🇯🇵 What surprised me most in Japan wasn’t simply how punctual Japanese people are, but how even people who are usually late somehow start showing up on time once they live here.

Punctuality in Japan isn’t just a personal habit. It’s a rhythm that the whole society keeps together. When everyone is on time, transport, work, systems, and everyday life are all built around that same expectation. Over time, even people who were never punctual before gradually adapt to that rhythm.

🇯🇵 When I first came to Japan, I couldn’t understand why people would keep speaking Japanese to me even when it was obvious I didn’t understand.

It made me realize how differently communication can work in Japan. Sometimes, following the right procedure seems more important than whether the message is actually understood.

🇯🇵The first time I went to a Japanese onsen, I was surprised that I didn’t feel embarrassed at all.

Being naked around strangers made me think about Japan’s strong sense of collectiveness. Even at their most vulnerable, people quietly fit into the group — and somehow, not standing out becomes part of the way society works.
