🌞 “There are other worlds they have not told you about. They wish to speak with you” — Sun Ra (1978)

Ok so here’s the thing: Color Collective Press is… just another world press.

Anyways, why are you reading this when you could be checking out some of the free resources and stuff: sign your small reading group up for “pocketbooks for the people”, download the free zine library, poster library, and a growing collection of free popular education materials including guides, speeches, and transcriptions that highlight the work of artists, writers, and cultural workers over the past century in the struggle to build and imagine another world beyond capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism..

Grateful to everyone who reached out over the past few months, and to everyone who’s been solid since day one as this project grows, and changes shape over time. Very excited for the collabs we got in the queue and the projects otw 🤫

Get into it.

“August is a month of meaning; of repression and radical resistance, of injustice and divine justice; of repression and righteous rebellion; of individual and collective efforts to free the slaves and break the chains that bind us.” — Mumia Abu-Jamal

From Jamestown to the Haitian revolution, Soledad to the Watts Rebellion, Folsom and Attica to the b*mbing of the MOVE resistance and much more, here’s some artwork (and the historical art that inspired it) images that barely scratch the surface of Black August..

A very brief intro: Black August is an annual commemoration (as opposed to a celebration) of the struggles of freedom fighters to free political prisoners starting with the assassination of Jeffrey “Khatari” Gauldin, W.L.Nolan, Alvin Juggs Miller, Cleaveland Edwards at Soledad prison in California.

Black August also highlights the stories of freedom fighters and prisoners of war Johnathan Christmas, James McClain, Johnathan Jackson, George Jackson, their mother Georgia Jackson, Safiya Bukhari, Ruchell Magee, Mutulu Shakur, Assata Shakur and so many more.. the struggle to abolish criminality, capitalism and the carceral state, the fight to free all political prisoners, to revolutionary pedagogy, and much more..

“We must accept the spirit of the true internationalism called for by Comrade Che Guevara … We need allies, we have a powerful enemy who cannot be defeated without an allied effort! The enemy at present is the capitalist system and its supporters. Our prime interest is to destroy them. Anyone else with this same interest must be embraced, we must work with, beside, through, over, under anyone, regardless of his or her external physical features, whose aim is the same as ours in this” – George Jackson (Soledad Brother)

🌍July 20th marks the 101st birthday of revolutionary political theorist, psychiatrist, and Pan-Africanist Frantz Fanon, born in 1925 in Fort-de-France, Martinique. He served in the Free French Army in North Africa during World War II and, like many Black colonial troops, came out of it with no illusions about who that empire was for. Living in Algeria, he treated both the tortured and the torturers, backed the independence struggle until he was expelled from the country, and went on to serve as an ambassador for the Algerian National Liberation Front.

From A Dying Colonialism in 1959, The Wretched of the Earth in 1961, and the posthumous Toward the African Revolution in 1964 he took up not just the politics and economics of colonialism but its psychological occupation, and insisted the dehumanization it produces cannot be reasoned away or reformed out of existence. A hundred and one years out, from Palestine to Haiti to the Congo, his questions are still alive in struggle for Black liberation.

🇵🇸 July 8th. Fifty-four years since a car bomb in Beirut took Ghassan Kanafani, writer, editor, and spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, along with his seventeen-year-old niece Lamees. He was thirty-six. Kanafani held that culture was not separate from armed struggle but one of its fronts, that the writer’s task was to arm the people with consciousness the same way the fighter armed them with weapons, both aimed at the same imperialist and Zionist enemy. “Men in the Sun.” “Returning to Haifa.” Words that outlived the bomb meant to erase them, and a martyr whose vision of liberation lives on in struggle. Rest in power. by @anotherworldpress

“Our hearts bled for the Lebanese and the Palestinian men, women and children and we all started hating the Is*aelis.. a new and violently aggressive IsNotReal whose armed forces moved into Lebanon and m*rdered more than 25,000 people, mostly civilian men, women and children, and severely injured another 30,000.. God Cried is a terrific book and.. when you have finished reading it you will become v*olently anti-Isr*eli.”
