Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Boys season 5, episode 1 and 2.
A major character returns as Homelander continues to spiral in the new trailer for The Boys.

The Boys has officially returned with a bang, but not everyone can make it out alive. Prime Video's satirical take on superheroes has taken the world by storm. Season 5 has already delivered a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of 98%, and fans are clamoring for even more from their favorite and not-so-favorite antiheroes.

The Boys' fifth and final season debuted last week with an action-packed two-part premiere that saw original character A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) meet his fate at the hands of Homelander as Hughie, MM, and Frenchie escape from their prison camp with the help of Butcher, Starlight, and Kimiko. Soldier Boy also returned as Butcher put his plan in motion to test out the virus that could potentially kill Homelander, as well as all other Supes.

Now, Prime Video has released the trailer for season 5's third episode. Check it out below:

In the teaser, the origins of V will be revealed, as Giancarlo Esposito's character, Stan Edgar, returns to help the team find a way to destroy Homelander once and for all. However, Homelander's speech ending with "a reckoning is coming," makes it clear that the villain of all villains will not be holding back.

At the end of episode 2, after Hughie, Frenchie, and MM delivered the supe-killing virus, a shocking twist was shown as Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles) arose despite being seemingly dead. It's clear the virus is unable to get him due to the type of compound V he has, which makes sense as to why Stan Edgar's return is vital for the team to figure out how to destroy the major players.

It has also been revealed that Ackles will be reunited with former Supernatural co-stars, including Jared Padalecki, who will be playing the role of Mister Marathon. In the original comics, Mister Marathon was killed by Homelander, so the change from the original comics has yet to be revealed as to why it was made, but the Supernatural reunion has fans already eager to see it play out.

The Boys season 5 will be available to watch on Prime Video.

Somewhere on Viltrum, this is considered good parenting.

‘Invincible’ Goes Home Again
Season 4 episode “Give Us a Moment” hearkens back to the series’ greatest hits and twists

Amazon Prime Video/Ringer illustration

After a one-year layoff, Invincible returned for its fourth season in mid-March with a three-episode premiere. On the heels of an explosive Season 3 finale in which Mark battled his most fearsome foe yet, Conquest, Season 4 began by reestablishing Mark’s unrelenting superhero duties and his emerging willingness to use lethal force in combat. As Mark grappled with his evolving moral code, Invincible also laid the foundation for the war between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrum Empire.

Omni-Man and Allen the Alien traveled across the far reaches of space to gather weapons to use against the Viltrumites, and the series developed the emotional stakes of the imminent conflict, partly by including a series of flashbacks that recounted Nolan’s life on Viltrum and the pandemic that nearly extinguished his kind. There were a lot of moving parts—too many, at times—but they mostly served as necessary setup as the series worked toward the culminating event of its first four seasons.

Make-A-Wish but the wish is better media training.

New details continue to emerge regarding Sadie Sink's participation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previously, several insiders, citing information from the later stages of production, confirmed rumors that the actress is playing the role of Jean Grey in the movie "Spider-Man: A New Day."

There is no official confirmation of this information. However, insider MyTimeToShineHello reported that Sink has signed a contract to participate in five Marvel projects, including possible appearances in TV series.

The new data indirectly indicates the actress's significant role in the future of the cinematic universe. It was previously reported that the seventh phase of Marvel will focus on the theme of mutants. In this case, Jean Grey may occupy an important place in the overall story if the information about Sink's role is confirmed.

The premiere of "Spider-Man: A New Day" will take place on July 31, 2026. It is possible that Marvel will keep the actress's role a secret until the release of the film.

God of War Laufey is burning the series’ rulebook and sending it to the afterlife… literally. Faye, wife of Kratos, mother to Atreus, is the protagonist in the latest game from Santa Monica Studio, and the 20 minutes of footage that just dropped as part of State of Play is one hell of an introduction to our new queen of carnage, facing off against two gods of war, forming an alliance with a cosmic cube, and finding herself stuck in a fever dream of a new world.

More like this
God Of War Laufey Reveal
God Of War Laufey Reveal
"We’ll always tell stories about Kratos, but I think for us, it was just a chance to talk about somebody who was so pivotal to the beginning,” says Ariel Lawrence, Game Director on God of War Laufey. “To get to know them and push beyond into this new world and give us some place to be surprised and see how things connect. So for us, it's not a departure; it's more of an expansion."

"Faye left an incredible impression on Kratos and influences how he goes about his life now," says Lawrence.

Where in the worlds
Santa Monica Studio’s new project isn’t a prequel, as rumored, and actually starts the moment that Faye’s body is burnt on the funeral pyre at the beginning of 2018’s God of War. This transports her to a land called the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. It’s definitely not the Elysium fields of Valhalla, but a nightmarish otherworld with killer flowers and masked skeletons, where creatures are being rounded up in cages. There are bonfires of corpses and an ominous gateway hanging in the sky. It's far from a friendly place, as Santa Monica Studio’s Head of Creative, Cory Barlog, is more than happy to divulge.

"They're all assholes,” he says. “Literally every god that exists in all of the mythologies has this really terrible relationship with power and how they abuse all of it. When you put all those people – like a bunch of billionaires on an island – they think they're gonna have a happy life. No, they're all going to fight each other, they're all going to be in this strange sense of conflict because they're locked in a prison." by @anthum.ai

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows
As Americans stew over the looming risk of job-stealing AI and data centers in their back yards, the feds are raising the alarm about a new category of threat, documents obtained by WIRED show.

In the wake of attacks on CEOs, a nationwide protest movement targeting data centers, and increasing concerns about AI job replacement, federal intelligence agencies and domestic law enforcement are circulating reports with a new domestic target in mind: anti-technology extremists.

More than 1,000 pages of unpublished reports from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, and fusion centers obtained by WIRED show a national shift taking place to surveil this new and worryingly broad category of people and activities deemed an emerging threat.

This new effort follows President Donald Trump's National Security Presidential Memo 7, which instructs the Department of Justice to target anyone holding “anti-American,” “anti-Christian,” and "anti-capitalism” beliefs. Earlier this month, Trump's counterterrorism czar, Sebastian Gorka, released a public counterterrorism strategy claiming that left-wing extremists are one of the three top counterterrorism priorities facing the United States. by @anthum.ai

Cristian Mungiu‘s Fjord, the Romanian director’s English-language debut starring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan as Romanian religious parents who relocate to a small Norwegian village and find themselves accused of child abuse, has won the Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

At the press conference right after the ceremony, South Korean director Park Chan-wook, head of the 2026 competition jury, joked he didn’t want to give the Palme d’Or to anyone, “because it’s an award that I myself have never gotten.” Then, after a long pause, and referencing his last film, he landed the punch line. “But I had No Other Choice.”

Andreï Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur, a reworking of Chabrol’s The Unfaithful Wife as an immaculate domestic thriller set against contemporary Russia, took Cannes’ runner-up prize, the Grand Prix. The film follows an executive who is required to sign over his employees to be cannon fodder for the Russian war effort in Ukraine. At the same time, he suspects his wife may be having an affair.

Zvyaginstev used his acceptance speech to call out Russian President Vladimir Putin and his war. “For millions of people, contact with art right now is about only one thing: That finally, the senseless killing of people would stop. And the only person who can stop this meat grinder is you, Mr. President of the Russian Federation. Put an end to this slaughter. The whole world is waiting for this.”

With the win, Mungiu joins Cannes’ elite two-timer club, following his 2007 victory with 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, his searing account of illegal abortion in Communist-era Romania.

For those keeping score, this marks the seventh year running that Neon has successfully picked the Palme winner. Tom Quinn’s indie outfit snatched up Fjord for domestic release ahead of this year’s festival. by @anthum.ai

What's heavier?

Ex-Google engineer Cecilia Shen cofounded Utopai to crack the code on long-form AI-generated content. And thanks to an investment from NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, the Under 30 alum is now building a billion-dollar studio.
Inyears past, when a great athlete retired, they typically told their story through a ghost-written memoir or perhaps even a biopic. But Hall of Fame basketball player Carmelo Anthony opted instead for the storytelling medium of the moment, striking a partnership with Utopai Studios, the Silicon Valley-based startup specializing in AI movies and TV shows. The 41-year-old NBA legend will produce AI-generated video content about his life and other sports stories through his Creative 7 Productions label. Anthony’s investment into Utopai—which both sides declined to share the size of, but Forbes estimates around $5 million—was at a staggering $1 billion valuation.

It’s an astronomical amount for a company with revenue that Forbes estimates was less than $50 million in 2025, and has yet to put out a full-length movie or TV show. Still, with projects in the pipeline and strong 2026 projections, the premium price tag announces Utopai as a true competitor in the ongoing Hollywood AI arms race. by @anthum.ai

The film industry is struggling to work out where artificial intelligence fits into the broader scheme of things, and nowhere is this tension more visible than at the Cannes Film Festival. Whilst Seth Rogen makes a passionate case for preserving the human touch, Demi Moore believes it is “a battle that we will lose.”

Moore — the star of A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal, and Disclosure — has urged the industry to find ways of working with AI rather than fighting what she sees as a losing battle. “AI is here,” she said plainly. “And so to fight it is, in a sense, to fight something that we cannot win. To find ways in which we can work with it is a more valuable path to take.” Speaking as a member of the Cannes jury, she was asked at a press conference how AI was affecting the industry, and her response was striking for its pragmatism. “The truth is there really isn’t anything to fear, because what it can never replace is what true art comes from — which is not the physical. It comes from the soul.”

Rogen, meanwhile, has no such equanimity. The actor, in Cannes to promote his animated film Tangles, was unambiguous in his contempt for AI-generated writing. He told Brut that anyone using AI to write a script “shouldn’t be a writer.” “I don’t understand what it’s supposed to do,” he said. “Every time I see a video on Instagram that’s like, ‘Hollywood is cooked,’ what follows is the most stupid drivel I’ve ever seen in my life. If your instinct is to use AI and skip that creative process, you shouldn’t be a writer, because you’re not writing.” He added: “The idea of a tool that makes me write less is not appealing to me, because I like writing.” by @anthum.ai

Never have I felt more out of step with the general perception of a TV show than this final season of The Boys. The complaints are vast and frequent, most comparing it to the final season of Game of Thrones, and indicating the show has fallen off a cliff, completely whiffing the ending of the hit Prime Video series. But there’s a pretty good explanation for why this backlash has festered: The Boys Season 5 is a normal season of television.

By the way, I don’t want to take credit for this stunning revelation. It came during a longer discussion on a recent episode of The Ringer’s The Midnight Boys podcast (no relation). In the midst of a concerned rant about how this season has been nowhere near as close to the best of the show, the host wonders whether showrunner Eric Kripke decided “we’re just gonna give you a regular season of TV until the finale… That is kind of what old network TV was like.” The discussion continues, comparing how Game of Thrones had “way higher highs” which made the lows feel lower; while The Boys has been generally even throughout (which: accurate). But it’s that first off-the-cuff point from the host (who seems more negative on the whole season) that stuck with me.

Because yes, Season 5 of The Boys has been a normal season of television! There’s an expectation given we’re watching superhero media that end of the world stakes and massive battles will be par for the course. It’s all come down to this! Everything changes forever! But funnily enough, that’s exactly what Kripke said they would not be doing before the season started.

In an interview with SFX magazine (via GamesRadar+), Kripke explained that, “There are not full battle scenes because we still don’t have Game of Thrones‘ budget, but there are a lot of very direct confrontations; a lot of the people that you want to see smashing into each other smash into each other. I hope it’s cathartic and emotionally satisfying, but I’m a tiny bit terrified.”

Despite that warning, which Kripke shared before the season even premiered, perhaps at least some of the blowback has been “yeah, right, but where’s the Game of Thrones by @anthum.ai

The Boys have lost one of their own.

At the end of the seventh episode of the fifth and final season of Prime Video’s action-comedy hit, Frenchie (Tomer Capone) sacrificed himself to protect his love, Kimiko Miyashiro (Karen Fukuhara) from the wrath of Homelander (Antony Starr). But Homelander zeroed in on Frenchie instead, who opened a hatch exposing himself to a fatal dose of radiation, and told the evil supe — “I bet you never danced a day in your life.”

We asked creator Eric Kripke about the decision to kill off a character who has been with the show from the very beginning.

“We knew we had to kill off one of The Boys,” Kripke said. “You can’t have a shot at victory unless it costs your heroes something that’s really hard. I always think The Lord of the Rings was so good at that, and Game of Thrones was so good at that. For narrative momentum, your heroes have to pay a steep price — because that’s how it works in the real world.

“So it was going through each character and deciding what was going to be the most heart wrenching,” he continued. “I think we knew early on it was going to be Frenchie. In so many ways, Frenchie and Kimiko are the heart of the show. Despite what killers they are, they’re both so emotionally sweet. We knew this would have real maximum destruction, and I think it had to happen. They would not have a chance of winning if Frenchie doesn’t sacrifice himself.” by @anthum.ai
