age-positive trailblazer @anniestirkmodel with her reflections on how lesser-known menopause symptoms can disarm and worry us. And in her case there was little support or understanding.

After retiring at 67, Annie never expected to begin a new chapter as a silver model. She's now one of the many women proving reinvention has no age limit. We thank her for sharing her advice with us 🧡

Every now and again a 'pinch me' moment opportunity crops up!

Our @primedforlife @christineetalbot had been offered a role in a new production called @hotflash.film written by @indiejanb starring @msgfaye and directed by @kathryn.carmichael.actor, and they were looking for supporting artists.

@rachelperu1 and I were lucky to be invited to take part, (@bernadette_gledhill was at London Fashion Week so sadly couldn't be with us).

It was a totally new experience for me and I loved it! The film is an all Yorkshire production, filmed on the East Coast in some iconic locations.

It promises to be a fun, feel good production with a cracking music score from @elliotjameskennedy.

Here's a little teaser of what's to come!

It's been a really difficult time recently as two close members of my family were diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo surgery. I realise this no different to the thousands of other families in similar situations, and I felt I wanted to do something to help.

As a finalist in the 2026 Galaxy Pageant competition....I am Mrs York Galaxy UK...I am raising much needed help for The Christie Charity at The Christie Hospital in Manchester.

The Christie is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe. Alongside the pioneering research work for all cancers, they are doing specific research into Breast Cancer, something very close to my heart.

Having seen loved ones go through this devastating diagnosis has made me acutely aware not only of the physical adjustment, but the mental anguish too. It's a nightmare situation for everyone.

The number of younger women with a breast cancer diagnosis makes for sobering reading. So I'm hoping that you might be able to support this wonderful cause with whatever donation you can manage, so that the research can hopefully find a cure for this awful disease.

Well yesterday was incredible! To celebrate #internationalwomensday and to raise money for @smartworksleeds the four of us agreed to be part of an abseil down the famous Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley!

It was a huge challenge and yes, terrifying.. particularly as you’ll see here, it didn’t all go quite to plan! I’m not sure we’d thought this through! 🤣

We were thrilled however to take part (even though we were the first team over among over 60 on the day!) @smartworksleeds is such an amazing charity, which helps empower women and get them back into work by proving advice, guidance and clothing.

We have to admit it was more terrifying than we expected, a first for @bernadette_gledhill and @rachelperu1, who bravely went over first! @anniestirkmodel and @christineetalbot have done it once before but maybe, like childbirth you forget the pain!!

We are so proud that we did it amongst so many amazing volunteers on the day. Well done to everyone. 🙌🏻
