♟️🎴 Print-Making Workshop Project

Explored the process of lino cut printmaking by combining chess pieces with the aesthetics of playing cards to create a unique visual composition. From sketching and carving to inking and creating final impressions, this project helped me experiment with textures, balance, contrast, and handmade printing techniques.

The final artwork features the King, Queen, Knight, and Bishop divided into four sections inspired by playing card layouts, bringing together strategy, symbolism, and detailed lino carving.

A creative learning experience conducted at NGMA, New Delhi.

Exploring photography through the CMYK process.

This series transforms everyday photographs into studies of colour separation, repetition, rhythm, and composition. By breaking images into Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black layers, I wanted to observe how print processes can reshape the emotional and visual language of a photograph.

The framed arrangements create dialogue between images through contrast, variation, and structure — turning captured moments into graphic compositions.

Design exists beyond studios and screens.

In Haridwar, I explored my family’s Vanshavali — handwritten records preserved for generations, some dating back centuries. What stayed with me was not just the history, but the design within it: the texture of aged paper, evolving Hindi and Urdu scripts, ink marks, spacing, rhythm, and the way stories were archived long before digital systems existed.

Seeing these records felt like witnessing typography, storytelling, and preservation evolving through time. A reminder that design has always been a part of how humans document memory and identity.

As part of my academic exploration in design, I traveled to Udaipur to study the traditional Molela craft. This experience involved in-depth documentation, research, and direct engagement with artisans.

The outcome is a comprehensive book that presents the craft through my perspective—covering its history, process, cultural relevance, and visual language. This project helped me understand how traditional practices inform contemporary design thinking, especially in terms of storytelling, material understanding, and form development.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to @uid_india for providing me with this opportunity, and to @rshatabhisha for their constant guidance and support throughout the journey.
