At Volunteer Point in the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), more than 1,000 breeding pairs of king penguins gather along the shore. 🐧

Here, these regal birds share the beach with gentoo and Magellanic penguins, creating one of the most unforgettable wildlife scenes in the South Atlantic.

Sustainability is at the core of what we do. 💙

We hold our expeditions to the most rigorous standards for responsible travel and design each one to be carbon-neutral. These are some of our efforts as part of our commitment to sustainability:

✔ Carbon emission reduction through energy efficiency and carbon offsetting
✔ Heat and water recycling system on board Magellan Explorer
✔ Strict biosecurity protocols are in place for each of our sea voyages and air-cruises
✔ Reduction of the use of plastic on board to the strict minimum
✔ We use locally-produced e-Fuel in our 10 Zodiac fleets of Magellan Explorer

Here are three things you might not know about humpback whales. 🐋

🐋 Humpbacks are known for their enormous flippers, which can reach up to a third of their entire body length.

🐋 They are normally black, but the undersides of flippers and flukes have varying amounts of white and can be used as aids for individual recognition.

🐋 They can grow from 11 to 19 meters long and weigh between 25 and 35 tons, with males usually a little shorter than females.

If you hope to see them, visit in February, when krill reach their peak and humpbacks gather to feed.

Today, on World Animal Day, we celebrate the extraordinary wildlife that makes our planet so diverse and remarkable. 🌎

In Antarctica, we are reminded of just how extraordinary and interconnected life on our planet truly is. Krill, penguins, seals, albatrosses, and whales all call the White Continent home and are far more than a breathtaking sight. They are vital to the health of our oceans and ecosystems, and studying their behavior helps scientists understand how our planet is changing.

The Antarctic season is just around the corner, and one of the questions we hear most often is: what should you actually wear for an Antarctic expedition?

During the austral summer, temperatures on the Antarctic Peninsula usually hover around 0°C (32°F), though strong winds can make it feel much colder. The secret is dressing in layers, several lightweight, insulating ones topped with waterproof, windproof outerwear. If you have ever packed for a ski trip, you are already halfway there.

Here is what we recommend bringing:

✔ Thermal base layers
✔ Fleece layers
✔ Waterproof parka
✔ Waterproof pants
✔ Warm hat or headgear
✔ Gloves
✔ Sunglasses
✔ Comfortable walking shoes
✔ Comfortable clothing for life on board
✔ Swimsuit

With the right gear, you will stay warm, comfortable, and ready to savor every landing and excursion.

Antarctica is home to some of the most extraordinary wildlife on Earth, and the Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise puts you right in the middle of it. 🐧

Cruise through icy waters by Zodiac, walk among penguin colonies, watch seals resting on the ice, and scan the horizon for whales breaching nearby. No two expeditions are ever the same, because out here, wildlife encounters are guided by nature, not a script.
