At the Crown Heights Care Collective, we believe that a new world begins on the block. By cultivating relationships of care and trust with our neighbors, we can keep each other safe, fight for each other, and wield our collective power to build the neighborhood we want. 💜

For this, we have to actually know our neighbors. Our new Social Investigation Project aims to do just that! Starting this fall, we will be canvassing on the streets and knocking on doors from Kingston Ave to Utica Ave, and Dean St. to Park Place, to understand how people live in Crown Heights. What struggles do we face and how do we solve problems? How do people relate to each other, the cops, and their landlords? What do folks like about their blocks and what do they want to change? 📝

At the end of this project, we aim to create and present a people’s analysis of the neighborhood—one that allows us to understand how we, as community organizers, can forge an abundant, abolitionist world with people power. ✊🏽

🚨 due to weather, the Super Smash Imperialism tournament has been rescheduled to November 7, and the Science Against Capitalism panel will be online only!

September is here! We’re excited to bring in the second fall season of Another World with our comrades and neighbors!

Join us for some of the exciting programming we have planned this month, such as:

A panel discussing the importance of including and learning from New Afrikan Political Prisoners, info sessions and trivia regarding reproductive justice, a panel on anti-capitalist sciences, a community poetry slam and a super smash fundraiser tournament!

Also be sure to stop by some of our recurring programming like our Community Playdates, the Healing Clinic, Soup Sundays and Repair Cafe to name a few!

Be on the look out for opportunities to get involved with the Another World community like upcoming volunteer meetings for the Crown Heights Care Collective’s Social Investigation Project (SIP)!

Breaking News: The second year of Another World’s Summer Youth Program was a huge success!

Over six weeks this July and August, we trained eight local youth from Crown Heights and Bed Stuy as community journalists, sent them into the field, edited their writing, published their stories, and organized a launch event for our Fellows to read their pieces in front of an audience of locals.

Their training began with the history of Crown Heights and of NYC. We explored what makes news news, where we find it, and how it shapes our understanding of the world. We learned how to investigate, interview, and research. Once our talented, brilliant Youth Fellows chose their topics, we helped them bring their visions to life!

This year, we published three stories written by SYEP youth, on the rising subway fares and fare evasion, the role of basketball in the community, and the insidious nexus connecting Jay-Z, Epstein, the Atlantic Yards redevelopment, and Black Capitalism as counterinsurgency.

We were especially delighted to have two of our Fellows from last year return in mentor roles! Just like last year, our Fellows amazed us with their intelligence and charm, which shines through in their stories.

👻 More canvassing dates for our Social Investigation Project this October! 👻

This fall, CHCC is canvasing the blocks between Kingston Ave to Utica and Dean Street to Park Place to understand how people actually live in Crown Heights.

This summer we hosted our second cohort of local youth reporters for the People's Torch. Most of our cohort came to us via the Summer Youth Employment Program, and spent 6 intense weeks learning what makes a story, how to interview people, and writing their own reported feature which was published in the Black August edition of the paper.

Jeremiah, Ojay and Kenyo wrote "More Than A Game" about basketball culture in Crown Heights amidst the Knicks fevor of the summer. Here's the behind the scenes!
