My forever rhetorical vibe check to myself from here on in!

As per the text on this image-
My plan for this year and EVERY one to follow is-
To just Frigging CREATE not CURATE.
Mask drop. Here I am. Take it or leave it.

Art & Design for me is my escape from the circus that is my brain. When I am hyper focused on being creative I feel somewhat peaceful/in a zone.

Unfortunately when you try and make a career out of art you have to do “all the things” that comes with it and with that comes lots of thinking which literally does my head in because I am already an overachiever at that part. To date this has caused me to curate what I share rather than share what I have been creating.

This year something in me has finally clicked. I know I need to share more of the story of me and the meaning behind my art to truly connect and make a real go of having an art career. It’s not that I haven’t been myself, it’s more that I have withheld, due to fear of being perceived.

Ironically or not, the people that inspire me most are the truly authentic individuals who do show up, they share their story and their unique qualities that make them who they are.

I want to one day be that person for someone else so rather than just stare at the Bruce Lee quote I have on my body this year I am going to follow it-
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

I also have a big step underway behind the scenes on a personal level and I feel this is going to assist my mindset greatly and inform my creativity going forward.
I will update this post with the details at a later date but for now this is a start……

UPDATE- I was officially diagnosed with Combined ADHD & Autism on the 15th January 2026. by @antayjoart

Throwback to one of my fave artworks EVER!
(Mixed media- Paint, my own designs printed onto fabric then cut & collaged plus thread on canvas.)

This was a bit of an experiment for an Art competition that the Iconic Ken Done was a judge for and is my quirky version of @kendonegallery and my faves @opallindaoz & @jennykeeoz whom I feature in my artwork regularly as they are such an inspiration.

I didn’t win…( I never enter to win per se)I enter so that I can challenge myself and if I ever win an award it is icing on the cake.

The last few years I have entered Mixed Media textile type works in basically every exhibition competition without even realising it.

I am so looking forward to creating more and more like this and finally getting around to turning some of my Mixed media work into fabric designs. (I design digitally right now and do license these designs but hope to collaborate with brands in the future using my traditional works as a basis as well.)

This one is my entry into the @slowdownstudio #slowdownartcomp2026

It was originally an approx a5 mixed media artwork on paper that I did earlier in the year called “Duality”

I reworked it colour wise and as a completely hand drawn digital piece this time round. (The other was a paint pens and fabric mixed media piece. See image 3 for the original.)

Like everyone entering I would love to see my art on a rug one day. Can you imagine this one taking up space in your lounge room? I can! by @antayjoart

A little fun @thetuesdaycollective challenge this week inspired by the iconic @dianarikasari @bydianarikasari so of course I blocked out some time to take part!

This one is acrylic paint, paint pens and it wouldn’t be complete without lots of little hand stitches on high gsm paper to add to the upcycle vibe. by @antayjoart

DIY Fashion…..

I have spoken about doing a blog for years now to note down all the products I have tried and tested and the easy ways you can create your own OOAK fashion pieces.

Unfortunately life always gets in the way and there are other things I have focused on more intensely.

I pinky promise though, that in the new year I will create a little blog that notes the paints I use to paint on shoes, the best surfaces, the glue I swear by for collaging shoes and more as well as the best fabric types for this purpose. (Plus lots more!)

I have had some ups and downs trying to find the best products that work for me and being someone that thinks A LOT I always want to be using products that are as non toxic as possible so it has been a journey.

So if this sounds of interest to you give this reel a save so that you can pop back next year and see if I followed through 😉 (I even left a little motivator for myself at the end of this vid!!)

P.S. All fabrics used in this one are my own surface designs. Link in bio to my fabrics currently available. by @antayjoart

NEWS: My solo which was to open next month is no longer proceeding.

The one I took years to commit to applying for because the thought of a solo scared the hell out of me and realistically still does but with the support of my partner & kids I was going to manage because I could pick the opening hours, it was a casual setting close to home, I wouldn’t be inundated with people & it was only for a few hours each weekend for a month. I had control of all of this which is vital for me being neurodivergent.

It was ultimately my choice in the end to not proceed but one I felt forced to make because I want to stay true to myself and the body of work I invested all my time into over the past few years, especially as this was to be my first. It was all about fashion & feelings, so when I felt like my artistic vision & mixed media approach was in question, (just over one month out) it was not something I could get past mentally.

I hold no harsh feelings for how things have ended up but it has put me off solo exhibitions as an avenue, though I will find alternative ways to share some of the artwork in other ways in the not so distant future.

I did actually stop in my tracks after this occurred and now have quite a few half completed pieces that were for the exhibition which I will return to when the time is right or rework them for other projects.

The reason i find myself in this position right now is that my artwork and the meaning behind it, the why i create the way I do across various mediums & the interconnectedness of it all is very important to me.

Fashion is a regular focus of my work in the literal sense of depicting it to display on walls, for use on clothing & accessories in the form of designing for fabric and licensing purposes and at times OOAK DIY.

It has been a way for me from a young age to control how the world saw or didn’t see me. A choice I could make while trying to navigate who I was when I was in a battle with myself. Fashion was affirming & empowering for me. You know the whole look good, feel good thing…..well at least some of the time.

NOTE- Please see the second image for the rest of my thoughts on this in the second caption.

When you subscribe to @homespunmagazine purely based on the fact that your two faves @opallindaoz @jennykeeoz are gracing the cover/featured. 😉

I find them very inspirational & authentic and as someone who doesn’t follow trends and tries to stay true to my artistic vibe regardless I have much admiration for them which is why I quiet often come back to depicting them in my work.

I am taking some time out today to have a read of this issue and the next and do non arty things before I continue on with my goals artistically which have taken a turn the last few days as plans I had made have changed up. (I actually have a half started 100 x 100 cm canvas of these two ladies awaiting the final paint additions before I can start fabric collaging and possibly stitching elements too.) by @antayjoart

To say I am shocked these designs of mine are yet to sell one metre to a party other than myself is an understatement 😂😂

These along with a number of other similar ones are available through @clothcutsco or available to licence directly from me.

I am using the fabric that I purchased over the next few days in the form of collage by incorporating textile elements into one of my large scale paintings. (For exhibition)

I am loving using a mixed media approach all stemming from my own creative elements from start to finish. by @antayjoart

I am currently trying to curate artwork for my exhibition, to work out how many more pieces I need to complete. (Send help! 😂😂)

In the process I came across these little ladies I started for the “100 day project” but did not finish.

The project is not a waste though, because I plan to turn these into a new fabric design next year.

Can you imagine a statement shirt with these fashionistas all over it?

I can! 😍 by @antayjoart

Current state:

Stitching away on a little fashionable centrepiece for my exhibition which will be draped over a dressmaker mannequin featuring the title of my exhibition-
“FASHION & FEELINGS”
