Cezernina
40x40 acrylic, oil,China marker and cold wax

Cezernina / Ducks blood soup is a polish dish that happened to be my dear late Grandpoppas favorite meal. This is depiction of the process in the kitchen, including my grandmother’s recipe dated back 1959. around the time she met my grandpa,Kazmere. This is the beginning of the love story. my grandmother worked at the como restaurant since she was 15 and eventually to become the boss lady, my grandfather frequented there-pretty much every day after he got off his job at Hooker in Niagara Falls. My grandmother said that he asked for a job there.. He would always ask her out and she would reply. I have too many kids and too many things to do. He said I don’t mind. after a few years of getting to know him she found out his favorite traditional polish food he replied ducks blood soup and black bread! here are note cards she made secretly one night after work after preparing a meal on the sly she served it to my grandfather. She said he barely spoke. he didn’t have to his eyes watering he looked up at her and said Carmella i believe i love you and after a moment my grandmother replied i’ll let you take me out. they finished the meal and closed up. the rest is history. Even though they got together in 59’they weren’t able to Marry till 1987 My grandmother had an arranged marriage here in the states, even though she didn’t remain with the man it was against her family wishes that she divorce so she waited until he died, my grandparents were married in the courtroom. i only knew kaz to be my grandfather he was honestly my everything and my very best friend my grandmother loved Kaz and they were so sweet and always romantic listening to music cooking together sometimes he’d play her the clarinet. kaz was quite a jazz musician in the 30s and 40s. he was the kindest smartest man i ever known and i’m so grateful Carmella n Kaz got together. my grandmother passed so i lived with kaz for years he really loved that, as did I. His very last meal he requested ducks, blood soup, and black bread. If nothing that man was consistent. i love you poppa this soups for you ❤️ taken in Niagara Falls by @ant_grayce

Uncle Jack n Cousin Candy’s farm 1981
30x30 acrylic and oil, China marker and cold wax
working towards finding a balance between rendered and abstract in my work, something more of a dreamscape. My memories from childhood in upstate New York are quite vivid in the summer. Everything had so much more light and rich colors that were almost bracing to look at and the winters had a depth with rich gray, and heavy blues and Stark white.
Visits with my Cousin Candy and uncle Jack. Were filled with creatures, colors and fields of wildflowers. It was one of my mom’s favorite places to take me. If I close my eyes, I can feel it. what do you think? taken in Niagara Falls by @ant_grayce

@hollydanesi asked me to do her back and my response was- wait me?! I’ve never done one! alright!! it was a huge honor. Holly is one of my closest friends and obviously I wanted to do it as perfect as possible. It also need to be a cover-up. She decided upon a dragon and it was a wonderful learning process. Thank you so much holly i love you bro! thank you for trusting me with this one .
From start to finish, we have around 12 hours in the entire thing doing between an hour and a half and two hour sessions and I would say we both really like it. What do you think?

Rainbow city 30x30 oil, acrylic and cold wax on canvas
According to public records The Environmental Disaster In the 1940s and 1950s, the Hooker Chemicals and Plastics Corporation dumped over 22,000 tons of toxic waste into a half-mile abandoned canal, which was later covered and developed into a residential neighborhood. The Crisis By the late 1970s, chemicals began seeping into residential basements and the nearby environment, causing severe public health issues. after the blizzard of ‘77 -The name “Rainbow City” was born out of bitter sarcasm. cause hazardous, multi-colored chemical sludge was pooling on the surface of the ground and in the basements of their homes, residents spray-painted protest signs stating, “Welcome to Rainbow City.”The Fallout of The disaster resulted in widespread evacuations, a federal emergency declaration by Jimmy Carter in 1978. lots of residents went on records, saying that it affected their children, psychologically with strange behavioral changes and gave a lot of the residents cancer including their animals. Thanks to local activists,Something was able to be done, but not without horrific damage to people of love canal neighborhoods and the effects are still felt today. 1980s Began the Deindustrialization of the falls poverty and crime brought to new levels. Nothing was ever the same in the falls. I included a couple of personal photos of my grandpa and my dad working at Hooker, which most everyone did in the area though it’s not documented what percentage of Niagara Falls worked there but they had around 80,000 employees. my family, and a lot of the area were blue collar employees at Dupont,Hooker and a few others. Parts of Niagara are boarded up and empty. Few residents remain in the rings affected by the love Canal Disaster and the northern and western edges of the area was “decontaminated rebuilt and named black Creek Village. today those empty areas feel like a dark faded memory of a town that tried to be erased. Though no one will ever forget. not ever. I painted this picture of my grandmother‘s house with my cousin on the roof ina halloween mask while my grandparents butchered a pig on the side porch in the falls. 1977 by @ant_grayce
