Friends, I don’t quite understand how Matilda and I will keep going. I’m making this post in between heaving pain and tears. We shaped our lives, our home, our jobs, our days entirely around our dogs. Ada was due to deliver puppies today and instead went into critical care last night. This afternoon her heart arrested and she passed away. None of the 10 puppies survived. They were all perfect. There were no prior health issues. We did everything right. Life is fragile, and at any moment the whole source of your happiness in the world can come to an end. Finding nonhuman teachers has been, without question, the resounding goal and pleasure of my life. Ada was our baby. We don’t have children of our own. I feel completely empty, and unsure where to go from here. I’m posting this because so many of our friends knew her, loved her, and were excited for her puppies to come and watch her be the best dog mom. Please, if you read this, understand that we may not be able to respond right away. Send your love to our angel, Ada. I wish this was more eloquent. I wish, most of all, this nightmare weren’t real. Thank you, to all of you who loved her. She was everything to us. by @anoceanofanotion

My life adorned with flowers and dogs, Matilda and winemaking and friends. Sometimes you suspect a roll of film contains something that will break your heart. Sirius smiling in a field of poppies on our tiny farm is peak beauty. taken in Sierra Nevada Mountains by @anoceanofanotion

It’s Springtime again. Enosh Baker is coming to @plant_sale_la with his bottles of odiferous fruits, wood oils, and mosses, flowers, minerals and sap. Cofermented quince, pear, and muscat wines sparkle in their glass containers. Nocino, aged in oak, from wild California botanicals beg for release onto your vanilla ice cream. And the most exquisite natural perfumes on the planet, created by master of olfactory metaphysics, Marc Hudon, will be available for the first time in very limited supply. As always, there will be ethnobotanical wonders, rare plant starts, and seeds from the far corners of our world.

May 16th, 2026, 11am-4pm, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles.

Come hang out, bring a date, and send your friends if you can’t make it. If you’re arriving later and you want me to save you something, send me a dm! The perfumes are mind-blowing and they WILL sell out. by @anoceanofanotion

Sirius found me when life, I thought, had little left for me. He was odd. A strange spirit from another place maybe, caught in the body of a dog. Sirius, my boy from another world. He knew things dogs shouldn’t know, and reacted emotionally to the world. His eyes betrayed a sadness and understanding I still can’t believe. He was stunning, in every way. Brilliant, aware, and ever recalcitrant. He didn’t wait for anyone to tell him what being a good dog was. And I dare you to find a more handsome boy. He would have been 13 years old on July 2 this year.

It’s 4am. I bob around from room to room, like a boat unmoored. I repeat to myself the plaintive that he’s still here, with me. My heart, the ocean, calms a little. If he was here I would find him, grab his mane and bury my face in his fur. He smelled like the forest, always. I used to think it was because he would run through the fields of white madia flowers on our farm. His back arching as he bounded, like a dolphin. It was just how he smelled, always. I cut a section of his mane, the softest part, below his beautiful ear, because I can’t stand the thought of giving all of him to the earth.

The silence he left is deafening. He would knock on the french glass doors at night to get my attention. He would get lonely while protecting us for bears or squirrels, depending where we were and want my attention. I don’t quite know who I am anymore. This was, in truth, my deepest fear realized. Sirius took all my sadness and transformed it to joy. I find the yahrzeit candle my mom lit in the kitchen. By it’s light I search for something to make my mind stop so I can sleep. There’s only Advil. I take 2 and immediately feel like throwing up. I’m not certain why I’m writing this, but I guess in the end it’s to say thank you, to everyone reading. Everyone who pet him, was kind to him and cared for him. Anyone who immortalized him in paintings and sculptures and photographs. I really want you to know how much it means to me, because there’s no way I alone could have given him back what he gave to me. I love you Sirius. I’ll miss you until the day I too leave for the stars. by @anoceanofanotion

Hey friends, today I found something I have been searching for for 15 years. Based on my own observations of habitat on my farm in the Sierra Foothills and the abundance of small waterfalls I had reason to believe that one of our most endangered species of frog- the Foothill Yellow-legged Frog would call it home.

After 1000s of false observations of Pacific tree frogs that looked similar enough to get my heart pumping, the moment finally arrived. Look at this cutie and hold it in your heart. Habitat loss due to dams and water diversions, pesticide use and introduced species have led to a drastic decline in their populations. It’s for them and all our wildlife that cannot come back from extinction that I never spray pesticides or herbicides or use heavy machinery when I grow food or grapes for wine. The future is in gentle and harmonious integration of agriculture with our wild landscapes by @anoceanofanotion

Nude Earth is the brainchild of farmer/winemaker/forest mongrel Enosh Baker @anoceanofanotion, and musician/philosopher Jim Brown @jimbrown52: an evolving multi-species organism whose agency extends to entheogenic plants, donkeys, fungi and non-living art objects that make and remake the world around us in a complex dance of dazzling equivocation. Follow the perfumed air of yuzu and black walnut to find their table of rare wonders. Flowers, olives, heirloom seeds, and plants from the far reaches. Come feast on their menagerie of biophilic and entheogenic wares alongside food by the illustrious @cacioybebe by @anoceanofanotion

“The eye owes its existence to light. The light conjures up from indifferent animal auxiliary organs an organ to be its equal, and thus the eye forms in the light for the light, so that the light within counters the outer light.” Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Towards a Theory of Color, 1808

My saftah (סבתא), Rachel Yodeim ͏(רחל יודעים), born in Tehran on New Years Eve, 1930, passed away yesterday. All of my early childhood memories take place at her home in Rishon Letzion, where she was relocated after fleeing Iran from persecution. She was beautiful and kind and I miss her endlessly. I have this overwhelming desire to absorb every last part of her as she leaves the material plane - pomegranates and chickens and flowers and rice and gondi, and the things that can’t be seen or heard like her smiling eyes and the gentleness she brought whenever she held me, the strength of raising a family. And then I realize I already am all those things. Grandmothers are so special. Go love them while you can ❤️ by @anoceanofanotion
