Our co-founders Professor Stephen W. Porges and @anthonygorry want to explore whether neuroscience, music, technology and design could help create a more human experience at the end of life.

Not by changing the outcome. By changing how it feels.

Their proposed @sxsw 2027 fireside chat - The Last Human Experience: Can We Design a Better Ending? - is now open for community voting.

If you think this is a conversation the world should be having, please vote and share.

☝🏼 Link in bio. How to vote:

1) Click the link
2) Create a free PanelPicker account (or log in if you already have one)
3) Find our session page, and click the heart to cast your vote

Voting closes this Sunday, August 23.

Thanks for your help in bringing this important discussion to life.

UNLEASHING THE SCIENTIFIC POWER OF SOUND

Our first peer-reviewed study has been published in Frontiers in Psychiatry @frontiersin_ .

Conducted in collaboration with researchers at the University of Florida College of Medicine @ufmedicine, the study represents the first published scientific evaluation of Sonic Augmentation Technology™ (SAT).

The study found significant improvements in participants' biobehavioral state following a single SAT session, with larger improvements observed in those experiencing higher levels of autonomic reactivity, anxiety and depression.

It's an important milestone in our mission to unleash the scientific power of sound and build an evidence base for the effects of SAT on measures associated with autonomic nervous system function.

What If Sound Could Help Create the Conditions for Safety?

Next week, our co-founders Professor Stephen W. Porges and @anthonygorry will be in conversation at the 37th Annual Boston Trauma Conference, hosted by the @traumaresearchfoundation and @bessel_van der Kolk.

Together, they'll explore the emerging science behind Sonocea, connecting structured acoustic signalling, autonomic regulation, trauma-informed care and human connection.

Anthony will also share how his own rehabilitation journey in a stroke ward helped inspire the development of our innovative Sonic Augmentation Technology.

The session will look at how carefully engineered acoustic environments may support nervous-system regulation - opening new possibilities at the intersection of neuroscience, health, and sound.

📍 Boston, USA
🗓 27–30 May 2026

Join in person or online. Further information and tickets via the link below.

🎹 The last time I came to Los Angeles, I was making records.

Studios.
Synths.
Late nights.
Speakers turned all the way up.

I was working with Spike Stent, Gwen Stefani and No Doubt - chasing sounds, emotion and instinct inside studio rooms that felt creatively alive.

Back then, I thought the magic was in the music✨

Now I think it was also in the environment. The room changed people. The energy in a space could make people more open. More connected. More creative. Less guarded. More instinctive.

I just didn’t have the language for it yet.

14 years later, I’m returning to LA with a very different perspective.

Through Sonocea and our work in nervous system regulation, I’ve become fascinated by a new question:

What if media art, sound, technology and science could help people feel better - physiologically, emotionally and socially?

Not as entertainment.
Not as distraction.
But as part of how environments are designed.

Really excited to now be collaborating with @jasonbrugesstudio at Greater Together LA 2026.

Feels like a full circle moment.

From records to regulation.
From studio instinct to physiological design.

Welcome to the Sonic Revolution.

SXSW has a way of bringing very different ideas into the same space - and sometimes that’s where things start to connect.

A few things from this year have stayed with me.

🔥A talk on communicating with whales - and how much we still don’t understand complex systems.

🔥A session on antidepressants that raised difficult questions about how we support people.

🔥An XR experience exploring dementia that felt deeply human.

🔥And a night of live country music that reminded me how powerful simple, unfiltered experiences can be.

Different domains, but a common thread.

The future doesn’t need more complexity for its own sake. It needs approaches that are more human, more scalable, and that work with us - not against us.

I’ve pulled a few more thoughts together in the full piece.

🏉 The Six Nations exposed the brutality of the modern rugby calendar.

This isn’t just about big hits 💥 or visible injuries.

It’s the accumulation.
The repeated load.
The expectation to perform, recover, and go again - without fully resetting the system underneath it all.

Elite rugby has never been more demanding.
But the way we think about recovery hasn’t kept pace.

⌚️ We track performance relentlessly.
Yet the nervous system - the system that drives it - is still largely invisible.

And that’s where the real cost sits.

Healthcare treats.
Sport competes.
Work pushes.

But performance in all three ultimately depends on autonomic nervous system regulation.

Across these environments we measure performance and increasingly monitor recovery.

Yet the ability to support regulation under pressure is rarely built into systems.

At Sonocea, we’re exploring how sound-based technology can help support nervous system regulation at scale.

We’re discussing this at @SXSW Austin this week.

Come find @anthonygorry & @ryanschmaltz at @UK House.

Missed the destination, but not the moment.

For the second time in a year, I boarded a British Airways flight across the Atlantic… only to turn back mid-journey due to an electrical issue. Eight hours in the air, and back where we started.

Not exactly the plan, and yes, it means missing day one of SXSW.

But sometimes the unexpected creates its own kind of space.

What could have been a deeply frustrating day turned into something strangely valuable. I met new people on the flight, including others also heading to SXSW, and ended up having one of the most restful days I have had in a long time. A rare pause. Time to reset. Time to listen. Time spent with new Sonocea® Sessions in my ears and no option but to surrender to the delay.

There is something in that.

We spend so much of life trying to push forward, force progress, and stay on schedule. But sometimes the nervous system has other ideas.

So, a false start — but not a wasted one.

Back to Heathrow tomorrow.
Austin, Texas — take two.
SXSW, I am still on my way. by @anthonygorry
