The Boundary of Southern Africa.

There is no single agreed definition of Southern Africa. The definition changes depending on the context.

For example,

The United Nations geoscheme lists only five countries as Southern Africa. These are 👇

▪️ South Africa
▪️ Namibia
▪️ Botswana
▪️ Lesotho
▪️ Eswatini

By this definition alone, you can see that even Zimbabwe is not part of Southern Africa.

💥 However, this definition is used for data and statistical purposes only, not IDENTITY.

So let's talk about identity:

In this context, identity can be understood in two ways:
▪️political identity and ▪️geographical identity

Interms of political identity, Southern Africa refers to the SADC region, which includes 16 countries, namely:

▪️ Angola
▪️ Botswana
▪️ Comoros
▪️ DRC
▪️ Eswatini
▪️ Lesotho
▪️ Madagascar
▪️ Malawi
▪️ Mauritius
▪️ Mozambique
▪️ Namibia
▪️ Seychelles
▪️ South Africa
▪️ Tanzania
▪️ Zambia
▪️ Zimbabwe

Interms of geographical identity, Southern Africa is often defined as a region containing 10 countries namely :

▪️ Angola
▪️ Botswana
▪️ Zimbabwe
▪️ Zambia
▪️ Eswatini
▪️ Lesotho
▪️ South Africa
▪️ Malawi
▪️ Mozambique
▪️ Namibia

As you can see, the above list excludes Tanzania, the DRC, and the island nations. This means these countries are not considered part of Southern Africa under this particular geographic definition.

It's worth mentioning that Tanzania and DRC also belong to the East African regional grouping (EAC). That means they have a dual membership.

The bottom line is 👇
There is no universally agreed definition of Southern Africa. It depends on context.

But the SADC definition is the most widely used for political purposes. by @anthony_gprs_

Judge, Magistrate, Justice Stop confusing them They are not the same

Many people think “judge,” “magistrate,” and “justice” mean the same thing. They don’t.
These titles carry different powers, different courts, and different levels of authority.

🥢 A Magistrate is the lowest of the three.
🥢 A Judge is higher.
🥢 A Justice sits at the top.
That’s the hierarchy.

Now the functions:
A MAGISTRATE handles the smaller cases. Think of them as the court for:
– Minor criminal offences
– Simple assaults
– Stealing cases
– Small civil disputes
– Traffic offences
– First-level criminal trials

They cannot sentence people to life imprisonment.
They cannot handle murder.
Their power is limited by law.
They are addressed as Your Worship.

A JUDGE sits in the High Court. This is where serious matters go. A judge handles:
– Murder
– Rape
– Armed robbery (depending on jurisdiction)
– Big civil cases
– Fundamental rights cases
– Election petitions (sometimes)
– Appeals from Magistrate Courts
Their judgments carry more weight because the High Court has wider powers.
They are addressed as My Lord or Your Lordship.

A JUSTICE is even higher than a judge. Justices sit at:
– Court of Appeal
– Supreme Court
These are the courts that review decisions from lower courts.
A Justice does not conduct everyday trials like a magistrate or high court judge.
They handle appeals, constitutional issues, government matters, and major national disputes.
Their words can change the law of the entire country. They are also addressed as My lord or Your lordshp.

In Simple Form:
🥢 Magistrate → small cases
🥢 Judge → serious cases
🥢 Justice → appeals and national-level matters

Different courts.
Different powers.
Different responsibilities. by @anthony_gprs_
