A huge thank you to the @deloitte volunteers who joined us for Impact Day yesterday 6/5/2026 at Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse!

They helped us tackle a long list of practical projects that will make a real difference as we kick off the season. Volunteers stenciled new kayaks, public program paddles, trip paddles, safety equipment, vests, seahorses, and more. They added whistles to our Trip PFDs, replaced batteries and prepped donated Trip lights and gear, added pool noodles to our paddle racks, and restocked essential items in our first aid kits.

These may seem like small tasks individually, but together they significantly improve our readiness and help us launch programs more efficiently and safely for the community.

I can’t thank the team enough for their hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to jump into whatever needed to be done. It was a beautiful day on the waterfront, and their efforts will continue to benefit our volunteers and paddlers throughout the season.

Here are a few photos from our very busy branding line and the many projects completed throughout the day. 🚣‍♀️☀️

Thank you everyone! - Alicia Jones, @bbpboathouse Vice President 🛶

I squeezed Sunday evening painting in before the work week starts. I added some depth to the whale and color to the ocean. taken in New York, New York by @anoellejay

If everyone on IG bought a print, I would:

1. cry (artistically)
2. restock paint like I run a small emergency response unit
3. immediately convince myself I need to paint even bigger things

Anyway, prints are here if you want to participate in my extremely scientific experiment in “what happens if artists can keep making art”:

No pressure. But also… I have brushes that are emotionally dependent on this outcome. taken in New York, New York by @anoellejay

I started my nighttime humpback whale breech painting. It’s been a while. I had to dust it off. Don’t worry, my paints haven’t dried up. This painting pair will be finished soon. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @anoellejay

Honestly? Couch painting is a top-tier recovery strategy.

I accidentally did exactly what most of us should do when we’re sick—but instead we try to power through and just feel worse. Today was about low-effort, high-comfort, tiny wins. The kind that make you feel like a person again without draining the one battery bar you have left.

Sick-day art isn’t about making something impressive. It’s just moving color around and letting your brain exhale.

If it happened from under a blanket, it still counts.

My personal Sick Day Pick-Me-Up List:

🎨 Make something small (emphasis on small).
Not a masterpiece. Not “productive.” Just doodle, mix colors, exist creatively for a minute.

☕ Upgrade the sick-day drink.
Tea, broth, lemon water—but in your favorite mug. Emotional support vessels matter.

📺 Put on something easy.
Low-stress viewing. Documentary. Background comfort. Nothing that requires brainpower.

🌿 Open a window for five minutes.
Yes, even if you immediately retreat back under the blanket like a Victorian invalid.

📝 Do one absurdly easy task.
Answer one email. Clean one brush. Check on a plant. Refill the humidifier. Tiny accomplishments fight the “I am useless” lie.

😴 Then go back to resting.
Because the real cure is not negotiating with your body.

Sick days are basically your body saying:

✨ Black History Month | Day 1 ✨

Black history isn’t only something we study — it’s something we continue to create.
And my art is part of that living, breathing legacy.

Through my work, I explore memory, movement, water, resilience, and the quiet power of Black presence. Every piece is a form of storytelling — honoring where we’ve been while imagining where we’re going. Creating is how I take up space, document joy, and leave a visual record that says we were here.

Supporting Black artists is about more than a moment — it’s about sustaining culture and future stories. If my work speaks to you, you can find it here:

This month (and always), I’m proud to be creating, sharing, and building legacy through art.
